Jasper_the_2nd
As a BattleTech newbie (not sure how I missed out on it, likely our limited TV channels back then...growing up I got Battle of the Planets, Voltron and Robotech and that's about it) I've always found the lore and background fairly intimidating when I've looked at it in the past. So if they keep things a little simple for a while I'm ok with that I did pick up the beginners box (as my new LFGS had that in stock) to check out the figs as much as anything, and I've asked them to bring in the bigger box. That will give me a good feel for their existing stuff and hopefully I can get through the rules....and maybe even play, if there are other locals buying.....
klarg1
Hopefully, the new boxed sets provide an accessible entry point for new players. I really hope you find it usable and fun. I am, unfortunately, totally unqualified to judge.

Quality ain't fantastic, but.. most of it is there. I was rather amused to find that whole sequence laid out in a scenario book later on. Chase down a copy of the Blood of Kerensky trilogy; that'll tell you anything you never needed to know about the time frame, and IIRC, it's easy to find now. FFS. I was going to say something clever about them having hit a million yesterday, and then the cat stepped on the keyboard and things went awry. Corsair
Okay, one of the great advantages of BT is that the basic rules have not changed since beginning. I am proud that I was a member of the demo team for many years and even have helped write a couple of the new rules [Hull down and controlled, deliberate skids] Once you get the basic rules, all you have to do is keep hit location and damage tables handy. The Griffin and Wolverine are two excellent mechs so get familiar with them. It doesn't matter what era you are running they have variants that can hold their own in any fight.

Humans spread out across the galaxy with FTL ships. The settled areas founded a central government of questionable design The Star League. The leader of which got assassinated. Things turned into a messy civil war. the civil war became a permanent break up into a bunch of warring states. Comstar (the interstellar phone company) declared neutrality and continued to operate a monopoly on FTL communications and became a weird cyborg cult. A large force of the army went into self imposed exile rather than join in the civil war, they became the clans and their descendants came back centuries later to try and conquer earth and everything in the way. Which they did a credible job of thanks to a technological edge, a weird warrior culture, and genetic engineering. They were stopped, for a generation
WhiteWulfe
So I'm thinking more and more about signing up for this one, but I'm curious... Will they let you add more funds afterwards through the pledge manager? Asking as I'm debating between Star Commander and Star Captain, but would like to be able to add in star and/or Lance packs (and maybe other things like dice and challenge coins) but also have to make sure other bills are still being paid... Corsair
Yes, they have said you can add on at least until the end of the Month's run. Like you I am watching to see how much more to add. Will probably wind up doing Blood Named + a couple more packs.
klarg1
If they hit the 1.25m mark, it might actually lower my pledge slightly, which is odd. on the other hand, at 1.5m, “Star Colonel” gets more tempting, so who knows?

Yup, The change to be able to choose 4 different packs as opposed to two pairs will probably be what sways my choice of package.
HornedTurtle
I got here after they hit the million dollar mark and I'm a little confused what you are actually getting in each of the pledge levels and what all the options are.

Same. It's... Hard to tell with a quick glance.
Sylverthorne
I ended up making lists? Someone else made spreadsheets. I have.. Star Commander, Star Captain and Bloodnamed! - I haven't managed to get up the courage to tackle Star Colonel yet, let alone anything above that. There is, in fact, a metric crap-ton of Stuff Available.

I am a huge battletech fan, but I have been hesitant to pledge for this because of the success it has had. Catalyst isn't exactly know for producing miniatures, and with some of their past financial issues I wonder how they will be able to handle the metric crap ton of stuff they are promising. I also have not been following this thread or the kickstarter much at all, so if they have addressed my concerns please let me know.

At this point, we're off miniatures - they hit 'Comstar' and said, 'okay, no more minis, now we're doing other stuff', and other stuff appears to be - so far - opening up options and maps and other goodies for the not 'automatically give us all the things' levels. I'm sort of dubious about the 'hey, we're going to stream things' levels, but, eh. I'm sure a lot of people are very google-eyed over that, and if it makes them happy, I am happy. ^^; I am in as much for all the extra fluff bits as anything; I have little interest in the 'Mech side of things, to be honest. But all the people? Yah, gimme. And this is my favorite era of the setting. And I'll paint anything you put in front of me. So, there's that.
WhiteWulfe
Surprisingly, I got approval from hubby to go in.... Unsurprisingly, it's a difficult decision between Bloodnamed and Star Colonel. The extra value of those four additional doubled star/lance packs (eight independently chosen ones if 1.5mil is hit) PLUS the neoprene mat is rather tough to decide between. CAV being delayed somewhat is helping this, but oy, that's.... A tough call to make, given that it sure wouldn't hurt to have a nice haul in the box....
