paint-n-take show off -- Recruits 2019

My husband and I run the Paint and Take table at a local convention, Recruits.  It's held at the high school, admission is free for all area students, games are child friendly, etc.  We get really good turnout.  The paint table is free for kids of all ages, even grownup kids, and it is funded entirely with donations.  All of the figures, all of the paint, water cups, brushes, etc come from the wonderful community we have here, from the internet, and from vendors.  It's typical for me to arrive early Saturday to set up and find one or more anonymous boxes of figures or paint waiting.  A couple of years ago at Reapercon folks helped fill a box with mouslings for me to give away.  I could not do this without the support I get from the painting and gaming community.

So here is this year's class:

(BTW, if you got stuff in your Bones4 core that you do not want, find me at next year's Reapercon, I will see it goes to a good cause)

This is our table about ten minutes after setting up.  Busy the entire day.

Some of the fine works of art created by the kids who participated.  They look forward to this all year.

Got to pick up more baby dragons next year. I only had the one and it resulted in crying. :(

I visit this forum regularly for about two years now after getting into mini painting. This post was the first time I have ever felt compelled to reply. Never knew you needed a separate forum account, so just created one for this.

I am truly impressed with this! All volunteer time, bringing art to kids (and big kids too) in a entertaining way to keep them engaged. I wonder how many people have become passionate about gaming or mini painting because of this event.

Well done!

@Crissair, thanks, and welcome to the forum!

I haven't counted, but I would guess we get several dozen participants during the ~8 hours we are there. I love seeing the kids come back excited to paint every year.  While most of the kids are younger than the paint they are using, some of the "kids" are in college and still come back.

Welcome!

Oh, and now that you've admitted to have been painting for 2 years, it's way past time to post something in Show-off...

Remind me when we get closer to ReaperCon next year. If your interested, I currently have some goblins and kobolds that I would be willing to donate (might have other minis as I continue to work on sorting & organizing the hoard). Might even throw in a bottle or three of BCA Pink.

Here's the last batch of pictures:

This is my absolute favorite paint job of the whole con.  Where everyone else saw a tired old war horse, this little girl made a carousel pony.  Beautiful!

Saturday morning there is a big silent auction with all kinds of games, figures, terrain, etc brought by everyone.  It fills this hall all the way down to the doors and the lobby on the left side.

There's sometimes rare and unusual bargains to be found.
