I had only good food from Hooligans, but the prices were definitely on the high side.  That said, those folks were slammed by us.  They had full staff the whole con and had 2 extra servers just running food to the gaming tables. There was a definite decrease in food quality from Thurs to Sat; I think we just wore them out.

I don't know about wearing them out; I just know that Fettuccine Alfredo shouldn't be soupy... Don't get me wrong, I'll still give them another shot next year, and they'll have an advantage since my expectations are going to be pretty low. Just expected a little better relative to the aforementioned menu prices. Needless to say, still better than IHOP.

the year before last when we didn't have a car, we got a whole chicken from Cowboy Chicken and kept it in our fridge upstairs eating off of it

ah man Cheddars has some great stuff, you just have to find it. My husband absolutely loves their broccoli cheese casserole side and their buffalo chicken wrapper meal, their wisconsin cheese bite appetizer is really good, and i really like their salmon

If you go to Cheddars and don't indulge in the Croissants, then life was not lived to it's fullest. Of the places within easy rock throw of the hotel, I vote that they were the best. Good selection, coma inducing portions. What's not to like? Anything is better than IHOP--Like performing Seppuku, but with pancakes.

I was not impresed with IHOP and will tell my people to forswear that cursed and blighted place.   I'd have put skull totems around it as wards if I'd had the time.   And also skulls.

I have completed my 3-year tour of American food places.  A few rank low enough to be "better than starving".  IHOP makes starving an attractive option.

IHOP--If you are looking for a heaping plate of whipped cream covered shame and self loathing, look no further.

My main dish at Cheddars was ok but those croissants are to die for.

Luckily after venturing out a bit with Mori and Marike's husband I discovered that there are plenty of alternatives for food fairly close, as well as a grocery store. Honestly I'm not above just buying some microwaveable fuds and doing that in my room.

Rastl & I first stopped at Walmart in 2018. We loaded up on goods so we wouldn't  have to worry about high priced restaurants. When we went to Reaper HQ that year we did stop at Chick-Fil'a but on our way back we found the Panda Express near the hotel so I grab that & just gave my CF to HerzogBrian instead. Gotta have my PE!!! Also anther traditional stop while I'm in Texas is Rudy's. I missed having that this year....

The restaurant at the coast hotel we stayed at this week, had extremely high prices. IIRC, a basic chicken salad was like 12 or 13 bucks!! Uhhh no. My only year at the current Con hotel I didn't partake in Hooligans due to the prices. Knowing that I wasn't going to be back this year, I decided to go with the artists (nothing against forumites, I just felt like going with them due to the Hooligans pricing). If I can make it next year, I'll try & block those prices out & attend with the forumites.

We tried Torchy's since they were offering % off with Reapercon badges.  Food was good but DH could not eat it, even the guacamole had chilies in it.  Food for serious pepper heads only.

We ended up going to Torchy’s a few times.  We go to the one near home in Houston regularly, and this one was just as good, except that the one in Denton has a full bar and very refreshing drinks.  The 15% ReaperCon discount was a great deal sweetener.  The sangria was excellent and very refreshing.  Their patio was large and they allow dogs outside.  That was nice because we were able to bring our puppy and feed her dinner while we ate rather than having to crate her in the hotel.

For future reference, Torchy’s can tailor the items on their regular menu.  Our kids always get simple steak or chicken tacos with only shredded cheese, and my wife gets the green chili pork without onions.  The tuna taco taco I get isn't spicy, and the breakfast ones aren’t either.  I think they can prepare non-spicy versions of most things on the menu.

We had torchy's take out one night. The shrimp tacos were salty and dry. Even with the sauce, it was difficult to eat and at almost $5.50 or something for one taco, that leaves me unimpressed and not unwilling to try them again. Fish and shrimp tacos in the bay area are $3 to $4 which I consider to be expensive, but they are tasty.
