External hard drives & Xbox One

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to be sure & I value the opinions here on the board. You can use any current external hard drive  with USB support for use with just a Xbox One & not just the ones branded with the XB1 logo, correct?

My son's machine is almost full & he has 2 or 3 games he's been wanting to play, just no room for them & with this birthday coming up, I thought I'd get him a hard drive.

thx!

I Have been out of the console gaming scene for a while (I mean my last NEW console was a Wii:( ) BUT a quick search found this (mind you it was from 2017):

Are all external hard drives compatible with Xbox?

The Best External Hard Drives for PS4 and Xbox One. Sony's PlayStation 4 has finally received external hard drive support. ... PS4 and Xbox One have very similar requirements for external storage. Drives on both consoles must be USB 3.0compatible and have a storage capacity no smaller than 256GB.Mar 17, 2017

After I posted I browsed big A for some ideas & of course came across the green branded harddrive but also other non branded that had reviews saying they were being used on xboxes & ps4s. Still nice to confirm.

Also does the speed of the drive matter when paired with a xbox one?
