October 10: What was your best/favorite subject in school?

Best was probably music, which was probably also my favourite - at least through junior high anyways.  Why best?  When you can fool a provincial examiner TWICE thinking various things and doing double takes...  Grade 8, we only had four timpani drums, but the examiner said on tape several times he had to keep looking over at my section because he SWORE that the music we were playing needed five.  Well, it did.  Most recommended five, because of how much was going on in the piece.  Since we had four, I spent hours upon hours training myself to not only be able to tune them on the fly, but to get it right, pretty much bang on every time.

Grade 9, we had a rather complicated piece we were using for the competition, and I'd switched to the Oboe.  Not wanting to be the one holding the group back, I trained and practiced various things for 3-6 hours every single day in order to not only get better, but to be able to make some of the more difficult note change movements without issue.  Come exam time, the examiner had to keep checking his notes, because he swore I had easily 3-5 years of experience, and not 6-7 months...

My favourite was electronics class though, because of various things but I'm going to give the "blame" for such to the teacher for being so massively epic.

Probably history and literature. But it really depended on what the subject of the class was in any given period. And my grades were rarely great, because I didn't (and still don't) believe in homework.

The only subject where I decompressed  and enjoyed the time was Art. Didn’t really have Art as an option every school year though.

I pretty much hated school. (K-12)

I didn’t really have a “Best” subject, I got A’s or B’s in everything. If it involved: books, being indoors, taking tests, figuring out answers, or remembering facts it was fine.

But I detested being there.

I did all the homework. I got interrogated about how much homework I had, and then I had to do it. I don’t know how the sportsball kids ever coped. Some of them cheated or tried to, some of them just crashed and burned academically.

Oh, my parents asked. I either lied about how much I had to do, half-arsed it, or lied about how much I had done. Eventually they gave up. It was hard to argue when I was getting 90% or better on all the tests & quizzes. *shrug*

Down with homework!

Urgh... The sheer number of hours I spent in detention and isolation because I never did mine.

Weirdly I can't ever remember getting detention or anything like that for it. I just got a zero grade. I was a hard kid to punish. Take away my video games? Okay, I'll read. I was very go with the flow, and it made life at least a little difficult for my parents and teachers.

Biology and English

I was originally on the path to be a Genetic Engineer, but switched majors to Tech. Com. with a concentration in linguistics due to my absolute inability to remember how to do algebra for more than a few weeks.

I still love biology and spend a lot of time studying the natural world.
