I have me a bit of a dubious, largely because I'm not certain these will, in fact, work for anybody. But. Still.. the concept is pretty damn cool.

"Tilt Five is a whole new way to play games, in Augmented Reality (AR), with freaking holograms!

When you slip on the Tilt Five glasses and look at the game board, a vibrant 3D world opens up to you.  Suddenly chasms seem to drop infinitely into your table, and game characters and monsters spring up from the game board.  This is gaming unlike anything you've experienced before.

"When we started designing the Tilt Five system our focus wasn't on the technology for technology's sake.  We wanted to provide an amazing gaming experience that blends the things you love about video games and board games. And we wanted it to be just as fun when playing solo, together with your friends, or even when you're apart."  Jeri Ellsworth, Co-Founder & CEO "

Be interesting to see if this lives up to itself.

VR is always in the state of looking like the next generation will be the one. I think the same here. It's already double funded so our curiosity will be satisfied in time. Somebody will do something amazing with these, but as far as catching on it looks niche.

As someone who grew up with the "oooooh, holograms" phenomenon of the 80's and 90's, I feel... I dunno, it's a neat application for augmented reality, but at the same time you can't exactly call AR holographic.  We have Star Trek to thank for "showcasing" what such would be like.

Do I like the idea? Oh yeah, it's rather near, but that entry price is for early adopters only, sadly. (I'd sooner get an HTC Vive Pro with the same amount of money, or whatever they called the new one).

Do I wish it well?  Oh yeah, I'd love to see this succeed. Just not something I have the funds to invest into. Or living room space for such.

I am very skeptical about this.

This looks like another of the over-hyped, over-promising, under-delivering technology campaigns that regularly pop up. (Have you seen the top 10 highest funded KS campaigns? How many of the technology ones weren't without issues? Pebble Watch; Coolest Cooler; Ouya game console; etc. I won't even touch what goes on on Indiegogo.)

One of my red flags was seeing the wall of "mentioned on this site", 90% of them you never actually heard of, and are basically the same as paid advertisements.

Virtual/Augmented Reality technologies have been around for many years now (decades even), and have yet to become mainstream, even when tech giants like Google and Microsoft have a crack at it. You'll try it a couple of times, then put it back in the closet.

This is interesting.  I think Cranky Dog is right - it's one of those things that is a novelty that will be tried a couple times and put back in the closet.

I did a little research, and Tilt Five is the second go at something like this on KS for one of the principals.  Jeri Ellsworth was also one of the principals behind the castAR Kickstarter back in 2013 that never delivered.  However, castAR did eventually manage to refund all the KS backers before the company shut down in 2017.
