Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread ((RPM CLOSES December 1st))

I think the issue is whether or not the Bones version will have the crisp detail that the resin does.  I know Reaper thinks Bones is just as good and their house painters can do a marvelous job with them, but I have handled some that look like they were cast in marshmallow and not plastic.

Oh, that's fair. Some of the basic Bones, especially from Bones I were really soft on detail.

Currently really looking forward to getting the Shadows of Ravenhome and the vampire brides that come with it.

Also, Kalanzar the Wicked. He'll probably be one of the first things I paint up. I need an ancient red dragon on my shelf, and that sculpt is my favorite.

I do this often. I got a second set of villagers in Bones 4, and swapped heads and/or arms on the second set so that no two are identical. I got 2 sets of the dire critters, and gave one set drastically different bases and/or paint schemes, as well as with the wyverns, beast skeletons, griffons, etc. I hate identical duplicates, because it's easier to track multiple models in an encounter if there's some way to differentiate them.

I totally solves this with a KS that had small numbers with blue-tac on that back. They look like fezzes on the minis thou, if you stick em on their head. Included was a small quantity of X ones as well. I use those for boss figures. WIth our current gaming situation at the FLGS (when we are going) this is perfect for the web camera or for people that can see the map/figures. We observe social distancing rules when we game, so everyone is spaced out in a room with me pretty much in the middle.

I'm looking forward to the Sea Giant from Dark Depths. He's got so much character and fun details.  I'm getting two Dark Depths expansions for unit building purposes, so I think I might cut one of the Sea Giants in half to make it a waterline figure.

Also looking forward to doing up a unit Merfolk, and the Brine Goblins... those Goblins look like they'll be a ton of fun to paint.

Brilliant! I need to do this. I have multiple sets of villagers in metal and bones.

That's pretty much my worry, and why there's a preference for Bones Black for such - the knowledge that the details will be crisper due to the material itself.

As for busts, I originally wanted to pick them up because I was one of the voices that wouldn't shut up about busts (I really did want some cheaper but good "entry" ones from Reaper), but none of them truly grab my attention - then again, the ones that keep grabbing my attention are €45 or more (Tiger Soldier from LuxUmbra comes to mind, as does like half of Legendarion's set), so such is not exactly a fair comparison.

But yeah, a Sophie bust would be icing on the cake, to say the least, especially a nice pirate Sophie!

There just wasn't enough in the Dark Depths set that I wanted, but those brine goblins... I'll definitely be getting them later!

Totally makes sense to have Sophie in a Reaper KS!! (her dice don't count!)

I’m still salty that they didn’t do a Sophie bust. It makes no sense!

Agreed.  I KNOW Ron said that Talin got him concept art right around the time the KS ended for a Sophie, but as far as I know we've never seen it or anything else to let us know that this isn't going to be the first bones kickstarter without a Sophie....

Bones 1 was Sophie on the bike (I think she was metal though, not bones, but part of the KS.  Also not re-released with the rest of the Sophies), Bones 2 was Trollslayer Sophie, Bones 3 was Sophie the Sage, Bones 4 was Innkeeper Sophie (haven't seen her released in bones yet?)

Bones 1 Sophie is a nightmare to put together, probably why they didn’t release her. Everyone hates it.

I woulda done the art for a Sophie bust before the KS even happened. Of course, I’ve wanted them to do a Sophie bust for a long time.

I wish they would re-do the Bones 3 librarian sophie.. it didnt translate well into regular bones, and probably should be scaled up some

Maybe when they do a Bones 6, they’ll do an add on which would include the previous Sophie’s re-done for Bones Black, including the biker one and then they could also throw in a pirate Sophie bust. That’d be a very popular add-on, I imagine.

Bones 6...I'm getting saturated, maybe if there are some very very cool minis in there, otherwise this will be my last Bones KS.

Exactly.
I know some people buy lots of duplicates as they have previously indicated in posts, but you’ll notice that much of the same type of stuff keeps coming up as each KS unfolds. So if you just paint what you’ve got and wait, other minis will come along to fill out your variety.

After Bones 4 was delivered, before Bones 5 launched,  I thought to myself that I have so many Bones now, I'll only pick and choose a few things from Bones 5 this time...   Several hundred dollars later invested in 5, and I'm thinking that surely after I get Bones 5 in my hands there will be very little that Bones 6 can have that I would need so I'll just be able to pick and choose...  And I laugh and laugh at the joke... ::P:

      Story
Echoes of Camelot: Arthurian Legends is a project that will expand our 75mm resin miniature range with new and exciting models based on the Matter of Britan, particularly around the figure of King Arthur and his Knights. We have many cool surprises prepared should you help us bring this dream to life.
These miniatures have been sculpted and painted here at the Big Child Creatives studio with the collaboration of some of the most talented miniature artists out there. And what is more, they will be manufactured by our own talented team of resin casting experts. This allows us to monitor the process closely to ensure the best quality in the market and a timely delivery.
We have learned a lot from our previous campaigns, and we want to put all this experience to good use, repeating everything we did right, improving upon it, and correcting our past mistakes. We invite you to join us in this journey of discovery throughout the Matter of Britain and its amazing cast of unique characters.
This campaign is a journey of discovery, full of surprises such as custom bits to make your miniatures even more striking than they already are. Some of these kits will be Kickstarter exclusive, so those of you who choose to support us will be able to proudly show it through unique miniatures, even more full of life and character than our regular releases.

Microworld Games (which I run) has their first Kickstarter ever live:

All stretch goals have been met, with a bit less than 2 weeks to go.  I know 6mm fantasy is a bit of a niche within a niche, but thought I would post for anyone interested in element-based mass battle wargaming.  I'm hoping the KS platform enables me to push out more interesting projects a bit quicker.
