One idea I had to help you out was maybe some spotters in the audience wearing some fluorescent t-shirts ($3, Michaels). I’m sure a couple of volunteers could be found.

@Pegazus beat me to it. At other auctions I've been to there are assistants in the crowd that help point out bidders and help clarify when it gets to peoples limit (Was it $4700 or $4900 for your max bid?) I'd happily be one of the spotters.

I have never been to or participated in an auction that has spotters, I’m willing to give it a try.  I have done much bigger auctions over the years, this is my 35th year as an auctioneer. I primarily do Genghis Con in Denver and Reaper Con these days. I have also worked Gencon, Origins, Dragon Con and Stratigicon multiple times over the years. My experience is pretty exclusive to the gaming hobby.

I don’t know how somebody deep in an RPG session, or up in their room, or what not (smoke break?) would hear their ticket called. That kind of thing could explain the numerous Number was called but No One answered instances I observed. 

 

If there's a name on the ticket they should have a spot where they can put it aside for the winner to claim.  If no name then they could just move onto the next draw.

 

This would help people with a busy schedule participate if they are in class or outside the ballroom with a game.

A name and number on the back qualifying as being present is a good idea. There were a ton of people I talked with at Reapercon that didn't know there were/ would be multiple raffle drawings. Many of them were previous attendees and should remember but it happens once a year so it's easy to forget there's a raffle nearly night.

Another format I have seen used at hobby shows is where they draw tickets throughout the day, say once an hour.  You can walk around the show, shop, play games, etc. and check back at the desk periodically to see if your number was drawn.  Numbers are written out on a white board for reference.  Drawn tickets are randomly assigned to a prize, you show your half of the ticket and take your swag.  The board is wiped at the end of the day, so if you don't check  you don't win.  It's not as exciting, but also less work and less stress for everyone.

Back in the day you did have spotters - myself and Teddi when we played Vanna with the items. We just weren't exclusive to that role.

As for the swapping back and forth, I kinda liked it, but I can see why it wasn't popular. Having a clear idea of what'll be raffled, and what'll be auctioned would be nice too...

I didn’t realize there were raffle drawings multiple days.  I read in the program that the prize drawing was going to happen before the auction on Sunday, but might have missed something elsewhere.

 

How do the drawings on the earlier nights work?  Were the drawings taken from whatever tickets are in the drum at that time, and the rest of the tickets stay in until Sunday?  What if you miss the Saturday draw and your ticket gets called?  Does it get discarded or does it go back into the drum?

 

This was our first ReaperCon.  We had a great time (Sophie Says karaoke was a blast for the kids - thanks @Ludo!), but I felt pretty clueless most of the time.  An overall schedule of events for all 4 days would be great to have.  Is the program made available beforehand somewhere?  It would be helpful to have for planning.

I felt the auction was too long.. part of the reason a bunch of us left after they said there would be no more raffles is we were out of Reaper Bucks (mine went to a good blanket cause).  I might have saved some if I'd realized the Bones 5 items were going to be auctioned (maybe build hype by posting signs on the displays next time?).. but since I generally give all mine to kids who are bidding, I've not got as much skin in the game..   . I'd honestly like to have seen more raffle prizes.. 

 

I agree with the name/number on the back of the ticket idea and drawings all day.. I put my forum name on the back of every ticket, but a lot of people fail to do that..

Past years the raffles used to be during the Hall of Fame dinner and the auction.  And possibly during the paint contest award ceremony.  There used to be seperate tickets for the Hall of Game raffle.  They did away with the dinner and it looks like there is just the one raffle ticket pool now.

The Reaper Live draw was the big surprise this year.  They do a prize for the Twitch stream, but they also gave away prizes to the RCon attendees as well.  That was the Thursday raffle.  I dont know if it was intended to be that way all along or it was a last minite addition.

Yup, whatever tickets were there at the time. The unclaimed tickets did go back into the drum.

I had to grab one at registration, but they were previously in the bag. Unless you meant in a convenient pre-con, non-GrowTix format, then I don’t think there was a fully collated version of that. Bits and pieces of the schedule were out there but not all in one place.
