October 16: What hobby related thing(s) are you working on (pics please)?

I'm in the process of turning my entire attic into one giant hobby space. I'm halfway through tearing down and rebuilding a kegerator. I recently finished up a new grant proposal for funding to build a prairie wetland on my farm (I don't get paid so it's a hobby). And this is what's on my painting table...

Wow! Thanks for all the 'likes' everyone! ::D: I wasn't going to inflict him onto the forum until I started slapping the paint on, but maybe I should start that WIP a bit earlier than I planned.

Mind you, the next stage might be entitled "Waaahh!!! Why are scales so difficult?"

This project has given me new respect to proper sculptors like @TaleSpinner. I've ordered some firm putty shapers to see if they help with taming the greenstuff, hopefully they should arrive tomorrow.

 Buying more minis...

I just acquired three more box sets from the Grenadier Colossal Lords series - the male and female frost giants and Dracona the Dragon Empress. (I now have five out of the twelve, as well as all three of the Master Wizards sets.)

I also acquired the 11-451 Satyr and 11-522 Banelar from the Ral Partha AD&D Monsters line,  the Half Orc Slime from the Grenadier Comedy Lords box, and an incomplete set of the figures from the RP 10-504 Dragonlance Villains box set.

In relation to a slightly different hobby, I also got a really good deal (like half the regular price) on the 1986 Maia & Borges Presto the Magician pvc figure from the D&D cartoon. For those that don't know, these European-manufactured figures never got a large release in the US, so they're fairly rare and expensive when you find them. I now have Presto and Sheila, which means that I have about 1/4 of the figures now. (#lifegoalslol)

Your concept art looks great, I am really looking forward to seeing your progress. For some reason, the fins in the art made me think of the seahorse in the second Percy Jackson movie (which was a good design, IMO). I think he'll look awesome when finished. :winkthumbs:

Well, I guess getting a job, then getting an apartment could be considered a hobby related project... in that I need those things to have space to hobby.

Is that a chocobo? Where did you get it?!

They are Neirans from Bombshell miniatures counterblast line. I'm not sure what the bird is supposed to be? But it does kinda look like a chocobo... hmmm. You may have helped me outta my slump. Now to get some free time.

I have WIP threads on the first 2, but here’s where they’re at now.

Amiri that I’m using to try to learn how not to suck at painting minis:

Demogorgon because I was ordered (by a wolf) to paint my biggest bestest mini even if I have no idea what I’m doing (haven’t gotten very far yet):

Group of dark elves I’m painting a bit more casually just for tabletop play:

And I started painting a group of lizard men with my kids and their D&D group that I DM to teach the group how to paint.  Endgame: I will use them as free labor to help paint the backlog of bones I’ve picked up so we can use them in our game.  Can you tell which one was painted by someone older than 13?

And I figured out that mini Solo cups aren’t just good mini painting handles for tweens - they also make good mini protection devices:

Well, I just declared my ReaperCon practice project finished:

https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/88564-toad-demon-77377/

That project taught me how rusty I am, and how little time I am spending with a brush in my hand. I need practice, just to build up and maintain some brush control.

Since my schedule isn’t getting any easier, I dusted off an old Kings of War tabletop experiment, just to give myself a place to push some pigment now and again:
