And even the wash and cure stations cannot get all the way into the cavities. That's why you need to cure the inside, otherwise the resin will eventually swell and crack (at least that's the way I understand it) Generally the swelling and cracking occurs when a model has been hollowed (or at least has hollow sections) with no drain holes. That causes uncured resin to be locked inside those cavities. Eventually enough UV gets to those cavities of uncured resin to cause them to start to cure. As the resin cures it expands slightly, cracking the model, with whatever uncured resin is left seeping out. I’ve printed several large hollowed minis that have had a strong resin smell, even after a lot of cleaning with isopropyl and warm water. So obviously there was still a little bit of resin clinging to the inside somewhere. However, those smells went away over time as the resin eventually cured through UV exposure from light. In those cases, while the model had a resin smell, the models never cracked and it wasn’t so much resin that it was leaking out of the model anywhere. It would have just been a thin layer of uncured resin sticking to an inside surface somewhere.
Corsair
Well, got the Anycubic Kobra Neo up and running. Took a few tries to get the Z axis lined out but now it is happily printing away on it's second project. Got to get several prints made for Reapercon and my RoSD game that I will be running.
haldir
15" build plate, anyone, anyone? For those with more disposable cash than I do, this will be for sale directly from Phrozen on, August 9th, at 10 pm EDT. Price - $1,499.99 Price includes free shipping & 2 bottles of TR300 resin You can add a auto feeder system + it now includes a drip -hanger hook so you can save every drop of resin after printing. As much as I'd like to get a bigger plate Phrozen printer, I'm gonna have to pass on this one, but again people that can, go for it! Can you imagine the size of the wash n cure set for this one? 3
Olaf the Stout
So it’s equivalent to about 4 Saturn 2 build plates side by side? At that point you’re basically in print farm territory. I can fit about 20 humanoid 32mm figured on my Saturn 2. Most consumers won’t need to print 80 humanoid sized minis or 20 large monsters on a single build plate. And fixing a failed print or changing the 57,000 screws on a FEP sheet change would terrify me! 2
TheAuldGrump
Any guesses on upcoming advances? We already have the autofeed for resin. So I am guessing autoleveling and simplified FEP replacement are likely refinements for the next two years. In that order. Olaf the Stout
My quality of life improvements would include: - auto levelling - easy FEP replacement - automated post-processing - cleaning and support removal (some expensive machines already do this) - faster speeds (currently speeds are good, but they can always be better) - air quality improvements - climate control improvements (basically built in heating) Resin that isn’t so brittle, but maintains dimensional accuracy would also be near the top of my list.
Corsair
I am quite amazed at the advances that keep coming along for these machines, both resin and FDM. The new Kobra Neo I'm now running is capable of beautiful work, even with the 4mm nozzle. This is a N scale railroad staion, that is 1:160 ratio.

Better air filters in the machines. Quicker machines. I hope that the FEP part happens. Not sure how much easier autoleveling could get. Better/freeare slicers. Not sure how much more detail we can get on current machines but bigger machines will proably get better. More machines moving to DLP, not because it's 'better' but because it lasts longer?
Cygnwulf
So... much like how the miniatures community has Sir and Sgt Forscale to help other people get an idea how large minis are, several other hobby communities I am in have made it practice to include the berries of musa acuminata var. Cavendish in the photo in order to help the viewer get a sense of scale. However I find this method unreliable, both due to the natural variation in the size of the fruiting bodies, and due to the difficulty in not consuming it first before taking the photo. In order to rectify this, I'm making a case for the use of the imperial scaling berry to replace the fresh ones in an effort to standardize scale across multiple photos. I have used my 3d printer to produce one that will always be the same dimensions (within an acceptiable tolerance due to temperature variations) Edited August 17 by Cygnwulf

Should have included a banana for scale! 😂

Yep, that was one of the first STLs I bought on MMF. Turns out I would have got it as part of the welcome pack when I joined their Patreon months later, but I wasn’t to know at the time. I think it looks awesome.
