I was once woken up and handed a phone, sworn in, and questioned about a former manager’s conduct. I have no idea what the results of the trial were, I don’t think I corroborated anything he was trying to say. The current manager called me after it was done and apologized for waking me up. She actually sounded pretty mad that the guy had tried to use me as a witness. 6

I guess it could be argued that I served as a judge when I was coaching kickboxing, constantly watching to determine whether people were fit/skilled enough to step into competition. And therefore also serving as a corner-man, because the entire ordeal of supporting a student/comrade go through that is a trial.

We had a field trip in the eighth grade to the local courthouse. We took over an empty courtroom and ran a mock trial and then spent the rest of the day bouncing between active courts to watch the actual proceedings with actual judges and cases of child endangerment and kidnapping. Since then I've been called and dismissed for jury duty a few times but never served. I haven't been called for years now. I'm wondering when the next one will be; as a fed I'm more likely than an ordinary civilian to be picked to serve on a jury if I do get called. As a fed I have no ability to claim hardship, the court knows I'll get paid for my time regardless. Also as a fed I'm held to a different legal standard, Congress has decided I can be fired for tiny things like a no-show jury warrant Last year during filing season we had one guy who got called for a month long case. During filing season He wasn't allowed to say 'no' no matter what our manager ranted or raved or who she complained to (district manager, site director, the union, etc) 4
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted October 24, 2019 Author Moderator Share Posted October 24, 2019 No, but I am seeing a side that I never wanted to see; that of a murder victim's family/friends (which is how I thought of this morning's question). The oldest (24) son of one of my best friends was murdered, rather brutally, 18 months ago. His murderer is now on trial. It is a weird trial, as there is no question at all whether she did it; that is clear...she did it. No, the only defense they are mounting is that she was acting in self defense. As such, they are putting my friend's dead son on trial as much or more than her. It is really, really horrible listening to how the defense is trying to twist him into some sort of psychotic, violent sex-maniac, with no real evidence and only her word on it or the word of those who are quoting what she said. It is crazy and sad. So far though it is really not going well for the defense. The prosecution has all the actual forensic evidence on their side, good evidence of a retribution induced motive, and there are several pretty clear indicators of premeditation (preparing the knife, car, location, etc, plus cover-up attempt and multiple stories/lies she used to explain how it happened, including a completely new version of events now being put forth by the defense that contradicts much of what she said in her police interviews and the evidence). There is also a host of people who knew both defendant and victim personally and intimately who are lining up to witness for the prosecution, many volunteering before the subpoenas even went out. Unfortunately, my friend's wife has to testify as a character witness, so she is having to sit through all the pictures of her son's mangled body and the twisted theories that the defense is putting forth.

Morihalda
No trial, though my heart hurts for personal reasons when they are mentioned. I'm so sorry, Andy. That's cruel. 6 hours ago, TGP said: Not giving up yet... The reason I keep trying is that little kid —past me would have reacted exactly you did to a heap of blocks like that. Your comment struck a nerve. But in a happy way. <3 The Anchor ones are closer - in that when I looked them up, I suddenly remembered that the little stone bricks came in a wide, shallow box. They were definitely stone, not plastic or wood, they were cold. But they were smaller than the big set picture you posted. 8

NomadZeke
Nope. Got called once for jury duty, answered the questions in my own special way for the interview, they never called me back, or gave summons again. 6

Yes. Made a vegan pumpkin alfredo recipe before that was pretty good, but not very filling as written. I should try again sometime. I think pumpkin cheesecake is still probably my favorite though. My sister-in-law makes an amazing from-scratch pumpkin pie, just had some at Canadian Thanksgiving a few weeks ago. Old computer games for the Mac. I tried to get Crystal Quest (arcade-style top-down monster shooting game) to emulate, but it was always too fast, and therefore going from insanely difficult to outright impossible for me. Escape Velocity (space opera) gameplay style has evolved into EVE Online/Endless Sky, but I really wanted to try the original storyline from a few more factions. Just searched: Crystal Quest is on Steam for $5 now, but the original storyline of Escape Velocity is still unavailable. On 10/23/2019 at 8:21 AM, TaleSpinner said: October 23: Do you paint busts? Got to voir dire aka being interviewed to "audition" for the jury. The really scary thing was how nearly every single one of us potential jurors had either experienced serious domestic violence or had a close friend/family member who had. I wasn't chosen (possibly because I told them I couldn't unknow my chemistry degree if they presented bad science as evidence), but it was an interesting window on a real courtroom.
