Names? Fffft. heh. [snort] BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA It takes me a year of regular interaction before I'll remember a person's name. I'll remember their voice after two words but their name will take forever. 2 2

I'm pretty hit and miss. Some people I can remember easily, others I can't ever it seems like. Recently called 2 different people I've known for 20+ years by their brothers' names.

Names no, but I will at least remember their faces so I'll know later on if it is someone I'm supposed to be able to recognize or not. Back in school when I was a TA and had about 60 students per semester, I'd finally remember who the quiet ones were by the last week of classes. 4

Jasper_the_2nd
Returning after a long weekend (Happy Thanksgiving fellow Canadians!) On 10/12/2019 at 1:50 PM, Corsair said: Question for the 12th & 13th [two parts for two days]What is your favorite smell to wake up to? What is your favorite weekend breakfast? Roasting turkey, although we rarely cook it for lunch, so I rarely wake up to that smell. For something I wake to more often, of course, bacon. Favorite weekend breakfast: if on low carb: bacon and eggs. If not on low carb: pancakes and bacon. Seems to be a theme.... 14 hours ago, TaleSpinner said: October 14: Do you remember names well after meeting people, and if so, do you have a method for memory you can share? I usually start my conversation with new people with, "Hi, nice to meet you. I apologize in advance for not remembering your name." because 1) I'm Canadian, so preemptive apologizing is appropriate (sorry), 2) it takes me anywhere from a week (if constant interaction) to maybe 6 months (for someone I see once or twice a week) for me to remember someone's name. And if my brain decides you look like a Steve (for example) I will never remember your name is actually Larry. Sorry Steve. 2

I’m terrible at remembering names. And I make no bones about it, I tell people I don’t remember their names and ask them again. It’s not my fault my brain doesn’t store that info, it’s too full of important things! 2

I am just awful. I've forgotten names in the moment after they've been told to me. I only stand a chance if I make a concerted effort to repeat it out loud, make an association (e.g 'your name's Janice, nice to meet you Janice!. Thinking to myself, like the muppet and conjuring the image of Janice and Dr Teeth). The repeat it to myself after having met them and then trying to recall it the next time I see them. Even this usually fails. And, well, I usually dont make the effort. I just let people know that I'll forget and I won't mind if they forget my name too. It gets me (and often them as well) through the awkward reintroduction next time we see each other.
kristof65
I remember names just fine, and I can often remember where and when I met someone. Faces, however, I suck at. Which means that unless I see you a lot, or you have an unusual feature that I can remember, when we meet again, I will have no idea of who you are until I hear your name again.

Nope, People do not pronounce or spell my first name well at all, after suffering through years of this I decided that people obviously do not care about names and chose to place as much importance on pronunciation and memory as they have shown me. I have been called Sharon, Yvonne, Wendy, Simone and Simon as well as horrible corruptions of my actual name. For the record, my father in law still pronounces my name wrong. Just call me Sib or Sibling and everything will be fine.
