These are two copies of the Reaper Bones Large Earth Elemental 77185, sculpted by Kevin Williams.
I saw someone, I can’t recall who, paint up, it might have been one of these, like cooling lava which I thought was lovely, so I wanted to give it a try. I painted the lava version very quickly, in a few sessions: A layer of butter-yellow intensified with yellow glazing, then laying on pure black paint rather thickly, then some washes of Quinacridone Magenta and some fiddling with that and yellow on the gems.
The rock version I painted v-e-r-y slowly, in many layers over time, often with whatever paint was left on my palette from other paintings. I’m not sure when I started it, but since I haven’t painted any minis at all for the last year, it’s been some time.
I thought it interesting how very different a sculpt can look depending on how you paint it.
I am really enjoying Rangers of Shadow Deep as a solo play experience. I am currently painting up the opponents and some rangers for the Across the Wastes adventure.
These are all Reaper, about 50/50 Bones or metal. Lots of drybrushing again. The scorpions are just dark grey spray, washed in black, with drops of 'orc blood" from Green Stuff World used as venom. I also used some foam clay to make rocks for the scorpion bases.
For my Shifting Sands Project I wanted a Casket of Souls / Altar of the Damned.
I scratchbuilt the altar from foam with the help of a Greenstuffworld rollerpin I gave it an Egyptian look.
The bones/skulls are from the Greenstuffworld Crunchplates
Then I added:
The Ghost appearing from the Casket

One unoffending pic ( thx @Rigel)
Statuesque's Pulp Alley line is going away forever, but when I saw this figure I knew it was non-negotiable! There's a recurring character in my Weird West games, a yuan-ti pureblood and snake cultist called Doctor Apophis. I had been using the Deadlands Noir Houngan mini for this, but hoo boy.
The serpentine features, from the smoothed-out ears to the wide-set eyes and fangs! The precision-incised hieroglyphs!
Click for turnaround:
"Farouk, can it be true? Did the ritual succeed?!"
"Your doubt wounds me, Hassan; have you known me to fail in the past?"
<INDEED, I LIVE AGAIN.>
<IS IT NOT WRITTEN ON MY FLESH THAT I SHOULD RETURN? IN IMPERISHABLE WORDS OF THE HIERATIC SCRIPT THAT WILL OUTLAST THE HATED SUN.>
<THOUGH YOU ARE BUT DOGS AND JACKALS, YET YOU WILL SERVE IN THE COMING NIGHT.>
"Aziz, what does he say? I am unfamiliar with this dialect."
"He...he says he is very pleased to meet you and looks forward to working with you, O Farouk!"
(We've seen Aziz and Farouk before.)
