Boneflail, Gnoll Cleric, 77234

Recommended Posts

Here we go. Gnoll patrol is on the roll. I'm going with a Shield Brown base for the fur (09161) and then building up with Desert Stone (09431) and Desert Sand (09432), I'll then do brown spots, a black muzzle and some red wash in the mane/crest. I'm going to take the advice I got on the last gnoll I did and put a light glaze over the top of the spots to blend them a little better this time. The shield and the skirt I'm going to paint like people-skin, because he's called Boneflail for a reason. My plan is to use a triad of Scholar Flesh (09444), Youthful Flesh (09445), and Pale Flesh (09446) and then apply a Flesh Wash (09253) to make it look really gruesome.

I welcome your advice and critique. Thanks!

SHE is called Boneflail for a reason...

That's a female.

Other than that, don't forget to add bloodspatter on the flail.

Another WIP update. Bone Flail has a lot of stuff on her. Just FYI. :)

It's hard to decide what to do next. I always try to paint "inside out" but as I said, she's got a lot of stuff on her. As I'm posting this, I've added a couple of layers to the shield, but then? The strapping, maybe?

Looks good.

I would suggest a dark brown wash for the base, it would make the contours of the sand and stones stand more out.

Another WiP update for Boneflail, gnoll cleric.

The shield was too big and empty so I put a bloody paw print on it.  Go Gnolls!  Although, it does look horrifyingly like human skin, so mission accomplished!

I've painted the smaller straps with (I think) Saddle Brown and the bandoleer and satchel, I've decided on black. I've based all the bits I intend to paint as metal with Glacial Mist. But, the belt buckle area looks like it wants to be at least partially made of bone. I dunno.

I'm going to take LarsM's advice and hit the base with a brown wash next.

Thanks for visiting! :)

OK, I am done with this mini. Feeling done. Ready to move on with new minis. Here's the final.

I used Void Blue for all the fabric/leather toggles holding her stuff to her belt and bandoleer and added some details to the black bag using the same color. I assume they're surgical instruments of some kind. Perhaps potion bottles. Who can say?

I used a couple of nice thin coats of Gore Red on the flail head for blood splatter. The base is now Brown Washed and I went back and highlighted a little with the second color. It looks much better. Thanks, LarsM!

Go Gnolls!

I followed another poster's advice from another gnoll I painted and glazed her spotted fur with the mid-tone, Desert Stone, and I like the effect.

The small sack is Gore Red with a couple of glazes of Polished Leather. The larger bag is Rich Leather with some Polished Leather highlights.

Bone handle on the mace. Skeleton Bone, Brown Wash, highlighted with Skeleton Bone. Come to think of it, that's how I did all the bones.

Whew! Glad that's done. Now get on that table and earn for your Daddy.  ;-)
