Resurrecting the Old School Undead

Managed to pry myself out of Skyrim to make some more progress...

Horrible pic, but the command group had Steel Legion Drab on their bases and Dirty Bone applied.

Batch 3 is fully puttied and undercoated...

Batch 2 had a slathering in both Brown and Black Washes, a tribute to not having enough coffee in my system before picking up the brush. Now to get back to finishing the first batch.

As well as the shields...

For the wood I tried a 1:1 mix of Rotting Wood and Shadowed Stone. This had a bit more of a greenish tint than I expected so I knocked it down a bit with thinned Brown Wash. Metal is Blackened Steel.

Which is giving a nice "old" wood look, now to figure out if mixing in Stone Grey or Ancient Bark is the way to go for the highlight...

Some more progress...

100_2102.JPG.3d900480a28d1faa89d4474ba3384c39.JPG

First batch had their weapons and shield rims doused in P3 Armor Wash then some Orange Brown dry brushed on for some corrosion. Two coats of Dragon Red on their shields.

Always nice to see the Undead being painted.

Between your efforts and mine, we seem to be bringing a wave of Undeath over the WIP section...MWAHAHAHA!!

(Or at least a wave of Gothic Horror, seeing as how you've begun bringing in Witch Hunters...)

Started the free hand on the shields, decided to continue with the Bathory coat of arms. Outlined first in Pure Black, then Dirty Bone. Next will be a layer of Graveyard Bone, and a bit of Red Gore on the background.

As usual these projects get out of hand and more and more is added.

Truth! An army is never really finished. Fortunately with this one being straight up nostalgia, repainting older stuff I already have, I've been able to mostly resist the urge to track down addition stuff for it until the originals are done. Although seeing your ruined church window has me giving serious consideration to getting the Armorcast Ruined Cathedral once the stimulus check gets here. Back in the day, it was one of the scenery bits I wanted to add on but couldn't afford.

First batch is done! A combination of thinned Black and Brown Washes over the shields, Thinned Brown Wash on the weapons, and flocking. They're currently drying from the spray sealer...

and the thinned Brown Wash was also applied to the second batch.

I never play the games.

But I like to create armies and stories.

Of course a story will take a turn, I spot a nice mini and ....another faction or unit enters the fray.

The Church piece is a 3D print I made from Printed Obsession.

Purchasing a printer and resin is expensive, but after that...a file on sale for about 2 euro/ 2 dollar..

Currently printing more stuff for the project after this one I will stop for a while and start painting again.

I highly doubt any of my armies will see actual use, but it's nice to dream. As to 3D printing, the danger there is that once I figured out the Omnissiah's Mysteries of getting them to function, I'd go all out and set up a production line of them. As it stands, I'm already having issues regarding display space.

Batch 2 after the Graveyard Bone highlight...

100_2110.JPG.3fa28e7208ccd317491ceaa6147242b6.JPG

and the Sepia Wash tint. Had to reglue the shield arm for the one in the back left corner...

So I returned to the mausoleum. Got the headstones down along with some flock mix and leaves. Went over this section with the spray primer, testing to see how any applications it will take to keep the leaves down.

Pushed further with the flocking. The first layer of sealer got the leaves to hold fairly well, so additional layers should strengthen that as well...

100_2113.JPG.ed39e4243ac4bae0a23824711e206820.JPG

My original idea was to have the leaves covering more of the sides, and I'm wishing I'd gone with a more gradual slope, but it's coming along more or less as I envisioned. One thing I didn't count on was that even after going for a trip in the blender, the leaves came out as much larger than I thought they would. There's one tree remaining to be pinned into place and have it's roots added and the tree to the left of the mausoleum still needs final painting. After that I'll continue the flocking and call it done.

If you want smaller leaves, you could use dryed tea (from a tea bag) instead.

I like the vertical sides with roots sticking out. You could add a skull, a few bones or some gold. Looking like more have been buried there, maybe with treasures..

I'll have to look into the tea idea. Somewhere in my notes I have a sketch of a possible lower level for this that includes a crumbling crypt, I need to dig that out...
