Stargrave in 2021

Saturday we played our December Stargrave campaign game, which we combined with a Christmas party. We had 4 players on a 5'x3' table. The scenario was "Santa's Overgrown Toy Factory", adapting the "The Overgrown Factory" scenario from the rulebook. For the central treasures we had a Red Ryder BB Gun, and a Cymbal Monkey, and the Warbots were Santa Clause robots. All the wandering monsters were replaced with Christmas themed proxies. The players all brought two $5-$10 gifts, and at the end of the game players could exchange their loot tokens for picking presents from the gift pile.

I didn't do too great, only getting one Data Loot off the table, and getting my Hacker killed. All my plans fell apart when two subsequent Unwanted Attention rolls resulted in 4 Pirates appearing on my flank, which, combined with the roving Warbot, made my position untenable.

I’m sorry I was unable to make it.  At least the symptoms all passed off, so I’m fairly sure that it was just a more severe vaccine reaction than I had last time…

Yes, I'm sorry you missed it too; but we all appreciated your being careful.  Glad to hear your symptoms have passed.

I'm sure Norman has told you by now of his amazing victory. 😄

I've been wanting to play this game for a while. Had a not-so-great experience with Frostgrave but the idea of a sci-fi one really makes me smile. Your theme on this is wonderful. LIKE the idea of tokens for gifts.

Yes.  So I was surprised not to see the Reaper ornament-bots on the table…

Have we decided to continue with these crews?

We used the Christmas figures for the Random Bestiary Encounters, and I had the Reaper Bots at the ready, but we never got anything that they could appropriately proxy.

Yes, we are continuing with our crews.

Well you guys hooked me on this. Just ordered the Rulebook, hopefully someone will run it at Reapercon.

If everyone brings their loot tokens and a couple pieces of terrain we should be able to set up a table for pick-up games.

Today we played our February campaign game and did the Starport Raid scenario. We had 4 players, @Rob Dean included,   and used a 5'x3' play area. This proved to be an interesting scenario given the exit across the table exit requirements.

Three of the players decided to cut diagonally across the table, in order to avoid the player directly across from them; but this created a large scrum in the center. Luckily, I decided to do an end run down my left table edge, and avoided most dangers. Unfortunately, I also avoided most of the loot this way as well, but did manage to recover one of the two Central Loot tokens (Data).

Only 2 of the ships took off during the game, but unfortunately 2 of my crewman were caught in the blast, being thrown a few inches and taking a small amount of damage. It was a relatively quiet game from outside interference, with only 3 of the raiding Pirates ever making appearance, and just 2 Creatures appearing (Granted one was a Warbot, but it was far away from me, so was never a concern to my crew. )

Overview of the table.  My crew can be seen entering on the closest table edge.

From behind the cover of a Holographic Wall, my Hacker unlocks a Data Loot token from inside a shipping crate; under the watchful eye of my Captain and Robot Case Cracker.

A view of the large scrum in the middle of the table.  The smoke grenades were flying in every direction!

This was the first outing for my new Holographic Walls, which I made from some holographic duct tape I found at the local dollar tree, wrapped around pieces of foam core.

I mentioned to @Chris Palmer that there was action on this thread when I went to the game yesterday.  While it didn’t end up in his After Action Report, he noted that drones seem to be very useful; my son’s crew has two drone operators, and he gets a lot of mileage out of that.  My drone operator was so busy running this game that she never got one in the air.

This was also my month for guns jamming; the rest of the players were kidding me that my crew had clearly been neglecting maintenance during the two sessions I missed recently.
