Popular Post Xiwo Xerase
This is 77023: Barnabas, Human Warrior, a Bones miniature sculpted by Chaz Elliott. The short WIP thread is over here. (I'm only including it here for completion's sake. It really is a short WIP thread.) This is a quick tabletop paint. This took 4.5 to 5 hours (I forgot to time the last session). I'm hoping to improve speed further. I don't think I can beat primer + GW contrast paints but I have a sizeable stash of minis that need to be painted. (And then need storage after they're painted, but that's a different problem.) (click on the pictures for larger versions) Paints used: (all Reaper paints) Armor: Undercoated with Stone Grey, basecoated with Tarnished Steel, drybrushed with Honed Steel and Filigree Silver Sword: Undercoated with Stone Grey, basecoated with Honed Steel, drybrushed with Filigree Silver and Shining Mithril Hard leathers: Ruddy Leather, drybrushed with Oiled Leather and Burnt Orange Soft leathers: Tanned Leather, drybrushed with Amber Gold and Golden Blonde. Cloth drape: Monarch Purple, drybrushed with Royal Purple Shield highlights: Undercoated with Ruddy Leather, basecoated with Cursed Gold, drybrushed with Dragon Gold and Shining Mithril Shield symbol: Drybrushed with Shining Mithril Skin: Barbarian Flesh, highlighted with Bronzed Highlight and Golden Highlight Base: Dungeon Grey, drybrushed with Stone Grey, Pale Lichen, and Bone Shadow Washes: Black Wash (for the silvery metals) and Brown Wash (for everything else) in a 4:1 mix with Flow Improver Lining: Brown Liner thinned 1:1 with water So things I like: I think the drybrushing on his armor came out well. As did the drybrushing of the base. The lining definitely improved his shield. Things I don't like: The sword, although I'm not sure why The cloth drape is too dark and the folds aren't evident. It could probably have used another coat of lighter drybrush (Sorcerous Mist?). The symbol on his shield still isn't very distinct, even after lining. Perhaps the gold inset on the shield should have been a darker color. Overall, am I happy with how he's turned out? Sure. What do you think? Constructive criticism and comments are welcome. I won't be doing any more work on this mini (except maybe sealing if I ever join that mythical D&D group) but I can always use advice to improve my next mini. I'm sure I have more Overlords-ish minis in my stash.

Highlander
I agree with your self criticism. But, even with that criticism, you've done a cracking good job.

Sure. What do you think? overall, it's really good and for me personally none of your self-crticism would have bothered me if had painted it (actually working on this one right now). The Sword , not much you can do here. Plastic weapons are bent, flabby, bulbous and bulky looking. I've started cutting them off and making my own weapons out of sheetmetal. Does require a high quality set of tin-snips, belt sander, and a set of good sharp jewelers files. My Barnabas will soon be on the horse , holding a lance. After cutting off sword, drilling a 1.2mm (.05 inch) hole thru the hand with a hand spun drill bit in a pin-vice is a fun challenge. My favorite on your figure is the depth/shading on the armor, not easy to do even with dry-brushing, on a figure this tiny. I will be looking at it as finish mine
Iridil
That's a fine knight - my favorite part is the scabbard -
