Welcome to Getting to Know You, November 2019 Edition.

The rules as they currently stand ( we all know most of you rebellious lot will ignore most of it, but one can try)

1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.

1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one...

2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
3. Questions are going to be posted between 8:00 hours and 12:00 hours CET. ( Central European Time)
4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me...
5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
7. Weekend questions will usually take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.

All HAIL WOOF!

QUESTION November 1st.

Winter is coming! What are you looking forward to?

Coming?  It is below freezing and I have snow on the ground.  Winter is here!

The fact that all the bugs are dead are will be soon. Especially the flying, stingy varieties. Looking at you, Mr wasp, and Mr hornet.

Also the first snowfall, especially if it happens overnight. It's pretty and everything is peaceful, at least until more people wake up.

To answer my own question...

I hate Winter because of the weather and the dark mornings/evenings.

I get down from driving to work in the dark and returning home in the dark.

But not all is lost.

The thing I look forward to is SPRING! I mean Christmas time, having a few days off spending it with the family.

QUESTION November 1st.

Winter is coming! What are you looking forward to?

I'm rather enjoying the increase in darkness. The sun doesn't ambush me anymore! The gloomy weather is something I find pleasing, the lack of brightness and the colder temperatures mean jacket weather which means I have more pockets. While the current snowfall has covered it, and last year's unnatural greenness til Feb destroyed it, the sight of yellowed corn stalks in the fields under a leaden sky has a desolate beauty to it. Occasionally during heavy snow storms I like to wander around while the saner folk stay indoors, gives me the illusion of having the world to myself for a little while.

I'm not fond of turkey, so Thanksgiving isn't something I look forward to and Christmas tends to put me in a funk, but as a whole I'm looking forward to Winter. If nothing else, I'm slowly able to ease back into painting and the knowledge that this elfed up year is coming to a close soon has brightened my outlook a bit.

Seeing the Tony DiTerlizzi art exhibition tomorrow.

Oh, in actual winter?  My wife’s Christmas Eve lasagna (a tradition we inherited from her grandmother via her uncle).  Snow.  Hopefully not working every single weekend (despite being officially scheduled Monday-Friday).

Wearing my trenchcoat.  It’s the closest I’ll ever get to a billowing cloak.

I live in North Carolina, so snow is both uncommon and glorious.  I’m sure that I wouldn’t be as happy about it if I still lived outside Philadelphia.

Five months of guilt free hobby time in my studio.

And ice fishing.

Each year, I hope that it will be cold enough for long enough to freeze ponds around here deep enough to skate on.  It's been years since that happened, though...

Shrug.  I now live loosely in the Philly area; it's not really cold enough to skate.

In all seriousness, spring. I thrive in warm, sunny weather. Especially when I can be outdoors surrounded by beautiful, green growing things. For the next few months I'll be trapped indoors at a desk for work instead of my normal outdoor job. I'll get in before the sun comes up and won't leave most days until after it goes down. By the time February rolls around I'm going to be a grumpy, whiny, mean old man. So here's to hoping for an early thaw next year so I can ditch this office crap and get back outdoors.

Edit: quoted the wrong post. See, it's already starting. Grrr.

Cool days, sleeping with the window open, and bonfires. ^_^

I really like the dark mornings and early evenings.  Admittedly, they're probably a lot more pleasant when there's no snow or real cold to contend with.

Milestone birthday for my brother (big 40 this year for him), so we're trying to organize a special party for him... which is really hard to do as a surprise when he works 3rd shift, and on the weekends, lots of convincing to get him to take the night off...

Snow to a certain extent, I personally loath shoveling/plowing it, but my chocolate Labrador loves rolling in it and chasing falling flakes. My yellow Labrador has more common sense regarding it.

Building snow sculptures.

Last year the spawn and I built an igloo!   2 days work and it looked more like a dovecote than a traditional iggloo shape.

but finished the full dome, form scratch which was a lot of work.

also, I did a pony-sized unicorn for mini-spawn to play with, and a car - just large enough for two 5 yr olds to drive and then pretend to crash, rolling down the hood or off the back (over and over).

Snow in Denver is often perfect, falls heavy then the temperature climbs to high 30's the next day so the snow is melty.  Yesterday would have been good for building, but I didnt want to exhaust the spawn before trick or treating.
