Guys. Please. I know I disregard a lot of grammatical rules and autocorrect catches so many of my typos, but please, please, can someone change the title of this thread to read "Is it too early?" Thanks so much. ::P:

See, this* is why I'm not a mod. I would almost have to have changed it to "Is it two early?" Its** almost a compulsion.

* Well, and other things like limited tolerance for ... oh so many things.

Better?

I protest! It needs to mention, snarfuls, bigters, szees, and fornittetesses!

/Oh how autocorrect is screaming right now, but is powerless since it has been removed from power! The red underlines are all it can manage and I laugh at its pitiful attempt at making me correct these things that I have purposefully made up. Fie! Fie upon thee, software! Fie!

//Sorry. One hour telecon of absolutely zero usefulness has drained my sanity, what little remained of it.

Okay so I really want to attend next year.

I do have some questions, though:

what do I need to know to make for the best con-experience?

what are ribbons? (Yeah I know what they are, but in this context?)

what is bingo?

For the best expeience, sign up for a couple of classes; not too many as you eill want to leave time open for some games, a factory tour, paint and takes and the like.

Ribbons are given out for various things.  Reaper gives ribbons for tours, paint and takes, entering the paint contest and such.  Many attendees give out ribbons for whatever they decide the criteia is.  Collecting ribbons becomes a game in itself for some.

Bongo is actually Forumite Bingo.  Pegasus puts out a call for forum vollunteers to be put on the bingo cards.  Then anyone who wants a card gets one from him at the con and goes around finding the forumites one that particular card and tries to make bingo (or blackout).  It's a good way to intoruce yourself to the community.

Thanks @Dilvish the Deliverer I wondered how bingo worked!

I went to the RC2019, and dragged the wife and kids along.  By the end of the weekend we all agreed that this is what we’re doing for Labor Day weekend from now on!

Next year I hope we’ll be able to get into more classes.  We signed up late and there wasn’t much left this time.

I bought a VIP pass this year, and I understand that if I do that I’ll get early access to class sign-ups.  Since I registered late that didn’t help for 2019.

Next year, if I get one VIP pass for myself, will I be able to sign up the kids and wife for classes early too?  I want to get us all into a conversion class and have more options for another class or 2 for the wife and kids also.

So, 1 VIP for yourself and 3 non-VIP (since only attendees can take the classes)?

Er.... that may be a technical loophole. The purchasing system is confusing enough. I'll say that you probably could do that (I bought my wife's ticket and classes via my account; just have to edit the attendee part later), but in the spirit of things (and possibly getting that loophole closed before tickets next go on sale), you should only get the early classes that the VIP would be taking.

If you get four VIP ticketss, then have at it, of course.

My best advice, as someone who was a newbie this year, is definitely make time to socialize. For me, some of my favorite moments were sitting at the Hobby Hijinx table and talking to the people around me while we painted. I think (though I didn't play any) that the gaming tables would work well for this too. I met so many wonderful people this way. Also, I second the advice to take classes.

Let me splain this to the newbies as best as I can.

Reaper Con is similar to a family reunion. you have a lot of people you would have never met, if you had not gone.

Reaper is like the Mom, dad and grand ma/pa, with their children running around helping out (The workers)

Most of the big Forumites here will be like the Aunts and Uncles some of you know, but maybe have not meet face to face.

The rest of are the cousins you never knew you had and in cases, the cousins you wish you never had.....

There will be a set of people who see the reunion and decide we are having a lot of fun and show up to see what is going on. these are the people who have no or little clue of what we do, but will find it amazing and end up joining our little but growing family.

Best you can do is take it all in, if you get the chance to take a few classes, then Please do. EVERY instructor KNOWS their craft and what they do and are MORE than willing to share that knowledge and to help YOU understand.

Yes you NEED to SOCIALIZE!!!! Yes there are those of us who are grumpy old men who if given half a chance may bite, but most of the regulars know which ones will and will help guide you to safety or to a safe meeting with said, Great Uncle Bob.

That is the best way I can explain Reaper Con. We are a family and we are bound together with bonds tighter than Blood bonds could ever be. One or two 'rotten' eggs in the bunch, but you will/ are family.

to be fair I did lump myself into that group as well.

and i'm the little odd ball off in my corner haha

i usually find m yself isolated from the forumite tables due to how busy and crowded they get ::P: past three or four hubby and i usually end up sitting alone

this year though i had artist station! so i didn't feel quite as isolated since ihad a designated spot

but for newbies, yes definitely socialize, everyone is so nice

I would soften this statement a bit.

For me, and for many others, socializing with other artists in a friendly environment is a major draw. (In fact, I would call it my main reason for attending these days, but I have racked up 7 past ReaperCons, and a lot of friends to go with them.)

...but it is totally OK to sneak in, take a few classes, and hustle out without making further eye contact. Anybody who wants to stop by and check out something hobby-related is welcome.

You are right. Need should not be in Caps, and it should be should, There are those who do like to mingle, I get that, I am not fond of larger crowds over all heck there are time in which even at Reaper Con, I feel completely by myself.
