What's wrong with a ~2000 year old sculpture of Hermanubis?  That's exactly the sort of thing I'd expect to find in the Vatican Museum, other than all the Renaissance art.

Nah, that's Scooby-Doo disguised in the Vatican to hide from the "Ghost of Pope Pius XII".

"I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling protestants!"

What is the worst sculpt you've ever seen?

@donalan9 welcome to the place! Worst sculpt, Zatanna from Heroclix, it had it all, ugly face and figure and a horrible factory paint job tdLTsQV.jpg

I can't remember the manufacturer or find a picture of it but I remember a series of very poor military miniatures that showed zero understanding of human anatomy. The figures had their arms raised above their heads without their shoulders moving. (Try it some time.)

On the other hand I can't decide if this is superb or dreadful:

@paintybeard mentioned figures with raised arms (?) ...this artless critter is a candidate:26B73489-84FF-47CF-AB9F-4E4DE8AB6D5F.thumb.jpeg.9a8a8a45147ba70d31e0dd30bb2e27e2.jpeg

...but the chaos boar is still worse.

While I admit that is not his best sculpt, John Winter deserves some love. That sculpt is to John Winter as "Catwoman" is to Halle Berry: not everything is a success... and that sculpt is set to be discontinued at the end of the month.

John Winter is one of my favorite sculptors, one of the few who do Barsoom/John Carter sculpts. *insert shameless plug for him* His website is also running a sale until the 24th of November...

I agree with @Thoramel: my own sculpting ability is too crummy to label someone else's work as the worst. It might not be to my taste, but it might be to someone's.

The plastic miniatures for CityTech, 2nd edition, included a Nova and Timber Wolf where the arms (which hold the primary weapons for said 'Mechs) were pointed to the ground, like they were powered off.  On the Timber Wolf, the arms were also fused to the legs.

I'm not certain these were the worst sculpts I've seen personally but they're the ones I remember.

To be fair, the nova also had a sculpt where the arms and legs were on the same axis. which was hilariously stupid. (my favorite sculpt of this era)

In that regard, the sculpt was true to the original art.  There were several Clan 'Mechs like that.

At least you have confirmed this is some sort of Barsoomian, is it a Green Martian? but weaponless?  Or is it the Barsoomian cognate of an orangutan or baboon?

Apologies to John Winter wherever you are, maybe they’ll pay you to do a better sculpt of this...

I don't remember any others from that era that shared a single axis.

Almost all first gen clan omimechs were mounted too close to the hip, but they were a second joint, usually with a defined torso twist inbetween the hip and the arm.

the closest I can think of are innersphere mechs where the arm is not really an arm, it's just a tiny missile box that's sitting on the weirdly high hip, like the locust.

I dunno.

I always feel bad picking on sculpts because I don't really feel qualified to judge them, I can barely gap fill with putty let alone make something recognisable with it.

Plus it's hard to tell whether a sculpt is bad or just not to my taste, I don't like "old school" style minis (like the official Frostgrave range for example) but that doesn't mean they're poorly done, they're just different.

I'm clearly farrr too new to this to know of any.

Granted, I've seen some.. erm.. Interesting Interpretations, but I don't know enough to label them 'bad', or even 'mediocre'.

I think I have that Nova. It was a right pain to glue, and I'm REALLY TEMPTED to just drill the gorramn thing straight through, insert a length of straightened paperclip and glue it within an inch of its pewter life, because that thing is.... it's not just a dubious 'Mech design (no, that one can't do a torso turn. Why is that even in its writeup?!), it's one of the more interesting minis I've ever tried to assemble...

Unlike several people here, I do not hold the opinion that I have to be able to design a car to say that a Yugo is ... suboptimal.

Probably my least favorite sculpt that I have personally encountered would have to be GW 40K 2nd edition tyranid warriors.

Michelangelo's sculptures of women... just... wut?

His sculpts of women were okay, usually because you couldn’t see much of their bodies and he was amazing at faces. It was his painting of “women” that are weird, because he always makes them look like men with a couple of oddly shaped lumps on their chests.

I can’t think of any terrible sculpts right now, sorry.

That last, approximately...I am pretty sure it’s a Barsoomian white ape.

As much as I love the game the original Shadows of Brimstone hero minis were awful. I don't know how much of that was lack of experience on the caster's part but they are like mush.

Welcome to the last 2019 instalment of Getting to Know You, December 2019 Edition.

The rules as they currently stand ( ...should you chose to accept them... )

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, are likely chomping at the bit to step in and post one...
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions will typically be posted between  06:00 hours and 09:00 hours CET. (Central European Time UYC +1)***
3.5 (...that is 23:00 to 02:00 hours RST Reaper Standard Time UTC -6)***
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me or one of the other quisitioners.
(But my PM box is stuffed full gimme 2-3 days to clear it out...)
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play.
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to respond (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions will often take the form of two day quests, running Saturday to Sunday.

***CLEARLY I WILL ON OCCASION BEND RULES 3. And 3.5.
