I have plans for next year's entries.  So many plans....

I need to diversify my entries, putting everything in painters is probably working against me....

considering they only pick one of your entries to judge...

Gotta get home, recover a little... paint some more. So give me a month. Lol

But excited for next year and the entry ideas are bouncing around in my noggin. Lots to plan for and such as traveling with precious cargo can be tricky.

Good to see and talk to everyone!

Here are some other graphics I found on T-shirts:

Pretty nifty ship, needs a little Pirating up.

(There are a bazillion t-shirt designs with pirate flag or pirate ship designs almost a TWENTY-PLEX ! I tell ya, aaaarrrrrh. )

...this did not ^ appear to be available in Purple. I somehow feel it ought to be...

We had barely sat down for the Farewell Dinner, we went down early and had apetizers while waiting for others to show up, when I was reaching for a notebook.

I wouldn't call it "planning stage" but more like "scheming stage".

Actual planning will come later.

But all that has been put on sideline by wifes medical emergency before we got out of Denton.

Details posted in Off Topic Rampancy.

Holy smokes! My account is still active here?? Thought for sure it would have been scrubbed.

Anyway, after seeing several folks on FB posting photos and updates from the latest ReaperCon, I'm seriously tempted to plan a trip there next year. Never been able to make it there, but next year looks promising on the schedule.

Not sure what all I'll do; maybe take a class or two? Pick up a few minis to put on the workbench to stare at me judgmentally for not painting them? Stand in the corner and try not to be a nuisance? Guess I'll think of something if it works out.

Ish.

They do look at all of your entries when they choose which one to judge, so a level of judging is already taking place.

But beyond that, there are quite a lot of awards for specific manufacturer pieces.  if you want to take part in every competitive category, it is worth having a Reaper Mini, a Reaper diorama, a Large Monster from Reaper, a Mousling a Dark Sword human, a Dark Sword human diorama, a Dark Sword Critter, a Dark Sword Critter diorama, a Chibi mini, a Bombshell babe, a Bombshell critter, a Frozen Ninja mini, a Paint it Pink entry, etc.

And while you can enter overlapping categories with the same miniature, the judges are often different, and don't always agree with one another (some judging is very much based on technical merit, others are swayed by creativity, fun factor, expression of lore, style, etc.

I have absolutely never heard of anyone entering every possible category at Reapercon, but there definitely are a lot of people who enter at least several categories.

i have a diorama planned out, that will also be a bombshell entry. It'll be fancier than anything i've done before.

i think part of why my stuff scores so poorly in the contest is because my bases are just not good enough. I've noticed most of what wins gold has some super fancy base, so i suspect basing scores higher than they list it does

Basing (Presentation) is a consideration for the painter's category, even if it isn't a high %.  Those small % matter more as you get higher in the scoring.  Also, what's more important (imo) for a base in painter's category is not whether it's fancy or plain, but whether it's painted and that it's painted in a way that is cohesive with the model itself.  If the base contains unpainted/partially painted elements or is distracting because it uses a different color palette than the model that is absolutely going to detract from the model overall and thus reduce your score.  If you're going to put rocks/sand and grass on your base without painting them or considering whether it matches the rest of the figure, you're better off painting it black imo.
