Reaper Bones 5 : Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

Recommended Posts

Two small siege engine notes:

1) Historically, ballistae ranged in size from a very large crossbow mounted on a pivoting post to huge monsters capable of breaching a gate.

There was even a type known as a scorpion that could launch medium to large stones at a target.

2) The payload for a trebuchet is loaded into a sling which sits inside the body of the engine until launched.  The physics are fascinating, but I won't go into detail. Basically a very large sling.

I have actually gotten to fire both. ::D:

In another note, historical payloads ranged from large rocks (sieges  breaching walls, and anti formed units) to baskets of smaller rocks (antipersonnel) to dung, diseased corpses, and dead animals (biological attacks) to incendiary, irritating, or poisonous alchemical compounds (chemical attacks). Medieval, classical, and ancient warfare can be a fascinating study, and useful for a GM to know. Imagine the complications when the players return from their successful mission, only to find their base city and questgiver under siege. Delicious!

That comment made me really angry. How can people be so rude? They don't seem to realize, that everything is done by a person.

Plus they are completely oblivious to the History, especially the earlier days, of Role Playing Games.

I personally date from the era when many of our monsters came from the toy dinosaur bin.

There is a Nolzur's unpainted ballista that is barely larger than a medium creature (the stand fits on a 1" base).

I hope these Bones 5 ballista are massive, because no one else sells something like that.

The GW trebuchet is pretty cool.  And they have various ballistae although cant recall if any realistic looking ones.

Lordy, I wish it was photoshop. I upgraded my computer for the first time in about a decade, and I can't run my old copy of Photoshop. I did that in Paint.

Can you put it in an emulation mode to simulate an earlier version that will run Paint?

I'm looking forward to the Greek stuff, no doubt. And although a hekatoncheries would be cool, I'd really love to see someone make a really terrifying creature: the she-dragon, Campe. A snake-haired scorpion-for-a-head, winged giant woman with many-headed snakes for legs, a chest adorned with the baying heads of fifty beasts, and the armor of sea monsters. Her eyes were fire, the snakes of her feet spat venom and her wings could create typhoons.

I mean, that sounds terrifying, right? Lovecraft got nuthin' on the titanomachy.

I’m sure that would be terrifying to see, but it really just sounds ridonkulous and laughable in print.

I guess someone will just have to sculpt one so we can be properly intimidated by it

Less than $10k before we finish out Map 3.

...and hopefully get to see the first part of the Greek Odyssey expansion.

It seams like it is taking forever to get off Map 3 not sure if the speed of map 1 and 2 were just because pledgers were throwing the $120 at the screen as fast as they could to get in an early wave or if the perceived slowness of Map 3 is because less people were interested in Daimyo.

Maybe both:huh: I know they had me interested with part 2, but blew it on 3 (may eventually get it anyway like I did Chronoscope in bones 4)

Hummmm those things on the comic look like mecha-kobolds to me....or cyberratmen... Funny tought... Man im already felling my wallet death troes... And there is what, 2 maps to go?....

Maaaan....

I know im being the minority, but that daimyo pack seems ssweeeet to me, the big boys alone probably will pop you for the whole fifty in retail no?

I kinda lost count, but are the core alone more than 105 minis, not including doodads(the spells, bases, etc)....?? I feel like this is the start of a beautifull frienship...

Okay.

So I only now noticed something.

We’re getting these 3 trolls in the core set:

But at ReaperCon there were 4 trolls on display:

So one of our trolls... Is missing?

@Darsc Zacal it is in the dungeon dweller expansion ;)

Thanks!

Well shoot. That’s not an expansion I’ll likely be getting, so I’ll have to add that to my will buy at retail list.

Yep, sadly that troll got seperated from his pack. Knowing my luck he'll have some sort of packaging problem and will be released to retail dead last (looking at you, Weapon Sprues from Bones 3 )

Archon Studio (LOAD, Vanguard of War, Chronicle X) are branching into modular terrain. The project is now Live:

Apparently it is "full plastic injection" so not the same as their minis. The concept seems interesting, but the preview page is far from finished, so it's hard to get a good grasp on prices (one "Starter Pledge" for $49 is all they currently have listed, along with a $20 add on). The whole magnetized modular wall system looks like it could have potential.

      About
Digital render of the finished sculpts. In the last six or so years I have played a lot of tabletop games, ranging from Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons to smaller games like Frostgrave and Relicblade. I have fallen in love with the hobby of painting miniatures and everything surrounding it. A year ago I made plans to give something back and to add something to this hobby community I love so dearly.
My background in digital game art helped me a lot since I was already familiar with the software to sculpt digitally. So I started working on a few miniatures I would like to produce. Most of them were abandoned in favor of better ideas, but eventually I created this set of three goblins. These goblins are each embodiments of the archetypes found in many of the games I love: the wizard, the fighter and the thief/ranger.
I spent the last year figuring out how to cast resin to the standards I saw in the products I enjoy and how to make sure digitally sculpted details translated well to the tabletop scale.
These three figures are the end result of that progress, but hopefully the start of a lot more.
I made this Kickstarter to cover the costs of the materials used and shipping, but mostly so I can bring these little goblins to your tabletop :)
All miniatures will be multiple parts cast in resin and supplied unpainted, with a 25mm gaming base.
      The final resin casts.

They drag their feet one in front the other, deliberately, slowly. They  crawl out of their resting grounds. Out of the tombs to the fresh air,  slowly, unrestained.
Scylla Models is back presenting you a new range of Villains and Undead monsters for your collection. The models we present you are master casts  white metal (primed white for better result in the pictures), with the only exception of Zuula. She on her Night Terror is our first large monster and we decided to go resin. The results are quite impressive as you might see in the picture.
