Change in minimum dollar amount for free delivery on Canadian orders.

Or even, if not a warning, a heads up. "Hey, we had to make this change, don't want it to spring up on you unexpectedly when you go to check out." How hard is that?

Especially since the website no longer tells you how much more you need to spend to get free shipping.  It used to be so obvious with both the free shipping threshold and how far you are from it clearly displayed.

Ouch, this hurts.

If it had to happen, it had to happen, but the value and incentive of trying to get the bonus minis has significantly decreased. $75 usd is over $100 cad. That's a fairly big order, and is likely to get hit by C.O.D. Canada Customs charge. This is a big disincentive from ordering direct.

I guess local distributors will be the way to go for me.

There apparently have been some lapsed shipping agreements that have been impacting our ability to meet the free shipping threshold that we were normally able to meet. For the last several months, shipping to Canada has been in the approaching the value of the package.

We're working on getting a more Canada-friendly option in place, but the unfortunate reality is that we had to change the free shipping tier.

For other Canucks wondering, the "new math" is as follows:

If your order is under $85CAD - buy from a Canadian reseller. 401games.ca, boardgames.ca, legendswarehouse.ca or meeplemart.com all have 10 dollar flat shipping meaning they're now cheaper than Reaper.

Between 95CAD and 150CAD - Free ship from Reaper is cheaper but could incur border fees.

Over 150CAD - free ship if you buy from 401games, boardgames.ca or legendwarehouse

Over 200CAD - free ship if you buy from Meeplemart

RAFM is not dead but they take a long time to respond, no shipping updates, and limited selection. The site also hasn't been updated since like 2005.  I've ordered from them recently though so they're not dead.  Also has 10 dollar flat shipping.

Glad to hear, thanks for answering this!  Here's hoping the agreements can be reached sooner than later, as I prefer ordering directly.

My biggest issue is that Mission has a terrible selection (online, supposedly they have a good selection in store), and MeepleMart tends to be out if stick on most minis three quarters of the time.

No freebies thrown in the box either, at least how prior ordering experience has been.

Bit late on the notification there. I get the necessity but it stings.

How is it that The Rest of The World is getting hit less than Canada though? Shipping arrangements south of the border are easier I guess?

Thank you very much for the reply, Kit.  It's nice to have some idea of why it was necessary,

That could be so many different factors it's not even funny.  Bear in mind that once things leave the US, all of these are different postal systems.  US postal systems have agreements and arrangements with other postal systems to carry their mail and, presumably, these arrangements are always subject to change.  So it could be something on Canada Post's end that affects their arrangements with USPS which then filters to the agreement they had with Reaper.  This would, of course, not affect any mail going into other postal networks.  This is also simply speculation on my part, as an illustration of why potentially this could hit one shipping stream but not others, and should not be taken to mean it is what actually happened.  I possess no inside knowledge of how the dark secrets of the mail system are divined.

As a fresh resident of Canada, welcome to hell.  You should expect, at any given time, that you will be robbed blind.  If you are not robbed blind, it has been a very good day.  This has been reality since I started using mail order in 1992.  Reaper's arrangement was an anomaly, not the rule.

I feel for you guys. I live in Australia and we get free shipping at $100 AUD. So yeah, I've never been able to do the 12 Days of Christmas or even really get in on monthly orders. I save up for when the mini of the month is too awesome to miss and/or go in on big orders with other people to meet the minimum. You would think with globalism, it would be easier/cheaper to get things but nope! It sucks!

Are they still polite about it? I'd feel betrayed if they didn't at least pretend to be polite while robbing me.

The lady at the post office has been quite nice so far. I haven't yet been charged extra fees on incoming stuff, including some that probably could have been dinged from what Buglips has said. Will see what happens when my S75 stuff finally shows up; that would be a candidate for it.

Thank you Kit, I appreciate you coming on to let us know what's happening. Please let the others at Reaper know that we can be very understanding about situations, if only we're told up front about what's going on. Having such surprises sprung on us does not help the digestive system.

I understand. It was sprung on me last minute, too.

I hope a Canadian solution is found soon. I just bought the starter painting kit and ordered some extra paint (~$50USD) to meet the free shipping tier. I was hoping to do the same with the layer up painting kit but $75 USD is pretty steep. It's definitely enough to make me change my purchasing decisions.

I can order from Meeplemart but they never have anything in stock and their webstore is garbage.

Just to give you an idea of what shipping to Canada does from the U.S. I was going to send a book to someone in Canada. I figured 10-15 dollars. It would be $39.00 for a single book! It would cost less to send to Europe!
