This is exactly why they should just show us everything....

While that would be very nice, I think their strategy of gradual reveals is more effective. It increases suspense and engagement and keeps interest up. I've backed Kickstarters that have done both ways, and the gradual reveals really do seem to work better.

I took it to mean that they should have finalized miniatures of everything, rather than renders or sketches where the final result won't be guaranteed.

I understand their strategy, but honestly...Im too old for that crap.  I want to see everything and then decide.  They can still have stretch goals and the like.  I just want it all out in the open.  I think they should be hitting people with previews now.

Both really.  It would also seem they need to triple check their renders.

It also makes its easier to budget.  I tell Dwarven Forge the same thing (even though Ive never actually gone into any of their KS except one and it was only a donation as they keep catching me when Im low on fun money.)

The problem is they don’t know how much money they will bring in, and therefore wouldn’t know how many stretch goals to reveal.  If they revealed a bunch whose levels weren’t achieved with pledges, the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the populace would be without limit.

Reaper is very careful about only revealing what they know will be unlocked.

And I agree with OneBoot, the gradual reveal really intensifies the suspense and excitement.  It’s one of my favorite parts of their Kickstarters... seeing what appears next that I can’t live without!  Like unwrapping Christmas presents!

How so?  I didn't get either of those, so I'm wondering what the issues were.

Re: Stoneskull and Fan Favorites:

just personal issues.

Buying stoneskull I fell in love with temple dragon - and I liked  of some of the other figures - like carnivorous plants, a few new kobolds (to add to the horde from KS1)

and the Behir.  Others like the mercenaries ill probably never paint as I just didn't like their look.

so from all the use I have gotten, I paid 50$ for a small dragon. (which I painted as shortly after getting it, a second one is still on my wishlist...

Noy buying Fan Favs - I really wanted the Mammoth, and the Slaads looked cool too, along with the portal. penguins and rhino beetle - I loved using rhino beetles in old D&D games, but im not even sure if they are in 5th ed.  I was trying to go cheap after buying into KDM  so I skipped it both originally, and then again when the pack hit retail for 137$

The stretch goals are calculated ahead of time.  The only thing they really do is change when a stretchgoal gets put up.  They said it themselves, they have been planning whats going to be in Bones 5 for months.  There is always a quick disclaimer that can be slapped on.

You mean like a Dumpster with sliding doors that never actually materialized in Bones 4?

Or an entire kickstarter of Legendary Encounters.....

I meant within the scope of the actual Kickstarter reveals on the official  Kickstarter page.  As far as I know those things were shown/mentioned outside of the Kickstarter proper.

For folks who don’t like the gradual unveils the obvious thing to me to do would be to check in at the kickstarters launch to confirm the end date, then ignore the Kickstarter until then.

That way you’ll see everything that’s been unveiled and what has been shown in physical sculpts, renders, and concept drawings.

I hope they increase the scale of the storm and cloud giants so they fit in line with the official ones from gf9 and wizkids but I'm assuming they won't...

So far only thing I want is the prehistoric croc thing and the 2 giants.

Love to see a demo dragon as one of the larger 12 inch pieces.

The mammoth is funny.  It's like some inadequate stepchild of the forgeworld chaos mammoth... Very similar design.

I'm a fan of the gradual reveals strategy too.

And I have to say that the way it was managed during Bones 4 was really impressive. Other forum members might be able to correct me, but I seem to remember that the stretch goals were cleverly juggled so that a new one was reached nearly every day, even during the "slow bit" in the middle. This certainly kept my attention and enjoyment at fever pitch. Timing things so that the kickstarter commenced just as I got one pay-check and finished just as I got another was also a clever move.

I personally prefer that some are shown, and then if it grows, to showcase more afterwards.  So I guess, in a way, I agree with the gradual reveal.

Just so long as it isn't something that gets royally juggled twice, and then half the things people were working towards are outright removed from the Kickstarter despite having been one of the initial goals when it launched.

No, I'm not bitter about the way the CAV one went, just wary now, since I really was looking forward to the buggies and planes.

Edit: oh right and watching from the sidelines how some of the changes from concept to reality stirred things up a fair bit.  And how some claims didn't match (will be unassembled!... Comes assembled).

Sure hoping for some minotaurs, or happiest fox would be an anubian jackal the height of the Minotaur Demon Lord :p
