Reaper Bones 5 : Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

I don’t know that bones don’t lend themselves to less detail. I’ve gotten some pretty nice results from my bones minis. Not that I’ve painted that many of them <_<

If all of you naysayers raise your pledges by at least $10, I'll put in a good word to the hobby gods on your behalf.

With the new Bones Black they are better than ever.

And even the Grey Bones is more detailed than the white Bones, look at Bones IV.

I'm already at $300, and probably can't go much higher at this time. Going to be adding more in the PM, I'm certain, but I don't have much funds in the bank account at the moment, sadly.

In my experience the early bones did lend themselves to less detail. Several of the models I painted for my NPC thread I'd painted previously in metal. There was a marked difference between the two materials that has nothing to do with the transparency of the material, the softer detail remained after priming, painting, and playing.

Later bones have been better, partially because they're no longer copying old metal sculpts. They're getting into new and unique sculpts that can take full advantage of the material's strengths and weaknesses. Fewer tiny details that look good in metal but fade out into bleh in bones.

I expect if I hadn't painted the exact same minis in metal beforehand I wouldn't have noticed.

Absolutely. I've pledged on Bones I, and after receiving the models I was a bit disappointed on the overall quality; It lacked detail, it was all bent, and... the color, that pure white, was somehow annoying. So I decided to not pledge for Bones II and III.

Then I did so on Bones IV... and it's so much better. Grey bones is so much better, on detail and sturdyness and black bones just another level. And here I'm now, 300$ in Bones V ^^

Okay, missed the numbers. Ended up helping Tommy clean stuff that was salvageable from his apartment. Scarry... Just... Yikes.

Then off to work my shift at the co-op, so I'm gonna miss the rest of the numbers till later this evening.

Love the chart, btw!!

For this Kickstarter I've adopted a different strategy for getting to my final pledge.

I'm raising it by 20% each time, which means over time each increase is a larger amount due to the compounding effect.

I'm just about to pull the trigger on another 20% increase.

Ran the PM, and I'm at almost $458 already. I spent something around $550 on Bones 5, which was my biggest Bones yet. Thank goodness my new job has quarterly bonuses, huh? Shame it doesn't give me the free time to paint while at work anymore, though.

Does anyone know who sculpted this beauty?

I'm in love!

I believe this was the marvellous, mystical, rather sophistical Bob Ridolphi

I'm not happy with the Dread Wolves, I would have wanted them, but they're missing their eyes.

That's a big turn off for me.

dread wolves + blast spell effect eyes (rainbow blast) needs to happen.

Decided to do some prioritizing now that we are a decent way in. After Bones 3 and 4  and moving countries I am a little gun shy on going all in but here are my thoughts so far.

No core at this point but definitely getting the following during break out:

Horned Tinker (1029)

Catablepas

Zombie GIant

Three Headed Troll

Boulderkin

Some other nice sculpts as well. My rule is once I get to 80% cost, I'll go for the hole core. (I'm probably at ¬$40 here)

As for Add-Ons:

Mammoth

Mouslings

Encounter at Gallowgaurd

Greek Expansion

Troll Bridge Encounter

Yokai

Aganzarax

Catapult

Elemental Scions

Not a definitive list depending on what comes and how the budget feels in the moment but I am already about bones 4 level

Whereas the Boulderkin are one of the parts I'm least interested in. I just don't need that many medium earth elementals at once.

Archon Studio (LOAD, Vanguard of War, Chronicle X) are branching into modular terrain. The project is now Live:

Apparently it is "full plastic injection" so not the same as their minis. The concept seems interesting, but the preview page is far from finished, so it's hard to get a good grasp on prices (one "Starter Pledge" for $49 is all they currently have listed, along with a $20 add on). The whole magnetized modular wall system looks like it could have potential.

      About
Digital render of the finished sculpts. In the last six or so years I have played a lot of tabletop games, ranging from Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons to smaller games like Frostgrave and Relicblade. I have fallen in love with the hobby of painting miniatures and everything surrounding it. A year ago I made plans to give something back and to add something to this hobby community I love so dearly.
My background in digital game art helped me a lot since I was already familiar with the software to sculpt digitally. So I started working on a few miniatures I would like to produce. Most of them were abandoned in favor of better ideas, but eventually I created this set of three goblins. These goblins are each embodiments of the archetypes found in many of the games I love: the wizard, the fighter and the thief/ranger.
I spent the last year figuring out how to cast resin to the standards I saw in the products I enjoy and how to make sure digitally sculpted details translated well to the tabletop scale.
These three figures are the end result of that progress, but hopefully the start of a lot more.
I made this Kickstarter to cover the costs of the materials used and shipping, but mostly so I can bring these little goblins to your tabletop :)
All miniatures will be multiple parts cast in resin and supplied unpainted, with a 25mm gaming base.
      The final resin casts.

They drag their feet one in front the other, deliberately, slowly. They  crawl out of their resting grounds. Out of the tombs to the fresh air,  slowly, unrestained.
Scylla Models is back presenting you a new range of Villains and Undead monsters for your collection. The models we present you are master casts  white metal (primed white for better result in the pictures), with the only exception of Zuula. She on her Night Terror is our first large monster and we decided to go resin. The results are quite impressive as you might see in the picture.
