Indeed I did sculpt some living pirate crew. They were shown on Reaper Live and were actually on the ship when it was revealed!

They are awesome! I am afraid my budget is going to be doomed!

Twitch made it sound like they may only do ship in translucent... but you can always paint it if you dont want translucent... That means it will be a pass from me. Not confirmed yet, but that comment did not sound promising...

I honestly do not understand that point of view; it is easy enough to use a brown primer over the translucent Bones - and if I were painting a full ship, that would be my starting point anyways, so it would add neither time nor expense to the project.

Army Painter has some very nice brown primers available in rattle cans. I would most likely start with Leather Brown. (Fur Brown would also work, but I prefer the Leather Brown for wood.) And I have always had excellent results using Army Painter spray primers over Bones - even the ones from the Bones I KS.

The Auld Grump - Brown Liner from Reaper would also work - but would need to be applied by hand.

Well, I think the sticking point is that folks are seeing the ship as less useful in a translucent state, right out of the box, than in an opaque state.

I would actually be satisfied with one in a clear translucent, although I would personally be willing to sacrifice the appearance of clear windows for a solid color. A translucent that is not limited by looking like a glowing Scooby-doo cartoon would be fine. And, yes I would certainly paint it whether translucent or solid, but I have a garage with a ventilator, and large fans and the space to airbrush or rattle can. Many folks don't.

They could make it a separate part & have the user install themselves. I know Reaper likes to make idiot-proof minis but something like this they need to do something like this. Make it a "model". If you can't assemble a model, get a cheap plastic kit & learn!!

So much this ^^^^

Reaper is doing an Industry Leading job of promoting the increase of skill levels in painting, sculpting, and all thing related to individual miniatures.

If they are going to expand the line into the direction of things like ships and automobiles and all sorts of things with fiddly bits that make for such imagination expanding set pieces for gaming then it is going to require a similar effort to encourage people to expand their model building skills as well.

I personally come from the perspective of Model Railroading, a hobby which has a history of offering products of all levels of skill to the modeler, from easy to assemble kits, sometimes refered to as "shake the box" all the way up to super-detailed models that involve individual board by board construction in the same fashion as the item being modeled.  My skills have taken a long time to develop but I have progressed from those easy-to-assemble models to the point where I can now make something I'm not ashamed of out of one of those craftsman level kits.  All it takes is the same sort of willingness to learn that so many of our now profesional and semi-professional level painters  and sculptors have developed applied to the model building aspects of this ever expanding hobby.

Something along the lines of the fashions worn by Etcetera Galumbits?

Just a friendly reminder:

After the Kickstarter closes the Reaper Pledge Manager will remain open for several months for your ordering convenience.

>Purple/ off

If they can't drain your wallet during the KS they give you additional opportunities for many months before the order window finally is closed and locked down.

Yay! I finally caught up!  (Now that I’m past my work deadline) I’m pretty excited about the ship. When talking about the size, it reminded me of the USS Constellation which is docked in the harbor in Baltimore (which @Chris Palmer and @Smokestack may know about as they are from Maryland). It is a pretty cool ship.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Constellation_(1854)

As for a name I think it may be fun to call it the RMS (Reaper Miniatures Ship) Bones Mk V.  especially if it ends up being a ghost ship with a skeleton pirate crew.

For Bones 4 I didn’t end up getting dreadmere because I was really turned off by the bonesack. So much so that I didn’t consider the other figures in the set. When it finally came out and I saw how cool all of the figures ended up being I immediately regretted not getting it. I ended up buying it when Reaper put it on their website for $120, almost triple the Kickstarter price. Because of that my wife decided that this go around we’ll just get one of everything (by dividing it up as monthly payments over the life of the pledge manager).

However, @TaleSpinner you did such an amazing job on your spider my wife took one look at it and said, “NOPE! You’re not getting that one. It looks too real and too creepy. I’m not letting you get that and display it.” Hahaha! Well done sir, well done!

I, too, am excited and gitty. Following this thread was so much fun for bones 4. I’m excited to be on the ride again.

Only the most thoroughly urbanized of City People should be in circumstances where they can't find a suitable cardboard box that can be propped up on a trash can outdoors and used as a temporary/makeshift spray box.

Even when in the Navy I was rarely in a situation where a temporary arrangement couldn't be rigged up for a one-shot spray painting hobbying need.

Sadly some of us live in condos, where doing that gets you kicked out thanks to one person overspraying and painting a portion of the back step Chaos Black...

Hence why I'm working towards saving up for a full on airbrush setup for my next birthday...  (yup, I could be buying a new camera, or lenses, but nope, I want my airbrush way more!)

That is my experience as well.

But then I always prime my non-translucent Bones minis, so it could just be that I do not have the same PoV as the poster.

For the record - GW Contrast Paints over translucent bones can be very interesting, as can Minwax. My Shadow Demon turned a rather nice root beer brown when dipped in Minwax Espresso, and a light drybrush with Reaper Burned Metal really brought out the details.

A GW Contrast something-Blue over the translucent Purple Fungi likewise looked pretty good. (I hit it with a Testor's Dull Coat first - but I am not absolutely certain that was required - with the Bones Black, a good scrubbing might have been sufficient.) It goes from Purple to an odd indigo in the crevices.

Just because it starts as one color of translucent does not mean that it has to stay that color.

Condos meet my definition of overly urbanzed living arrangements.

Of course, I'm also the person who is currently making arrangements to move to a nearly 5 acre parcel out in what most people would consider as Rural America but we view as just "barely out in the country", with the state Caital Complex barely 30 minutes away.

They showed it again.  An artist had this on their twitch stream, and Reaper reached out, and plan (hope) to make it into a mini for the Core set.

Oh hey, an accursed soulslinger!

Oh yes, I know. I can be poor for months and months instead of just in one shot! Haha!

      Story
Echoes of Camelot: Arthurian Legends is a project that will expand our 75mm resin miniature range with new and exciting models based on the Matter of Britan, particularly around the figure of King Arthur and his Knights. We have many cool surprises prepared should you help us bring this dream to life.
These miniatures have been sculpted and painted here at the Big Child Creatives studio with the collaboration of some of the most talented miniature artists out there. And what is more, they will be manufactured by our own talented team of resin casting experts. This allows us to monitor the process closely to ensure the best quality in the market and a timely delivery.
We have learned a lot from our previous campaigns, and we want to put all this experience to good use, repeating everything we did right, improving upon it, and correcting our past mistakes. We invite you to join us in this journey of discovery throughout the Matter of Britain and its amazing cast of unique characters.
This campaign is a journey of discovery, full of surprises such as custom bits to make your miniatures even more striking than they already are. Some of these kits will be Kickstarter exclusive, so those of you who choose to support us will be able to proudly show it through unique miniatures, even more full of life and character than our regular releases.

Microworld Games (which I run) has their first Kickstarter ever live:

      https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/microworld-games/6mm-fantasy-crusader-kingdom/

All stretch goals have been met, with a bit less than 2 weeks to go.  I know 6mm fantasy is a bit of a niche within a niche, but thought I would post for anyone interested in element-based mass battle wargaming.  I'm hoping the KS platform enables me to push out more interesting projects a bit quicker.
