As I'm not really familiar with the new bard rules right now, I'm gonna rule in favor of what is written by Paizo. One reason for this pbp is for me to get familiar with the rules before I run We Be Heroes as a full 2e game at LVO next January.

Still want to run this one, we just need that 4th (or more) player(s). Go ahead & make characters & well keep em in a holding pattern till it becomes official that I'll run this.

I'm trying to figure out whether PF2 is lie D&D5 in terms of "casters really need to go all out on the casting stat". In terms of style, the grumpy elf bard would probably be nicest with CHA/DEX/INT 16 (INT because smartass, DEX allowing him to do replace a thief at low level at least), rest 10s, but I guess CHA 18 might be too important to pass up on? Anyone know this, yet?

From what I've seen of the two systems they share more things then it appears. Hero points for example sounds just like Inspiration in 5e, only ou start out with it vs earning it in 5e. 

 

Also it appears that each class has a primary spellcasting ability, CHA for Bards. If it's like 5e higher ability score, the higher your DC will be for your spells & such. I know my player's spells have been thwarted that need a save due to low or avg DC numbers.

So, it all comes down to a +1 difference for your spellcasting attack roll and DCs.  16 gets you +3, 18 gets you +4.  When you hit 5th level, you get 4 stat increases.  If you went 16 you can add +2 to get to 18, if you started 18 you only get a +1 to get to 19, so from 5th-9th level you are even.  10th level you get to 19 and 20 repectively getting the 1 bonus point difference again.

 

So from a purely optimization point of view, 18 is better than 16 for half of your levels.  I don't have any experience with the system to tell if it will make that much of difference during game play.  My gut feeling is that it won't.

 

As far as replacing a thief, depending on what everyone else plays, that might already be covered.  If you are going grumpy bard them I will most likely go war cleric or fighter depending on the rest of the party composition  Not sure if dwaven cleric of Torag or half-orc cleric of Gorum.  Depends on how anti-diplomacy you all want me to play.

I can answer the Cha question somewhat.  +1's matter more in this system than say PF1, on the order of 2x.  So, if your choices in PF1, were +6 to attack, or +8, would that help your decision?  (I'm not familiar enough with 5E to say from that perspective.)

You CAN get away with a 16 starting stat, but unless you are going with zero spells/powers/cha based skills/abilities that you need to force a save, or make an attack roll with, you do not want to be less than 16.

As for Level 5+, Plaguestone does not expect to hit those levels, if that changes anything as well.  4, 4 is potentially within the realm of doable.  Haldir might be willing to keep going after, but hasn't indicated as such as far as I've seen.

A party of Rogue, Bard, Cleric, is actually really solid, and covers a lot of ground.  Would a 4th help?  Yes.  (I do have a rogue and a cleric in my pile, and could easily switch things around as needed.)

Right, well, maybe I can do what I always do and dump wisdom to get that 18/16/16. What could possibly go wrong?

So under the assumption that I'll be the cleric, deciding to go wis or cha. As my secondary.  Wis gets me better casting, Cha gets me more healing surges.  Or just split the difference.  Leaning to the slplit the difference.

I will run either a fighter or a war priest as needed.

If the group as above was rogue, bard, Cleric then I can go fighter.  If you wanted to play a fighter then I can make a Cleric.
