Jester
I use 28 Guage wire... either copper or untreated silver/metal. To keep the tool from sticking at bad times you can use the following: spit, nose grease, olive oil, cooking oil, vaseline, lube... I prefer vaseline. Work slow. That's the key. (And anyone who knows me is probably laughing their butt off hearing me say that) Use a cork, a piece of wood, a bottle cap or anything you can think of to hold the armature and keep your hands off it. There are tons of tutorials out there, but check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/1listSculpting/ on Yahoo Groups. Great place to get a start. Go to the files and start searching for the tutorials. Good luck!
Ichabod Crane
Work slow. That's the key.(And anyone who knows me is probably laughing their butt off hearing me say that) I did laugh. By the grace of God my butt remained "firmly" attached. Jester covered all the good pointers, already. You can also make your own tool out of sewing needles and chop sticks. " " out of small bits of tubing. " " paper clips or other sundry items. " " try asking your dentist for old or broken tools, too. Welcome to the boards, btw. Cerridwyn1st
Can't offer much help on sculpting, but I did get dental tools at the Flea Market for less than $2 per. Pretty cheap, you might try that.
Astonia
To keep the putty from sticking to your tools, water works just as well as oil or vaseline.
myradale
It's as gross as can be, but the best thing to keep putty or greenstuff off your blades is good old fashioned nose sweat.
