Day 11, Dory Whynot's prompt is "Window."

This is inspired by a zen window I saw looking out onto a garden. It's Prismacolors on black paper.

I did it again...

...my day 10 drawing also works for the next day (11) on a different list. I swear I didn’t look.

This image was inspired, believe it or not, by the earliest works of Piet Mondrian.

1280px-17_sep_13_mondrian_castle.jpg

If Mondrian is well known it is for his very abstract paintings that consisted of black lines and blocks of primary colors. But before those, starting out, what he was fascinated by was things like stained glass windows, clear-ish window panes, or criss-crossing tree branches. Anything where the colors in the background were divided up by stark intersecting lines.

Day 12, Dory Whynot's prompt is "Fallen Angel."

A quote from Shakespeare's "Macbeth":

"Angels are bright still, though the brightest fell:
Though all things foul would wear the brows of grace,
Yet grace must still look so."

So I am well behind at this point, but I feel ok about it because I've seen a lot of theater and painted minis over the last several days. And I've also got quick sketch ideas does for most of what I'm late on, so I just need to lay down ink.

Again: these are just quickly sketched ideas...

09 Oct: "dusk + red crowned crane"

10 Oct: "seance + dragon tree"

IMG_20191013_122206977.thumb.jpg.28c3e1c11e2f32d1bfc1b3bc7621f127.jpg

11 Oct: "window + Pacific pocket mouse"

IMG_20191013_122213365.thumb.jpg.da2fcff0a4b2ff5718e16d2813d8e4ad.jpg

I wasn't able to go to the art supply store as intended, but I dug around at home and found that I have two packs of artist trading cards, which are Bristol in a smooth finish and a vellum finish. So the pocket mouse stained glass window is on smooth Bristol, we'll see how it goes with the markers.

Day 13, Dory Whynot's prompt is "Apothecary."

Another tribute to the World of Darkness campaign set in East Germany in the 1980s (and some Old School type brush and ink illustration):

I had a plan, it was a good plan, where I would finish snow (day 11) early and then have lots of time to work on dragon (day 12). Saturday I was overcome by Garfield Nap Attack Syndrome. So now I am playing catch-up by combining Dragon and Ash.

Anybody interested in WiP snaps?

It will probably be tomorrow before I post the finished version.

When I did a google image search on Ash (because I had no good idea how to ink that or much inspiration at all) do you know what turned up?

1000 variations of the kid from the Pokemen franchise, and nothing else in the first gazillion hits.

Apparently that’s his or her name. Who knew?  Everybody that is not me is who....

Ash is also a tree; often referenced in ... druidic ritual? wiccan ritual?  Oak, Ash and Thorn (probably hawthorne) are often used for such things. I don't know if that helps any, but... might give you an alternative to search?

      Better late than never.

Here's some fun Pumpkin Horrors I painted up for @Inarah for Secret Sophie this past December.  I was still riding on my Halloween spirit when Secret Sophie began, but wanted to do something that fit the winter theme.  Inspired by the snowman-like design of the Pumpkin horrors and my own past mistakes of leaving pumpkins outside to rot all winter, I decided to do a holiday mashup with these guys left out in the cold too long.

With some time having passed, I wish I would have made them look a bit rotten and frost-bitten, but I also like the more colorful result.

      More Photos Below the Spoiler:

These were some fun minis and my first time working with metal.  I have now broken the seal and have started looking into other minis that I previously considered off-limits.  I also enjoyed participating in Secret Sophie and joining in to some of the forum shenanigans.  I highly recommend participating in these kinds of things for any who have been reticent.

What are some of your favorite holiday minis?

This is Reaper's Elise the Witch.
      SKU. 02863 ( Metal Figure)

Once she was part of a big Halloween Diorama but that didn't survive the move.
I was able to save the minis though.

I rebased her, gave her some highlights/ repainted parts.
She's back in action now, ready to turn you into a frog or a willing servant.

I’m not usually big on terrain painting, but I thought this would be a good cap off for my month of spoooooky minis..

Welcome to Getting to Know You, NOVEMBER 2020 Edition.

The rules as they currently stand ( we all know most of you rebellious lot will ignore most of it, but one can try)

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one...
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted between 8:00 hours and 12:00 hours CET. ( Central European Time)
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me...
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions will usually take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.
