WEEKEND QUESTION and CHALLENGE:

NOVEMBER 2nd and 3rd.

What is your favorite Winter Food?

Challenge: cook/bake and show us!

White chocolate peppermint cheesecake.  It is a massive cheesecake with white chocolate peppermint bits.

My wife makes it every year for Christmas and brings it to her family’s gathering.  There’s no way she’d make it for just us. (Otherwise we’d be eating cheesecake from Christmas until the end of January, and our doctors and pants would hate us.)

I no longer have any food that I associate with Winter. I used to think of Winter/Christmas & my Mom's butter cookies.

The kitchen here is Cap'n John's domain.  I don't get to do my thing there.

Generic answer: soup/stew/chili.

I'll have to get back to you on the challenge, none of those are on the menu for this weekend.

Our diet doesn't change much in different seasons. Less veggies from our garden and more store bought in the winter and spring is all. I just did chicken fried steak last night for the first time in years. Turned out ok. Not sure what's on the menu over the weekend because the commisar general hasn't passed down her orders yet so I don't know if I'm on kp yet or not.

Chili and Chex mix...... Chex mix is mostly around Christmas and is usually all I eat for three days.

Challenge: you WANT me to burn the house down....... Lol seriously neither is on the menu, that I know of for this weekend.

York Peppermint Patties. The craving will hit around the beginning of Dec. As to the challenge, I don't think it would go well...

Also I have consulted Agamenthar the Coffee God, and the Cozy Cult has His blessing so long as tea and Elves are kept within reasonable limits. The Great Pumpkin also approves, and the Elder Mouse just asked if it involved him getting another box of Cheezits.

Pumpkin pies, pumpkin bread, roast turkey, chili, and gingerbread.

Sadly, I will not be participating in the challenge portion.

Much obliged! There will also be hot chocolate, because nothing is quite so cozy as watching winter happen outside while you’re warm indoors with a mug of hot cocoa.

Marshmallows are required :ik_oops:

The regular rotation of food-stuffs does not really change in winter.  I think we need to vary our diet more.  About the only real change is the occasional cup of hot cocoa (sometimes it's even spiked with some peppermint schnapps).

I do more baked dishes, baked chicken or fish, pot pies, pot roast, apple crisp, cobbler, etc.  Not cooking anything this weekend, sorry.   Getting on a plane in >24 hours and there's a lot of last minute flailing around to be done.   Check back with us Americans around the 28th.

I make tea.

I know, that really isn't cooking, but colder weather increases my hot tea consumption exponentially. I am always running around with a mug in hand and generally have a thermos full of refills.  I prefer spicy over sweet/fruity and 98% of the time it has no caffeine.  Current favorite: Dragonfly Earl Grey Rooibos.20191102_104126.jpg

Funny you mentioned spicy tea, I just had tea infused with ginger, black pepper and lemon.

Big pots of hearty soup. And when I say hearty, I mean the spoon doesn't sink since there's so much stuff.

I love eating soup all year long, but summer weather is too warm to fully appreciate it.

In the winter time, you'lI always find in my fridge a big pot of vegetable soup, or butternut squash/carrot/leek/root vegetable soup (that went through the blender). And since I always have plenty of home made chicken/turkey stock, my soup has plenty of extra flavors.

It's also an excuse for me to use and sharpen my good kitchen knives.

P.S. It was my plan to make some even before the question was asked.
