Reaper Bones 5 : Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

If you need a 4-6" square base, you might want to consider picking up a cheap bathroom or kitchen tile from your local home improvement store. I have used them for palettes in the past, and they rarely cost more than $0.50 at that kind of size. (unless you go for a fancy, specialty tile)

Thanks .I have lots of medium and large (2 inch bases), 2 original of the largest rectangle gw monster bases and as mentioned , I made a mold of it so I can make more. Already have 6-7 premade.

What I need are much larger bases.  Normally I end up using plasticard or combine gw bases together

And for colossal stuff, acryllic board.

Right now trying to figure out how to make a base around 9 x 36 inches. And how to get a wood or mdf custom cut recessed showcase base to fit the 9 x 36 one

Custom spider bases: Guys there’s always Litko. (Can’t link to them ...commerce rule.)  But if we work up an order now they’ll have it done long before the spiders ship from China...

@TaleSpinner are you allowed to give spider’s exact ground foot print?

@ksbsnowowl for gridded map rpg purposes is everything always, always on circles?  Does anything ever get assigned a square with rounded off corners? Are rectangles, like a 6x5, ever allowed?

Hummmm don't know if it helps, but around here I have a shop that sells suplies for party dressing... Well I don't know the english term, big fancy (or tacky) banners, ballons, mantlepieces, the kind of thing you found litering weddings and such, they usually carry MDF cut in sizes from 2"-32" since the things are disposable the prices are good, I picked up enough to build myself a pair of buildings for maybe 10 bucks a wile back

https://www.wargamestournaments.com/product/round-bases/  they cut bases and have even larger than 150.

GW has 160 but gw is very overpriced.  i like their bases though.  i use rectangular bases (so squares, etc) so i made a rubber mold of their largest rectangular bases and pour resin to make my own.

Woodworks, Ltd. has large circular wood disks, including 6" and 6½" disks 1/8" thick. (Smaller sizes as well, of course.) I've found them to work great for bases.

I've finally had a chance to sit down and have a good look through the contents of Bones 5. I have to say that I think the content is the best yet. Bones 2-4 were good but a little underwhelming after Bones 1, but this time around I think it's fantastic.

So most all of my RPG mini's are either the old D&D Miniatures line from Hasbro (2003-2010) or the new WizKids offerings from Icons of the Realms and Pathfinder Battles.  Every single one of those minis is on a round base (some of the early Large mini's, until ~2005, were on 40 mm bases), with the notable exception of the old DDM iconics dragons (I forget what they called them).  The Gargantuan White Dragon, Black Dragon, and Blue Dragon, and the Colossal Red dragon (which they actually made on the wrong-size 8" base... It should be 6" to properly fit the game rules of the time).

So I could do squares, but I don't really have a desire to do so.

Funny places hardware stores...they sell large figure bases...but they label them “wall protectors” :upside:  (I have no idea how well they’ll stand up to collisions with doorknobs swung in anger but they’re a good quality base.)

Thanks for that idea, TGP.  I would never have thought to look there, but you are right, that might just work perfectly.

In the same vein, it's really odd that most grocery stores sell dice bags.  They're REALLY expensive, but they do come with a free bottle of Canadian whiskey...

I did know of Litko, and similar acrylic disc manufacturers.  I was just looking at some on eBay last night.  But it will a long while before I'll actually need this base... I think I can wait to order them until 2021.

Back when, we used sections of thin plywood or cut vinyl tile (which can have the advantage of being self adhesive, if you get place and press). Now, if I wanted something of that sort, I would purchase a unfinished wood plaque from a craft store, or a section of raw wood and rout the edges with my Dremel or a palm sized router. Takes a little practice, but nice results. You can also get thin sheets or shapes of PVC at most craft or model railroad stores/suppliers. Not really a question of CAN it be done now, just a question of HOW you want to do it and YOUR skill/craftsmanship level. I have even used transparent glass tiles for basing material (1"x1"x1/2"). For me, preformed plastic bases are a convenience, not a necessity.

Note: if you choose to use glass or smooth ceramic tiles, the best adhesives I have found are the Lok-tite and Gorilla brand 2 part epoxies.

For a recessed base, I would probably just pin a lip onto an existing base. Easier to build up than cut down, IMO.

$1159 to go.

In history: Tunis is reconquered from the Normans, by the Almohad caliphs.

$541. Wow that went quick

In history: Emperor Justinian I recalls Belisarius from Italy to handle the situation in Armenia. He arrives in Upper Mesopotamia and attacks the fortress city of Nisbis. After an unsuccessful siege he ravages the countryside.

As a side note, one of the books in David Drake's "Belisarius Saga" is available as a free download in Baen's free library on their website. There are lots of others there as well, really good reads from top SF/Fantasy authors. Helps pass the time while waiting for an unlock.::D:

Nice looking as a diorama; I’m not sure about the gate piece as a tabletop item with more walls to go with it.

HMMM. Wonder if that will fit the front of my old GW foam "Mighty Fortress" without modding? Oh well. Here goes another $18. Pledge <bump>.

It's really cool.

Not for me unless they include later on some more fortress items. Maybe an entire keep is too much but at least some walls, a tower or two...

Before they announced the ship I was convinced - with that many siege weapons - this KS "big thing" would be a castle.

Ooh, we got another Reaper play set with action figures. ::):

I genuinely don't remember ever seeing pre-made drawbridge terrain.

P.S. Re-reading my post, it sounds much more cynical and sarcastic than it should.

      About
First Legion 75mm Fantasy "Femmes Fatales" Resin Figure Kits
A new series of provocative 75mm Fantasy Resin Figure Kits, each one beautifully sculpted and cast and a joy to paint.
      Who We Are
First Legion has long been a leading producer of 60mm scale superbly hand painted historical metal and resin figures as well as metal and resin figures kits in various scales. We most recently expanded into 28mm Fantasy miniatures with a huge launch of amazing sculpts that will be coming to retail early next year.   Please visit our websites and social media for more information.
      First Legion Historical
      First Legion Fantasy
      First Legion Facebook
      First Legion Instagram
The theme of the series is "Femmes Fatales", beautiful but dangerous women characters. Whether by force,  guile, or seduction these ladies are not to be fussed with.    There are 7 figures in total, each one more beautiful than the next and ranging in style from Gothic, to far eastern, nomadic, northern, and even an Aztec.   The commonality to them is that they are all stunning models of beautiful, dangerous women.
Those of you who followed our 28mm Fantasy Minis Kickstarter will recognize these figures from the "Femmes Fatales" Core Set.   They were originally sculpted in 75mm scale and reduced in scale to 28mm to be included in that KS as part of our 28mm fantasy series.  We present them here as originally conceived.
Unlike our 28mm KS, which had 170+ models, this KS is purposely very simple and very succinct.    Stunning models at great prices with rewards shipping in just 3 months!
      Pledge Levels
The first 5 Figures listed below are tied to pledge levels with selections to be made in our pledge manager following funding.   The higher the pledge level, but better deal it is on each figure.
Early Bird Pledge Levels are open for the first 27 hours.
      Add-On Sets
The last two are available as an add-ons only, or as part of the "Drop Dead Gorgeous" Pledge Level.  Finally, there are three more that will be optional add-ons tied to stretch goals.
      Resin Figure Kits
All miniatures are produced in high quality resin and provided unpainted and unassembled.
      Mature Audience
The figures below contain some nudity and are not suitable for audiences under 18.
If you are offended by such figures, please stop reading and just move on.   They are purposely designed to be risqué, sexy, dangerous, and above all beautiful.

I’m interested in what people here think of this.
It seems like a great idea, but I’m wondering if there might be some unforeseen drawbacks.

      EDIT: It's live! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oathsworn/oathsworn-burrows-and-badgers-anthro-miniatures-mouse-dog-cat

We love miniatures. We love tabletop games. We love anthropomorphic animals, from Disney's Robin Hood through The Wind in the Willows to Brian Jaques' Redwall books. So we combined the things we love in our Burrows & Badgers tabletop skirmish game and the accompanying range of miniatures. And our Kickstarter backers have already helped us to grow the range to over 100 miniatures - but now it's time to add some more!

      Some miniatures from previous projects...

Why are we making more miniatures?
Because we want more characters for our Burrows & Badgers games – my Freebeast warband needs reinforcements, for a start!
And we know a lot of other people are looking for more anthropomorphic animal miniatures too. A lot of people are playing Burrows & Badgers now, and many of them have asked for Massive Hounds and a Massive Raptor, so we've sculpted them! Some will want to use them for other tabletop or roleplaying games, while others love painting miniatures, and our figures are perfect for that, full of character ready to be brought to life with your paintbrush....
And some people just love collecting miniatures; again, we've made this new set of Burrows & Badgers figures perfect for collectors. They are all single piece models, with integral bases, so there are no fiddly parts to be glued on.
We love making miniatures; we hope you'll love our miniatures too.

      Why we need your help...
We've got 17 new miniatures sculpted, but they need to have moulds made before we can start producing the miniatures. And that's why we need funding; to get the production moulds made, and get the casting process started.

      About the miniatures...
There are other ranges of anthropomorphic animal miniatures out there, but ours are a little different. We didn't want all the races of animals to be the same size. Instead, we've scaled them to each other; so a shrew or a mouse is a very small model, about 20mm tall, and a really big animal like a badger will stand about 50mm tall, for example.
Each sculpted figure shown below has a scale picture with it, showing its height in millimetres. All our models are supplied unpainted.

      The Pledges
We’re keeping it as simple as possible; there’s an ‘All-in’ pledge, which gets you all the new miniatures in this Kickstarter, and any bonus bits that may come along… there’s also a ‘Pick’n’Mix’ Pledge, if you just want to get a few of the new miniatures. For the Pick'n'Mix, just total up the prices of all the miniatures you want, and pledge for that amount. There's a minimum pledge of £10. There's only six of the sculpts shown so far, but expect more to be added regularly... I'll probably add two or three a day!

      ^Minimum of £10

      Pledge Level: The Great £40

      Pledge Level: The Small £64

      Pledge Level: All In £99

      About
-Hi everyone, this time I propose you a Fishing Village:
5 Houses   7 Footbridges  1 Bridge -A few years ago I did something similar for video games
here you can see the video: and I've thought of creating models suitable for 3D printing.
-The models are in scale for 28 mm miniatures and are divided into components to be assembled without glue only joints.
-Doors, windows, nets and winches are printed separately.
-Each house is playable inside, with working doors and on the ground floor there is a fireplace with the pipeline out.
-The prints you see below have been made with an Ender 3, layer 0.2 mm, infill 5%, Pla Geetech white, the models have been designed to have as few supports as possible, I printed them with an overhang of 80 ° -85 °, support Z distance 0,3 mm.
-I highly recommend the use of printers with a print bed of at least 20x20x20 cm (for this scale).
-Paint with cans and acrylic colors.
-Each house needs about 500-800 grams of filament.
-I put hooks scattered on the houses to attach cordage or oil lamps
-I remind you that only digital models will be sent to you, NOT PHISICAL ONES.
      * Good fishing ... *
By removing the base you can have houses for a land village.
