btw. because ced mentioned Thingieverse ... I also download a lot from there and the creator of this KS has a lot of free downloads of great quality on that platform, too. But I still buy stl files to support creators like him, for example, or because I have not seen files of a certain type/style in a certain quality on Thingieverse.

as a 3d printer noob, I'm especially drawn by "supportless".

I only just noticed this

When i started I was worried about supports, but with more experience (and I really don't have that much experience) they really aren't scary. You just have to work out what overhangs your printer can handle, and fiddle with the settings to get them easy to remove (I still dont' get it right all the time).

Getting a Resin printer cured me of any fear of supports ;-)

I'm seriously tempted by this project, unfortunately I don't know if I'll have the funds at the end of the KS :-(

$25 is not a bad buy in for the whole lot. Woolly mammoth looks great and the armored bears are cool.  A lot of the terrain looks like it could be painted as caverns, too.

But I think DH needs to clear the jam in his printer, too...

Using them as caverns is a brilliant idea, actually. I hadn't thought of that.

The bears could be brown or black bears, too.

As one of the testers, I will say that everything prints beautifully on an unmodded (except some replacement parts and a glass bed) Ender-3, which is one of the kits most suggested for beginners.

Awesome! Revising my statements earlier in the thread, I was able to get an Ender 3 for my classroom. I'll be backing this and I'm excited to see how it goes.

For purely educational purposes, of course.

I'm very happy with my Ender3 - getting good prints almost out of the box (only poor prints were because I forgot to tension the x-belt properly when assembling it!)

I've been happy with my Ender3 as well.  If I were to make one complaint, it is the noise level of the stepper motors.  I just invested in the new control board that has the silent motor drives, so hopefully it lives up to expectations.

I haven't looked in those for a while.  The early dampeners lowered print quality, which wasn't worth it to me.

hmm.  The reviews I've watched didn't note any reduction in quality.  I shall report back once I've received the parts and have been able to install.

Mine lives in my office, which is a lined room in the shed, so I don't have the same issue for noise level - and even when I'm working in there the printer is at one end of the room and I'm at the other...at least 6.5m away!

Still need to find money for this project
