Super Gift Fight II Turbo Championship Edition!(Dec Hobby Goals)

Recommended Posts

So, its that time of the month again. What do you want to work on this month? Do you need it to be ready before "Gifter's Morn?" Or perhaps the Winter solstice? Or maybe it needs the stars to be right so great Chthulu can bring the gift of madness to your loved ones? Here are mine...

--Prepare for endgame of my Swinedimples campaign

--finish main story of Pokemon Shield

--Get gifts for my friends

--find out why kitty is sneezing so much

Aside from general merriment, libations and buying Christmas gifts for people in my life...

...I'm currently working on painting up ALL of the Bones undead miniatures that I have from Bones 1-4 which is a monstrous undertaking (pun intended) but it is for my DND game!! I'm running a new adventure and, having painted up the 4 heroes, they're currently up against a horde of undead which has been unleashed on the world like a plague. I'm using the minion rules from 4th edition that I liked so much.

no idea.

I've been trying to finish my admech army since summer, and I haven't really gotten closer.

I will probably paint one or two minis for a game of rune quest.

I have a pile of other things I meant get done this fall that I should paint

chose some project to do for the captain con paint contest.

I hope to keep up painting at least several times a week, to reduce the backlog and get some of the incomplete minis of my work area. I should be able to finish at least 4.  I was thinking of grabbing a pile of undead and speed painting a bunch during the upcoming break.

I have 2 gift projects:
an Australian Shepard (dog) in a wizards hat & gear, watching sheep in a clear ornament.

- finished the diorama part, trying to attach it inside the globe.

And a small canvas painting as requested by my wife.

- blank canvas purchased

- I am going to try some Bob Ross.  perhaps doing a whole painting with him, then adding in a fantasy element.

3 bones3 figures started for last months binge.

Keeping with my 2019 goals, in December I plan to:

  1. Finish my exchange miniature and mail it off
  2. Paint the last miniature in my annual box
  3. Finish some unfinished minis from the WIP box  (It ended up being three)

Then I plan to refill my annual box for 2020 so the madness can continue for another 12 months

My long term goals for 2019:

Paint all the figures in the annual box ( I am down to none)

Continue my current Rangers of Shadow Deep campaign and perhaps work on two mini campaigns

Paint three entries for miniature painting competitions this year. It has increased to five.

Run a Call of Cthulhu game for my roleplaying group

Paint character minis for all the players in my D&D group. (on track with seven)

Paint a Mithril miniature each month (on track with twelve - AND I have a jump on next year's figure)

Got a lot on the shelf of incompletes; going to use what I can of the break to chew through them.
-Bunch of angels with prismatic and metallic wings--somewhere between mostly and halfway done. Deva, Solar, Angel of Shadows, three from WizKids.
-an Elder Thing, about 40% complete
-airbrush some final bright touchups on the Reaper Dark Young
-finish a Bombshell Jaguar Warrior-lady

Shelf of Shame:
-goblin alchemists
-tortle adventurers
-Pack tortoise (mostly done)
-Tabaxi
-Victorians

Stuff I *might* buy and paint,  bought, because I am a visceral man lacking any self-control:
-more Hydra galacteers
-grungs/frogmen
-Reaper fantasy Scooby-Doo team
-Bloodstone gnomes (as short Lost World Inca-types)
-Pulp Bomber Sophie

Pretty much have a few select, not really well defined goals...

- finish reinforcing one terrain set (probably Neon Lotus)

- Paint Rauthuros!

- Paint CAVs!

- try not to go all giddy with the box of CAVs that's more than likely on the way! (aka get too too distracted by said box)

- assemble, gap fill, and prime another mini or two for hubby!

- work on blocking in colours for my HaqqIslam, as well as hubby's Ariadna

- assemble one box and one blister of Infinity minis (would clear up half the assembly backlog).  Oh, and base / prime them too.

- tidy up desk somewhat so I can still paint!

- Paint a minotaur, I want to see more colour on her, and no more primer!

Pffff...with the stress of getting the finances approved for buying a house/selling the other house, upcoming Christmas Gifts, an aunt's funeral, a few birthdays and a large top secret operation on our airbase, I HOPE I can get some painting time in December.

I will keep my expectations low.

  • Finish the Bones Karkarion Warrior
  • Finish the Lost Kingdoms Tlemiahuatl ( Fire Salamander)

I think ill do a second Bob Ross. the first one was alot of fun. I can give my wife the better one, but not sure what to do with the spare.

Is this a monthly “this is what I plan to get done” thread?  I need to practice some self-accountability, so I’ll give this a try and see how I do.

This year I’m taking the 2 weeks of Christmas and New Years off, so I should have some time.  I plan to:

  1. Prep to run the 2019 Season Finale of my D&D campaign on the 15th, culminating with a big set piece scene featuring Demogorgon
  2. Temporarily assemble my basecoated/washed GF9 Demogorgon for ^^^ (this is a cameo - he’ll be fully painted when they actually get to fight him later.
  3. Finish a Dark Dwarf Pounder and some Dreadmere rafts and boats by tomorrow.  The dwarf will be a key NPC in the campaign (if he doesn’t get killed in 1 above)
  4. Buy the few remaining items on my xmas list
  5. Paint my Secret Sophie mini and send it out before Xmas
  6. Paint a ReaperCon 2019 “Battle” Sophie
  7. Delegate gift wrapping to my daughter and supervise/QC
  8. Paint said daughter’s PC mini that has been basecoated for 6 months
  9. Paint more of the endless horde of Zombicide minis I started on during the TG binge (10/84 done so far)

OK - now that I write it all out, it sounds like a lot!

It's a new year! And with that come new goals.

I've got a short list but need to iron it out a bit before committing.

Since it’s the 2nd of November and nobody has started this topic yet, I will...

My goal this month is to finish enough Prince August home cast figures to stage a skirmish, and then to actually play it.  I came close last month, with a last minute finish on nine figures, but I’ll need several more to field my orcs and such warband.

My secondary goal is to get back to painting more regularly; I started the year at a pace of ~1 tabletop-grade figure per day, but I’ll need to stick to painting if I want to end the year with a pace of half a figure per day.  I’ve been running something about that the past couple of years, which means that, if I were serious about this, I would need to focus a bit more.  For most of the rules I play, a new project would be something like two armies of twelve units each of twelve figures, or a total of about 288 figures.  If I didn’t “butterfly”, that would be about a year and a half of painting, which wouldn’t be so bad if I could actually stay focused on a single project.  The odds against that are very long, of course. I’m currently looking at three new starts  (Classical Greeks in 1/72, Franco-Prussian War in 40mm home cast using vintage molds, and generic horse and musket with imagi-nations in portable 1/72) plus three ongoing projects that could use a fair bit of work (40mm French Revolution, 1/72 scale fantasy—playable but wants two Hordes of the Things armies to fill out the campaign, about 120 figures, and 25mm vintage Tolkien fantasy—for which I undoubtedly already own more figures than will be painted) and several skirmish projects.
