Reaper Bones 5 : Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

Twitch made it sound like they may only do ship in translucent... but you can always paint it if you dont want translucent... That means it will be a pass from me. Not confirmed yet, but that comment did not sound promising...

that’s a pity.

Still, I can understand not wanting to make multiple versions of such an expensive specialty item. Even if the production cost us the same for both versions, it introduces a bunch of downstream costs.

Two versions means two orders at the manufacturer, two SKUs to track, two items to have to stock in the warehouse, etc.

Glad  to hear the size isn’t final. It looks way to big to me. The wheels shouldn’t be as tall as man...

Allowing for camera angle/lens distortion those look to be in the 5 foot range for wheels.

Very good for going over just the sort of rough terain that would be prepared ground around a strong point that such weapons would have been intended to breach/reduce.

This looks to me to be a good size for representing a "Heavy" Weapon of this design.

The advantage of a clear ship is windows. Especially if they’re making the fore and aft castles hollow. They won’t have to make different pieces for windows. Or leave blank holes.

I’m down with a ghost ship.

If you have Netflix, go watch the opening scene of The Outlaw King

Ah, YouTube has the perfect 2 minute clip:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wx8X0yDD38

It was real, by the way: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warwolf

Quote

Warwolf at Stirling

When disassembled, the weapon would fill 30 wagons in parts. It reportedly took five master carpenters and forty-nine other labourers at least three months to complete.[1]

A contemporary account of the siege states, "During this business the king had carpenters construct a fearful engine called the loup-de-guerre [sic., War wolf], and this when it threw, brought down the whole wall."

Even before construction could be completed, Scottish soldiers offered surrender, fearing the weapon's potential to destroy the entire castle. Edward sent the truce party back inside the castle, declaring, "You do not deserve any grace, but must surrender to my will."[1] Edward decided to carry on with the siege and witness the destructive power of the weapon. The Warwolf could reportedly accurately hurl rocks weighing as much as three hundred pounds (140 kg) and level a large section of the curtain wall.

Does Bones Black (or I guess whatever the plastic they made the dark chapel from... they stated the ship will be the same plastic as that) take spray primer well?  I know the original bones had issues.

I've never had any problems with Krylon on Bones.

Of course, I always soak and scrub in Simple Green to make sure that all of the mold release agent is gone and I live in a dry climate [Mojave Desert] so there are no issues with humidity to deal with.

They just showed a printed off catapult (size not finalized disclaimer):

Apparently it MIGHT come with two different arms, with different ammo (?)

Im good with that size. If it was custom made for me, it might be about 10-15% smaller, but I can work with that.

Is the arm supposed to bend that far? To my highly untrained eye it looks like it’s about to fail spectacularly.

Am I way off base here?

Gotta love the desert weather. My girlfriend and I always joke about the Mojave and Death Valley when we drive through Beatty.

I am just glad that Ron did state yesterday that there was sci-fi/Chronoscope and the car planned.

He's been saying that for a bit.

Ron just said the Chronoscope expansion isn't even on the next map... (so not until Map 6?)

I thought he said the Chronoscope expansion isn't until later on the next map.  If it's not until Map 6, that's discouraging, because they initially started this project planning on only 5 maps.

I'm getting really discouraged about sci-fi in Bones 5.  In Bones 2, the Chronoscope expansion was revealed before the mid way point, and the first unlock of it was on Day 19 at $1,965,00. In Bones 3, we had the Blackstar Corsairs revealed AND unlocked on day 1, and the Sledgehammer unlocked on day 12 at $1,310,000. And in Bones 4, the Chronoscope expansion was revealed on Day 2 and fully unlocked by Day 12 and 1,210,000.  And here we are at day 17 and $2,031,000 and no sci-fi in sight.

Not going to stop me from backing, because there is stuff I want, but I was really looking forward to some new sci-fi stuff this time.

I may have misheard exactly what he said.  Ron was speaking from off-screen (not the best mic pick-up), and it was Twitch, so I couldn't rewind to make sure I heard it right.

Well, that was one of the biggest trebuchets ever built.  I was was just hoping the Kickstarter siege stuff would be more "normal" sized.  Especially since they all have wheels; things as big as that trebuchet (Warwolf) in the clip, weren't designed to be moved about on wheels; smaller ones were.

But I'm looking at it from a historical perspective.  I guess for Fantasy purposes it's just fine, as you can always get a few trolls or ogres to push it around. ::):

Smaller ones in the real world had to rely on human and oxen power to move them, aim them, and crank things down.

Militaries using this thing have access to ogres and giants and orogs and such.

This is exactly how I feel as well.

Including the part about being an old lead head.^_^

I have to admit Bones Black has helped pushed the overall Bones line up for me. I'm a metal head but with 2 weekly D&D games now, price has become more of a important issue if I don't have what I need for a upcoming game. I still can't stand floppy weapons so that will always be metal but BB does help with that.

Thou I will admit, lately prepainted minis have overtaken my Reaper purchases by a tad bit. Is it a trend for me, who knows. I just buy what is needed for my games.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Reaper ship if it's just in translucent. I've dealt with trans-plastic from Reaper but only as what they've intended them to be (ghosts, spirits, etc etc) & it works out fine. If anything, depending on the price, I might get 2 & just paint one up as a regular ship. Thou, at the FLGS last night I did pre-order the Falling Star Unpainted, so I do have a regular ship already (or will). :B):

This has always been me.  I have thousands of dollars in PPM, mostly things I needed for the games I was running.  I only got into painting mini's 18 months ago, and life has kept me from getting very far.

Baphomet in the KS comments apparently heard it the same way I did.  Sounds like Chronoscope won't be until after Map 5.

When I was just a ReaperCon DM/GM (ie my once a year chance at sitting at table for rpgs) I was stickler to get everything painted for the games. I mean, your at RCon, a Con from a mini company, you better have those minis painted!! Now, there is just not enough time for me to get paint on everything, & I've except that. That & my players don't care either way, they are just there to play the rpg. The minis are just a bonus, but are appreciated.

If I can make it back to RCon next year, I'll still keep to my have everything painted mantra for that Con thou. :winkthumbs:

      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/leagueofinfamy/league-of-infamy

From the team behind hit games Hellboy: The Board Game and Dungeon Saga: The Dwarf’s Kings Quest, League of Infamy is an occasionally co-operative dungeon crawler for up to 5 players, where it pays to commit dastardly deeds and partake in foul thievery – often against your own party.
Join a rogue’s gallery of misfits, ne’er-do-wells and miscreants on a disgraceful mission to kidnap cute little baby Drakons, steal their eggs and viciously wipe out any irritating, goody-goody Elves that try to stop your nefarious schemes.
But it’s not just the Elves you’ll need to keep a wary eye on. Your fellow (mis)adventurers are just as likely to betray you and steal your loot, shove you into harm’s way or just leave you in a dungeon full of unbeatable foes. As they like to say in the League of Infamy – ‘keep your enemies close but keep your friends at knifepoint’.

In the limited edition No Half Measures expansion, you must investigate reports of an ancient form of long-forgotten magic: gastromancy! Deal with halflings as strong as an ogre or tricky traps with toxic poisons. It's not all bad though, because you might come across a tasty pie or two to loot!
In the Kickstarter Exclusive Siren's Wrath expansion, the League is furious that the Trident Realm is messing with one of its most important trade routes... which absolutely won't do! You're sent in to raid the Trident Realm keep and gather as many goods as you can. However, this will be your hardest mission yet, as the Keep Master takes advantage of the aquatic landscape to boost their Defenders.

      About
First Legion 75mm Fantasy "Femmes Fatales" Resin Figure Kits
A new series of provocative 75mm Fantasy Resin Figure Kits, each one beautifully sculpted and cast and a joy to paint.
      Who We Are
First Legion has long been a leading producer of 60mm scale superbly hand painted historical metal and resin figures as well as metal and resin figures kits in various scales. We most recently expanded into 28mm Fantasy miniatures with a huge launch of amazing sculpts that will be coming to retail early next year.   Please visit our websites and social media for more information.
      First Legion Historical
      First Legion Fantasy
      First Legion Facebook
      First Legion Instagram
The theme of the series is "Femmes Fatales", beautiful but dangerous women characters. Whether by force,  guile, or seduction these ladies are not to be fussed with.    There are 7 figures in total, each one more beautiful than the next and ranging in style from Gothic, to far eastern, nomadic, northern, and even an Aztec.   The commonality to them is that they are all stunning models of beautiful, dangerous women.
Those of you who followed our 28mm Fantasy Minis Kickstarter will recognize these figures from the "Femmes Fatales" Core Set.   They were originally sculpted in 75mm scale and reduced in scale to 28mm to be included in that KS as part of our 28mm fantasy series.  We present them here as originally conceived.
Unlike our 28mm KS, which had 170+ models, this KS is purposely very simple and very succinct.    Stunning models at great prices with rewards shipping in just 3 months!
      Pledge Levels
The first 5 Figures listed below are tied to pledge levels with selections to be made in our pledge manager following funding.   The higher the pledge level, but better deal it is on each figure.
Early Bird Pledge Levels are open for the first 27 hours.
      Add-On Sets
The last two are available as an add-ons only, or as part of the "Drop Dead Gorgeous" Pledge Level.  Finally, there are three more that will be optional add-ons tied to stretch goals.
      Resin Figure Kits
All miniatures are produced in high quality resin and provided unpainted and unassembled.
      Mature Audience
The figures below contain some nudity and are not suitable for audiences under 18.
If you are offended by such figures, please stop reading and just move on.   They are purposely designed to be risqué, sexy, dangerous, and above all beautiful.

I’m interested in what people here think of this.
It seems like a great idea, but I’m wondering if there might be some unforeseen drawbacks.

      EDIT: It's live! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oathsworn/oathsworn-burrows-and-badgers-anthro-miniatures-mouse-dog-cat

We love miniatures. We love tabletop games. We love anthropomorphic animals, from Disney's Robin Hood through The Wind in the Willows to Brian Jaques' Redwall books. So we combined the things we love in our Burrows & Badgers tabletop skirmish game and the accompanying range of miniatures. And our Kickstarter backers have already helped us to grow the range to over 100 miniatures - but now it's time to add some more!

      Some miniatures from previous projects...

Why are we making more miniatures?
Because we want more characters for our Burrows & Badgers games – my Freebeast warband needs reinforcements, for a start!
And we know a lot of other people are looking for more anthropomorphic animal miniatures too. A lot of people are playing Burrows & Badgers now, and many of them have asked for Massive Hounds and a Massive Raptor, so we've sculpted them! Some will want to use them for other tabletop or roleplaying games, while others love painting miniatures, and our figures are perfect for that, full of character ready to be brought to life with your paintbrush....
And some people just love collecting miniatures; again, we've made this new set of Burrows & Badgers figures perfect for collectors. They are all single piece models, with integral bases, so there are no fiddly parts to be glued on.
We love making miniatures; we hope you'll love our miniatures too.

      Why we need your help...
We've got 17 new miniatures sculpted, but they need to have moulds made before we can start producing the miniatures. And that's why we need funding; to get the production moulds made, and get the casting process started.

      About the miniatures...
There are other ranges of anthropomorphic animal miniatures out there, but ours are a little different. We didn't want all the races of animals to be the same size. Instead, we've scaled them to each other; so a shrew or a mouse is a very small model, about 20mm tall, and a really big animal like a badger will stand about 50mm tall, for example.
Each sculpted figure shown below has a scale picture with it, showing its height in millimetres. All our models are supplied unpainted.

      The Pledges
We’re keeping it as simple as possible; there’s an ‘All-in’ pledge, which gets you all the new miniatures in this Kickstarter, and any bonus bits that may come along… there’s also a ‘Pick’n’Mix’ Pledge, if you just want to get a few of the new miniatures. For the Pick'n'Mix, just total up the prices of all the miniatures you want, and pledge for that amount. There's a minimum pledge of £10. There's only six of the sculpts shown so far, but expect more to be added regularly... I'll probably add two or three a day!

      ^Minimum of £10

      Pledge Level: The Great £40

      Pledge Level: The Small £64

      Pledge Level: All In £99

      About
-Hi everyone, this time I propose you a Fishing Village:
5 Houses   7 Footbridges  1 Bridge -A few years ago I did something similar for video games
here you can see the video: and I've thought of creating models suitable for 3D printing.
-The models are in scale for 28 mm miniatures and are divided into components to be assembled without glue only joints.
-Doors, windows, nets and winches are printed separately.
-Each house is playable inside, with working doors and on the ground floor there is a fireplace with the pipeline out.
-The prints you see below have been made with an Ender 3, layer 0.2 mm, infill 5%, Pla Geetech white, the models have been designed to have as few supports as possible, I printed them with an overhang of 80 ° -85 °, support Z distance 0,3 mm.
-I highly recommend the use of printers with a print bed of at least 20x20x20 cm (for this scale).
-Paint with cans and acrylic colors.
-Each house needs about 500-800 grams of filament.
-I put hooks scattered on the houses to attach cordage or oil lamps
-I remind you that only digital models will be sent to you, NOT PHISICAL ONES.
      * Good fishing ... *
By removing the base you can have houses for a land village.
