You need an excuse?

She's growing so fast!

No koi yet, but two plecos, and 10 goldfish, plus a large green frog that moved in on its own that my son named Frank.

I love Frank and I don’t even know him. Frogs is cute.

Not as cute as this though!

Tuesday, October 1:

As Autumn takes over fully, lets remember summer one last time:  What was the highlight of your summer?

That it's gone.  It was wet, way too cloudy, and when it wasn't cloudy it was kind of too hot for my taste.  Then again, I'm not a fan of summer, so I'm always happy to see fall take over!

Bonus Poll: Should I refrain from Bones V related questions?

By all means.  I've no mind one way or the other ^_^

Well, if we can answer in batches and suggest future questions, I really don't see a problem with answering future questions:

Chartreuse Caboose.

Jeopardy format:

What is a good name for Thomas the Tank Engine’s new girlfriend? (E.g: a name for the second plastic injection molding machine Reaper would like to add after Bones V ?)

Interim Question for October 1: Is 40 minutes a "few"?

:poke:

It is not. Even if you are not waiting for Bones V to start.

It was not as horrifically hot as it might have been.

ReaperCon was supposed to be the highlight but I kinda blew it, only managing to be there one day even though I had a four day pass.

Bones V

I am thinking each weekend you could ask people to predict where the grand total will be by noon (or 10am, or the first moment you check it) on the following Monday...this alongside the quest. Award bragging rights to whoever is closest.

Maybe sprinkle a few in as alternate questions. Maybe no more than twice a week, once per week might be better.

@Doug Sundseth and @Crowley already took us there anyway...although Doug might not have known he did.

Each year, at least until high school, the dread "what did you do last Summer" essay loomed over the first few days of the return to school.

I never could come up with a decent story even then.

I cannot recall ever being accosted by such a miserable assignment. Not in 12 years of schooling.

  1. I built a water feature:

Nice 1:1 Scale Terrain Piece. The water effects are particularly realistic. It just needs a bit more flocking around the edges.  ::P:

October 2: What is your favorite gemstone (precious, semi-precious, or otherwise) and why?

(Multiple choices are welcome, mostly because I won't be able to keep it to just one.)

Sapphire - mainly because I love the color blue and its my birthstone.

I always liked rose quartz. It's pretty.

You're right, way too many:

  • Beryl
  • Corundum
  • Jade (all the colors)
  • Turquoise
  • Opal

But not diamond, which is both quite common and not especially pretty. Useful for cutting tools, though.

Strongly recommend the gemstone exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science if you ever find yourself in town. Being as Denver started as a mining town and there are still many mines in the surrounding mountains, the collection is both extensive and gorgeous.

I do love gemstones: various types of agates, tigers- eye, jasper, malachite, amethyst, turquoise...not necessarily in that order.

Ammolite is interesting because it has all the colors. Rubies, sapphires and emeralds are purty. Never did care for diamonds because to me they don't look any better than rhinestones or cubic zirconium.

I've always been a fan of emeralds and sapphires due to the color, though not enough to specifically buy jewelry with them, etc.

I guess mine would be sapphire because it's my birthstone. Now the Missus, she likes diamonds!

All the shinies!

Mexican fire opal,  malachite, amber. Just love the soft translucence of carnelian.  Sapphire is my birthstone but it's usually too dark, so I prefer tanzanite.  Larimar reminds me of the ocean.  Garnet, if it is really red and not pink or brown.

Back in the early days I used to buy loose gemstones by the gram off ebay, thinking i could get them set later.  Little did I know the settings would cost more than the stones.
