Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

The thought just occurred to me that it is still early enough in the design process that, properly designed sections could be arranged to make a smaller two masted ship that would be suitable for a wider range of encounters that a fully gunned frigate.

Make the center mast section removable with the end sections mating properly at the joint line and you have increased flexibility and satisfy the complaints/misgivings of a lot of the naysayers.

Just my two cents worth.

Welp there goes another chunk o money. I hope the cannon are removable and the gun ports able to be closed.

With sufficient application of a hobby knife, many things may be possible.

We do want a ship, but that might be a bit TOO big. We shall see

I completely agree that this ship is impractically large, but I still want one.  If it had been smaller I'd have wanted two.  It's not a piece of terrain to fit into a setting, it IS the setting.  It's like an entire dungeon in one piece.  I will have to design some scenarios for it, though.

Let's see, 4-5 per gun, with at least 32 guns, plus ship rigged with probably 20 topotters per mast, plus marines, officers, carpenters, cook, ... and 20% more for illness and injuries.

Call it 250 or so.

Frigates were crowded.

You might not want to try to fit all of them on the model. ::D:

Make that about 180-200 or so, because you wouldn't normally crew the guns in both broadsides at the same time.

Oh, wow - I was way off.  Thanks for clearing that up.

I was rounding up from the ~140ish(?) in B4core, scaled up for the higher price.

Even at 140, it’s still a great deal of course.

I have to think that the higher price is partly accounted for in having so many larger minis, and partly in being made from Bones Black:   in the online shop, it looks like regular Bones minis of human size average about US $3.00 and Bones Black minis of the same size about US $3.50 - Bones Black appears to be just a bit more expensive!

That is a terrific idea, and it's clearly going to be a multipart model, so it'd be great if Reaper could pull that off. I wouldn't think it'd require that much additional work.

Thanks.

I already posted my thoughts and observations based on this initial render to the Mini's We'd Like to See thread.

They could also make the parts interlock a little bit smoother than the barge's did. The barge has three chunks, and they each meet at a pretty clear seam. If there was planking on the edges, such that they fit together more like a zipper, they might look better together. Not sure if that's possible, but perhaps.

I recommend Treasure Island, the 1990 version with Charlton Heston and a young Christian Bale and you've never heard of it before now because it's 'too faithful' to the book so critics didn't find it fun or light-hearted or all those things the book isn't.

I have it! ::):

I have a weird feeling that the X Rated Pirates! will also be added, later that night. (I think Pirates has been decided as our Hallowe'en party theme - and Brigid never got to wear her pirate costume... (And is constantly wearing her fairy princess costume - running around, and spreading glitter if she can get her hands on any.... ^_^ I'd be grumpier about it, but she's adorable. ::P: )

I wonder which school of magic she will choose when she gets older?

The Auld Grump - if we can afford two of the ship... I will be happy.

Looking at the size of the ship, I would really expect it to be in the $100 range. Compared to the Barge and the WK ship, it seems likely to be there in the KS. And at least $150 at retail. The idea of having a removable center section is a very good one, as it would make modifying and storing much easier.
