One Page Dungeon Generator

Recommended Posts

It's neat.

But it has some flaws.

Also every time I generate something there's always an adventurer just sitting casually behind secret doors exactly like 5. up there, I don't get it.

Also, scarves. Lots and lots of scarves.

Dunno. Some gold with some gold sounds like my kind of gold.

Anyway, search on "random dungeon generator" for other goodies. Donjon also has other random whatever generators, including inns, taverns, world, towns, campaigns, NPC's...

Honestly I kinda like this one better than Donjon's dungeon generator...

The maps are prettier, at least.

I like the cross hatching.

Is that an old school thing? Grump is the only person I know that does that on real life maps.

I started doing that in 1980 - going from a pencil map to a pencil map that I then ink, and cross hatch - just because it looks better.

Many maps do not make it to that stage - just ones I will be using for a while. (I no longer have the first map I inked - a maze below a barrow.)

Ran across this at Tenkar's Tavern - it produces fairly nice One Page Dungeons.

A sample from their site -

The same web address has a town / city map generator that is pretty cool. I have played with it in the past. Saved off several as screen grabs:

Perhaps?

I don’t remember when I started doing that; my first dungeon didn’t have it on the earliest levels, but eventually (before 1979) did, at least for stone sections internal to the trace:

Later I also started outlining them; a doodled dungeon here from a 1987 notebook:

In both cases, it looks like these were done with my habitual 4-color pen, though mostly using the red, blue, and black.  The green block in the first one is a patch of green slime, but I apparently didn’t think a key was necessary and have no idea what the solid red rectangle in the corridor in the lower center of the first map was supposed to represent...

So, yeah - since we were both gaming in the '70s... I would say that it counts as old school. ::):
