3D Printing General Discussion (merged)

Whooo, printer waited until ten minutes after I went to bed to throw a "heater not heating as expected" error, which is a hard shutdown state for Klipper.  Safety mechanism doing its job and all that.

Looks like I get to do a few things when I get home from work today.  Start with simple things like making sure connectors are in properly then redo the PID tune, and then move onwards to other things if those don't fix it (could be a loose or broken wire in the chains)

Thankfully it wasn't anything absolutely critical on the plate, just a few things I was testing out, but still kind of frustrating that I have to wait to see if I can even work with the Mini-Stealthburner or not (figured might as well see if I can work with the smaller toolhead before fully committing to the idea of building a Salad Fork)

I know of a few people who grabbed one prior to the release of the 8k, general concensus I've seen is that it's decent. You're getting the same basic resolution as a 2k small screen printer like the Mars or original Sonic Mini, but that's negligable for most things, especially if you're printing very large things on it.
Phrozen seems to have better quality control than elgoo and anycubic.

Yah tbh, I'm not worried about the resolution. I'm getting great prints from my mini 4k, if that is what I'd get with the Mighty 4k, Perfectly fine by me. I thought about Elegoo & tbh had my Photon Z not crapped out on me after the lcd upgrade, I almost pulled the trigger on a Elegoo machine, instead I wanted 4k & the Mini was in my ballpark.

So after I posted that post the other day & I got to looking at the specs & such I realized I'd have to upgrade the wash n cure machine as well as yes, you can 3d print without it, buy why? Having the WnC has made 3d printing really fun for me, why change that up by going back to the manual post clean up + it's so much more easier & convenient having that as part of the 3d printing arsenal. I see Phrozen has the Luna, but all it is is the Cure part of the process. Nice size machine but again only 1/2 + it's allot more then I'd like to pay right now. So, I looked at the  ELEGOO Mercury XS Bundle, which has both (& separate machines, that part I'm not to keen about as I like having a all in one) but it's made to fit the Saturn 2 plate, so it'll easily fit the Mighty 4k plate. I think I'd rather use the extra $100 I'd use for a 8k machine & apply that to the Mercury XS instead. At least if I ever decide to fully go 8k, I have the post machine taken care of.

You won't get the same quality prints. It has the same number of pixels covering approximately twice the area, so the details won't be as crisp.

That being said, you'd probably have to look closely to notice the difference.

The Mercury X bundle is the same one I have .  I love not having an all in one because then I don't have to muscle that 7-8 liter tank of alcohol on and off the machine for every print.  (7 liters of isopropyl weighs about 12 lbs)

True it takes a little more space, though the footprint on each machine is actually smaller than that of an all in one since the LED bars don't have to be out of the way of the tank.

However, if you buy it I'd try to be sure to go through Amazon rather than one of the other stores, the wash has a lot of problems with the magnetic impeller. A lot of people (myself included) have had the plastic wheel break  on the hub where it wouldn't tighten down properly, and so the machine would just spin without stiring the alcohol. I mean, it's a simple mechanisim, you wouldn't think there'd be problems, but whatever the plastic is they used to mold the wheel just doesn't seem to have the tensile strength.

Elegoo gave me no problems sending a replacement but it shipped from china so it took weeks to arrive. Also I think the magnets are too strong and if the drive impeller starts dragging against the top of the housing, sometimes the stepper motor they have driving it doesn't have enough torque and enters a jammed state, requiring you to stop and restart the cycle.

Happy with the new nFEP becuse I have noticed a difference, the prints don't stick to it quite as much. Also, there aren't any lines in my prints so that's definitely an improvement. Most of all, there's no leaks which means I installed it correctly even though it's my first time. I don't mind failed prints, except when they're dripping all over the printer.

One thing I've noticed about the nFEP: the resin just slides right off when I'm emptying it. I don't even have to use the scraper anymore to get the last of it out.

So this is Elegoo's new nFEP? would it work on a mars 2 pro? Which one should I get? And I assume I just cut it down to size?

Probably  any brand of nfep works. I'm using a Epax sheet with my Phrozen mini 4k. I just cut the sheet to fit the vat.

Having ywo WnC does help though, one washing, two curing. The Wash is big enough for the Saturn, but having a second Cure lets us spread the prints out.

Is there a free app/software download out there for quickly viewing a sliced file? Obviously you can open it with the slicer but it kinda takes a bit longer then I'd like. What I'd like is just click a sliced file & see a quick snapshot of what that file contains.

thanks
