Catalyst Game Labs: BattleTech Clan Invasion box set

Recommended Posts

I signed up for the $50 set, will add more later I'm sure. I've been with Battletech through hard times before, so I will try again. At least I don't have to fight to glue the Timber Wolf's legs together!

I pledged at $150.  I might back off later but we'll see what else we'll get from the addons.

I like the $40 add-on of the minis from the new boxed sets.

30 minutes in, already funded, and already funded past the listed stretch goals.

I'm surprised by how quickly it's funded.  I'm pretty sure Bones 4 put this to shame but still...  Over $150k and the first hour isn't even over yet.

Anyway, the project is up. The price looks like basically retail. and the inclusion of random blind box mechs does not make me happy. I think this is a wait and see if it materializes at retail for me.

Yeah, I don't know quite what they are thinking on the blind draw box, except maybe "Hey, here's a way to dump spare stock at the end".

The prices do look like retail prices, and they are sticking to their Catalyst guns of "no announced dates", which suggests that this KS will deliver "whenever". (I get that manufacturing is complicated, but they are already at double their first set of stretch goal funding levels. It does not seem likely that the balance of product will ship any time close to March of 2020.)

I remain tempted, but I am going to wait and see a little before deciding what to do. Most of the sculpts look really nice, although I am not much of a fan of the stubby new Mat Cat / Timber Wolf.

I'm debating if I'll be able to go in on this.  It's fighting against an impending bill for CAV shipping fees, my desire to get into two new game systems (this would be a third), and the desire for a new desk.

But.... Mechs at the same time... Tough call.

if you want to get into battle tech this is probably not a great place to start. you'd be better off with the starter box, since this is all the weard 3050+ equipment which is fun but adds several extra layers of complexity to the rules.

By adding it in I can get A Game of Armoured Combat for about $15 CAD cheaper than I could at a local gaming store...

...But the really big thing for me is that I'm not a fan of giving money to companies that start up Kickstarters while they still have several others not yet filled.  So that's something I have to keep in mind, doubly so with all the reports about Canading backers (and the rest of the world) still waiting on stuff from previous Kickstarters, and the whole he said she said Sibling argument that seems to be going on for previous ones.

As for BattleTech, I've always preferred clans, as they're what actually interest me in the fluff, oddly enough.  Sure, Inner Sphere is neat and all but with 4th edition from the Fasa days I still hold my 3050 Source book close to my heart...

Either way, in the end it's all going to wind up being whether there's enough cash to get in with the things I'm contemplating, and what the actual fulfillment times would be....

... And that's even tougher, since I just got the WealthSimple Trade TFSA account invite, and I've been bugging them for months about that...

If you lived about half a continent closer, it seems like there are several games we should play together.

I'm not convinced any of the miniatures in the Clan Invasion boxed set will be available outside of that set in the near future.

$6 per mini doesn't seem too bad to me:

  • CAV minis cost $5-$7.
  • The cheapest metal mini from IWM for any of the plastic minis purchasable through this KS is $9.95, for the Commando COM-2D (20-865).

The minis in the Lance Packs and Star Packs come out to $5 each.  If you get the addon set of minis from the current generation of boxed sets, it's $4/mini.

oh! If you still have the fasa printing, just use that! the game has barely changed except for adding more weird stuff further along the time line.

Indeed!  Some it's interest but I'll be buying in to give a try, while others...  Yeah, always was one for BattleTech - to the point I regularly corrected people that it wasn't called MechWarrior, that's what the pilots were called... The universe was BattleTech (was especially vocal when MW4:Mercs came out and it happened all over again)

Glad to hear the old orange box still holds its worth for things... Including the books.  Wonder if I bought the record sheets too, I'll have to go digging now...

Right now it's just a Notify Me page.
Not sure when it goes Live, but it's set to let me know.

      Story
Depending on the amount of orders received for each project, delivery dates might vary. The initial shipment dates indicated are not final, and even though we're committed to giving all our customers the best service we can, sometimes the amount of orders received might make the final shipment date vary compared to our initial estimates. Please keep this possibility in mind before placing your order.
Regarding both the bundles and the stretch goals described above, no swaps of model of any kind are allowed. Therefore, please don’t ask us to swap any stretch goal with other add-ons or any perk models with other miniatures, because that cannot be done.
We created something for those who like to not take themselves too seriously, for those who would like to relax while painting - with less details, but by no means not enough of them - for those who love their minis with a side dose of cuteness overload and, finally, for those who might have children to introduce to miniature gaming, by giving all of these people something that players will love (or hate, as the case may be) no matter their age!
Wait a minute… delivery estimated after only two week after the campaign ends? A Greebo campaign?!
Oh yes, and here’s why: because we’ve started production already! We’re convinced that we can reach the campaign goal, at the least, and that’s why we started the manufacturing process of everything. Therefore, the second you complete your Pledge Manager (let us remind all of you, if you don’t complete it, there will be no shipment, so do it!) your package will be processed and sent, just like that.
We want to open and close this campaign in record time, and we’re confident that we can do it!

Kobolds Vs. Goblins is a game designed, tested, built and played by my son Max and me (You saw him in the video).  The concept was something we came up with for a contest on The Game Crafter using roll & write mechanics.  What we ended up making was a fast and fun game that can be played by people of any age.  It's quick and easy to learn and setup is as easy as opening the box.
Max and I decided that people shouldn't be forced to buy our game just to play it.  So, you are free to download the full color print and play version of the game using this link.   FREE PRINT AND PLAY  (including solo mode) You'll need 6 normal D6 dice and something to mark the paper.  (For prototyping, we used clear cubes, but pencil with eraser will work also)

I'll admit... I have no idea how those of you who share KS from others include all the details and fancy stuff. I clearly didn't do this correctly. Munchkin Metropolis traditionally does woodcrafting, and I've been very satisfied with the quality and production time that's come from my prior interactions with him. Figured I'd try and get the word out about his current KS, which he developed with his son.

      A message from Secret Weapon:

      Big news time everyone!
As many of our pledgers know, we need to adjust the Kickstarter - On the positive, we have a good amount of backers and we know that MANY of you are waiting to up your pledges. We have had a really positive response to the product itself, and lots of interest on the customer and retail side. We deeply appreciate this and your support.
BUT - we have a good amount of backers who are opting to wait on their $1 pledge. This is entirely our fault. We caused this when we locked our core offering behind stretch goals. There is no single item that is core. ALL the options are core. We made it so that many of you had to wait around to buy what you already knew they wanted.
That's a big boo boo, but it was made with the best of intentions. The system was set up so that there was no mandatory amount, and you added what you wanted and nothing more. We thought that this was better for the customer, but it quickly became obvious the vast majority of backers want jump-in points at set amounts like a usual KS... and weren't entirely sure about a pledge manager that was open during the campaign.
So, what are we going to do to fix this for you?
We are going to close the campaign, and relaunch it next week. That sucks and it's embarrassing. But ultimately everything else that happens is great for EVERYONE, because this is what happens next:
1.) ALL themes will be shown and unlocked right off the bat. If you want Urban Streets or Infinity, you just go get it, no hoops or delays to choosing what you want. You also know exactly what is on offer.
2.) There will be pledge levels: $50(+), $100(+) and $200(+). The 100 dollar + level will include a set of 3 weathering pigments (really really good ones too - Burning Sands, Dark Earth, and Rust Orange), and the 200 dollar + level will be the pigment set, and a set of 3 genuinely awesome paints. Secret Weapon's Rubber Highlight, Rubber and Tire Black, our most popular colors! At the end of the campaign you will use the Pledge Manager, as usual, to make whatever specific choices you want based on your KS pledge. The Pledge Manger will be available during the campaign for those that would like help figuring out a total pledge level, but that is optional, and you can wait until the end of the campaign to sign up.
3.) Each of the $50(+), $100(+) and $200(+) pledge levels will have 3 shipping zone options
      Americas, Europe (NOT UK)
      AU, NZ, Asia, Pacific
      United Kingdom (NOT Europe)
4.) Any extra themes that are developed during the course of the KS will be added immediately, no stretch, we just give you the option as soon as it is available.
There will be 17 themes live at the time of launch, which doesn't count the licensed product from Corvus Belli and CMON Zombiecide.
