Let's Paint Some Stuff Red!(August Hobby Goals Thread!)

Recommended Posts

Wow, already the 5th...Gencon has absorbed 15% of the month already, but at least I was made to paint 4 figures...

As a result, I am still stalled on the 40mm French Revolution, but will still be working on:

6 British light dragoons (in progress, still filing the flash and assembling things)

12 French infantry  (one figure converted/assembled; need to decide on the look for the other 11)

4 French gunners

I noted last month that I had been playing with my 40mm imaginary 18th century countries figures, and primed a bunch before leaving for the con:

So I am expecting that is going to be where the muse leads this month.

August...?  <sigh>

Still far too disgustingly ridiculously hot here.  Still better to stay inside and paint.  I don't know how much painting I will actually get done for myself, as I will be visiting daughter and grandsons in Montana for two weeks.  It will still be hot there, but not as hot as here!

- Continue with villains for the ongoing commission

- Paint the Bones Black Dreadmere women for another commission

Anything beyond that is a plus.

Not sure if I will get any painting done in August.  We are rearranging furniture in the living room, we are going to buy some display cases from Ikea (Heines).  So we need to move everything to temporary locations, finding room for everything will be "interesting".

Goal for the month paint anything. I'm behind in my field work but it's finally going ok so long hours and not much energy in the evenings. In the last week I've managed to put a red base coat and black wash on 6 tiny space fighters.

My plan for August, which I've been working on, is NPCs.

I have 9 NPCs I need for the first session of my next new adventure path. At least 3 more for the rest of the first book. Probably more, the Mad King really should have his own painted mini, even though he only shows up for one scene. He is, after all, the king.

August goal:

Well next Weds, my party is gonna finish up "City that Dripped Blood" & afterwards they'll wander the desert trying to get back home but will eventually come into a ancient blue dragon's cave so I guess I better slap some blue paint onto that Wizkids gargantuan green dragon I have......

Almost all the time, my big badees are great looking minis (painted or not). I figured they've earned that status. Ha ha.

I've fallen a bit behind for the month so far.  I have about 11 miniatures from my existing collection painted but I have not yet based up my new figures.  This is partially because I left my bases at my wife's apartment when I was visiting here and also because I spent a lot of the last week setting up my new studio and game room.  Oh and I started a new major terrain project.  I hope to finish most of what I posed but I don't know that I will get all of them done.

I've been slowly moving stuff through the queue.  This month I need to:

1. get good photos of everything

2. put several months worth of painted figs away in storage boxes

3. prep some Bones to mess around with at Reapercon

4. finish up a few half painted figures from last month

5. repeat

Took photos of everything that I painted last month. Put away some of the figures (not all), and prepped figures to take with me to Reapercon.  Over the weekend I finished 3 ghouls, 2 fish barrels, and 4 humans.  Got 3 more humanoids in the works that I might be able to finish this week if time permits.  Or I might try getting photos of the new stuff I just finished.  Have assembled, cleaned and primed 6 new figures for the assembly line.

We are approaching peak seasonal temperatures (~100F, or higher with humidity) and it's looking like a good week to stay in and paint.

So finished up both commissions.  The villains completed a long seven-month project that was 64 minis.  And the client was so plesed with my work that not only did he pay me for the last set, but he gave me a $100 gift certificate to our FLGS as an additional thank you, both to me and to the store for putting us together.  So I bought a game and some more painting supplies and I still have money left on the gift certificate!  I was blown away!

So now I can head off to Montana this week without any pending projects, and enjoy the significantly cooler weather!

I didn't post any goals because of so much other RL stuff going on, but I have surprisingly made some good progress.

1. I am trying desperately to get my existing Battletech stuff organized and complete before CAV starts shipping.

2. Get the rest of my current CAV stuff finished painting.

As far as #1 goes, I do have everything of my Clanners primed and organized. My Ghost Bears have the 2nd color on them, so now it is detail painting and decaling.

I’ve made :::some::: progress, so I won’t complain, but it’s a little random. I’m still basing them, but I’ve done a six-man artillery crew in 40mm semiflat, and have the pieces of a 1/72 medieval handcart for the Portable Fantasy Campaign.
