Raffle and Auction format 2019

So, what does everyone think about the format this year with the raffle mixed in with the auction?

Normally, I would have enjoyed it but had planned to leave before the auction so it was inconvenient this year. I know most of the Kansas City folks leave right after the raffle every year so they were upset that it was mixed.

I ended up with four pairs of blue tickets buried in the bag ... completely missed the boat, I did ?

There were numbers being drawn Thursday others Saturday... ?

I don’t know how somebody deep in an RPG session, or up in their room, or what not (smoke break?) would hear their ticket called. That kind of thing could explain the numerous Number was called but No One answered instances I observed.

They did a raffle before the awards ceremony, so only two instances.

As a goer that stays Sunday night at the hotel, it didn't matter to me terribly, and I did enjoy the break in the action for the occasional raffle. But, yeah, I can see that for those that have to leave it's a PIA. Watching everybody leave after announcing that there were no more give-away was unsettling to me a bit, so I would lean towards having it all at the start.

We are/were driving tonight (Sunday) but planned to leave after the auction either way. I'll +1 the above comment. It didn't hurt us, and we enjoyed the occasional break in the auction, but would not be fussed if the drawings were first to enable earlier departures for some.

They also did a raffle during Reaper Live Thurs, so every official night.

I wasn't much of a fan of the auction-raffle-auction rhythm; it seemed to me to be making things worse on the timing issue, rather than better.

Didn't help that the usual communication hiccups almost resulted in raffle things being auctioned, and short delays to check whether an item was 'raffle' or 'auction'.

We had no idea when tickets were going to be drawn. I had no clue there would be a drawing Thurs.  I thought I remembered there being drawings on Friday and Saturday night in the past, but couldn't find any information.  Someone told me it would be Sunday, so we went up to our rooms Saturday only to find out after that numbers were being drawn. :(

By the time we left ~1pm today there were no raffle tickets left. Registration was turning people away.  I saw folks with yards and yards of purchased tickets.  Kind of ruins the fun for everyone else.

Overall I thought information about activities on the main stage and the con in general was lacking.   There was very little in the program book, and less on the web site.

I had no problem with the mixed format during the auction.

I was a little confused on when the raffle drawings would happen over the course of the Con, so I threw them in just before the awards ceremony. If the raffle times were posted someplace, I must have missed it.

Not a fan.

I'd prefer that they did the raffle first (like the other years I have attended), or on a different day altogether.

same here... in times past, IF I had time I would stay for the raffle and leave immediately after,  if its going to be mixed in, Ill just leave earlier...

I also found information concerning activities to be lacking

I would have liked the event schedule to be more prominent (my mind was telling me the award ceramony was at 630, yes I can be clueless)

The mix of raffles and auction was a bit  confusing, fortunately I didn't have that many tickets. It could be hard I would think to try and switch between stacks of tickets and auction.  I can see that it was worth the experiment though,  it did provide a bit of spice.

Maybe do an auction pre run for some special items to whet the appetite, then do the main raffel to give the auctioneer a break then finish with the auction?  Just thinking out loud.  The auctioneer prolly won't have a voice for a week.

I don't mind them mixing it up, but I really think they need to have a separate table for the auction vs. raffle prizes when they are displaying. I suspect people held out for a certain auction item only to find it raffled later.

Additionally, the bucks for raffle items only meant those who would normally only really have a chance for the raffle (those who couldn't afford classes or didn't play a lot of games) didn't have a real chance for the raffle. I know that's been a suggestion for a while, but it didn't remedy the auction prices jump. I heard several people complain they were unable to even buy raffle tickets at the point they were going to get them as well...which is disadvantageous to those who attend Saturday-Sunday only due to work or other issues. I feel like adding the Reaperbuck buyable raffle tickets didn't really help those people who have hardly any reaperbucks, which, to my understanding, was the goal. Maybe that can be solved with a max purchase cap for raffle tickets next year, so that you can't get as many (I saw one couple buy 64 raffle tickets).

Full disclosure: thanks to awesome people I was able to get what I wanted. But I expect this issue to only grow going forward. The raffle needs to feel like anyone there has an equal chance to win, with maybe a little ability to added to your chances. There is a reason people stay for the raffle then leave during the auction; it's easy to feel like there isnt any point to you being there.

I changed my mind...raffle really should come first. I'm not sure why they changed it up.

I must say that the number of items in the raffle and auction this year was impressive. I would just like to see people without many reaperbucks or without the chance to pool reaperbucks have a better chance at winning something.

Don’t worry I had plenty of voice left afterwards. Just like singing use your diaphragm. Lots of good ideas, will make list so it can be discussed.
