Doc Eon
A new phenomenon has appeared. When I put some minis in my shopping cart and click the button to calculate shipping, there also appears a line for VAT, which is added to the final cost. This has not happened on any of my previous orders. And the list prices for the mini has not changed. So in effect there's been a 25% price hike? Adrift
I think that Reaper has a special website set up for the UK which should allow you to buy directly from their local warehouse and bypass the VAT. Again, depends on your location...
Doc Eon
Yes of course I'm logged in, and the currency is set to Euros, same as always. I've ordered from the UK site ever since it went live, and this has never happened before. That's my point.
Moderator Darsc Zacal Posted June 29, 2019 Moderator Share Posted June 29, 2019 (edited) After a quick look at the FAQ section of Reapers online store, I found this. I’d email Reaper if you have questions at [email protected] Edited June 29, 2019 by Darsc Zacal
Doc Eon
Well, that second point would explain it. Now I'm just baffled they've implemented this in the past week (my order on June 19 wasn't affected) without any fanfare at all. It's a fairly big change, after all. All EU customers are going to start noticing it soon. Edited June 29, 2019 by Doc Eon

That isn’t the only change that has been implemented lately without any fanfare. Reaper raised the Canadian minimum for free shipping from orders of $35 US to $75 US. The big downside for us Canadians is that Canada Customs usually let’s packages of smaller dollar amounts through without customs charges, but an order of $75 US means over $100 CDN which is more than likely to be charged.
WhiteWulfe
Would be nice if other countries got that luxury. I love ordering through B&H since I can pre-pay the GST (that and half the time lenses from them are $50-100 CAD cheaper than local...) mustardgreens
Canadian here, it sucks. But this isn't Reaper's fault. This is just the way things are going for online orders. Though some form of notice would be a reasonable courtesy in my opinion. 1

This thread is more with regards to people in the EU suddenly having VAT taxes (think GST, on steroids, since it's 5x GST rates) on their packages with no warning to this change in policy. The Canadian shipping threshold being increased without warning was due to a lapse in discounted shipping rates, as mentioned in the thread for such. I'm guessing that renewing the rates was probably something that came due during Bones IV fulfillment, and because of the hectic chaos that is fulfilling that many orders of that many things it was missed... Or a company was cranky because they weren't being used 100% (most courier companies are notorious for this, having their discounted shipping rates requiring a set percentage of packages to be sent through them to get the discount). Sounds like at some point we shall see a lower threshold return, or we might not. Still would be awesome to be able to pre-pay the taxes that are legally required to be paid. That's right, if you import goods you're supposed to pay tax on them even if CanadaPost doesn't slap a bill onto the box.

That's right, if you import goods you're supposed to pay tax on them even if CanadaPost doesn't slap a bill onto the box. I live in a VAT free zone, even if we are "Spain" Canary Island have a special internal reduced tax called IGIC. And an internal Customs that will charge it to every package that hit the island. This is to compensate hight shipping rate due to the fact that we live in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. My biggest problem is that 90% of the site will autoapply VAT and it seems to be something sooo hard to them to add Canary Island to the VAT free zones, and often we have to pay the duties twice... we pay the VAT and then the IGIC... and this apply over VAT too: if something is 100 + 20% VAT, once here will be charged +7% IGIC AND manipulation... I will end up paying 141€ instead of 120€!!! if something is 100, no VAT charged I will end paying 107+ manipulation = 120 like everyone else in EU. Fortunately Reaper site do not apply the VAT to us.
Glitterwolf
This is fine by me as long as the Brexit hasn't happened yet. If that happens we EU members might have to pay VAT / Duties twice also like @Cicciopiu has to do. This is the reason I will probably no longer back kickstarters that will be delivered through the UK between now and the upcoming two years. And yes that includes Reaper Bones V unfortunately. I was wondering if they would find a way to protect us from that but seeing this it is clear that they can't do anything about it. Too bad. I'm lucky to own many unpainted minis and I guess I will have to do with those for a while.
Gadgetman!
I expect that when/if Brexit finally happens Reaper will deal with it correctly. They've got the VAT issue right for Norway, so odds are that they'll get it right for everyone else, too. Anyone having an issue should email Reaper to get it soerted once and for all.

I don't know what you mean by "correctly"? According to the section of the FAQ shown by Darsc above, Reaper got visited by the tax men and slapped on the wrist for how they've been doing it so far, and the new charges are what's correct.
