So did they say whether the ship was going to be Bones or Bones Black?  I know they've said the general plan was bigger things in Bones and smaller things in Bones Black, but I can't imagine boiling something as big as that ship... would have to use the bathtub!

And as far as making it sectional, if they plan to divide it into sections horizontally so the upper decks come off to access the lower decks, it would be impractical to then divide it vertically into sections as well.

They haven’t said anything about the material being used.

I’m wondering if the manufacturer they use has a plastic injection machine that will fit something that is almost 3 feet long.

I recommend Treasure Island, the 1990 version with Charlton Heston and a young Christian Bale and you've never heard of it before now because it's 'too faithful' to the book so critics didn't find it fun or light-hearted or all those things the book isn't.

Good luck finding a copy... I really liked that version too.

I take it back... apparently it's only $9 on the big river?? I went looking for it years ago, and the only copies were stupid expensive. Woohoo!!

If people do them I'll still award their badge for it, but I've stopped encouraging people to do them so I cut it off at Ma'al and have been low key since.  This all started to show that Kaladrax wasn't so scary and grew from there, but Kaladrax was a $10 add-on.  Khanjira wasn't expensive either.  But as big pieces get bigger, and pricier, it was clear to me after Ma'al Drakkar that the choice becomes either halfway killing oneself for a decent paintjob, or doing it really sloppy to finish in time.  Ma'al retails at $150 US - that's a big purchase to expend for a small signature jpeg.  I think at this point it's best if people put real time into the big and fancy stuff, make it worth their while.  I expect the pirate ship will be pretty pricey as well.  There's nothing stoppng anyone from painting it as quick as they like, I just don't want to encourage people to burn up their fancy expensive minis for no real gain - or to nearly die trying.  It's a nice ship, take your time and show it some love.

I think we'll see some great works on them.  Not sure how many epic mods though due bones being annoying to cut, etc.

Less than $30,000 to goal now...  Feels like it’s going to o be a long day.  Unless of course Reaper drops some surprise that gives pledging a shot in the arm for the weekend.

I hope they show like Greek part 2 :)

I'm excited about the pirate ship, and I can't say as I've ever really run nautical campaigns. I had a friend who wanted to run one, but it lasted all of a session before imploding. I've got a papercraft airship that I've used as a ship once or twice, but this boat's just too cool not to get, TBH. I'd probably be able to use it far more often than Ma'al Drakar, at least...

A bigger shot in the arm than the ship?!?

While the pirate ship ship was a great surprise reveal; without a price attached, I don’t think it’s generating that much boost as far as pledging goes.

Sanjay

It's been live on Twitch for quite a while, with republication on YouTube a bit later. Since I don't see it yet on YouTube, I suspect somebody might not have thrown the switch to republish.

I concur. 6th rate. But that is about right for the largest ship classic pirates could manage to steal.

Probably a bit big for that, because big crews are hard to beat in a boarding action, so it would take either an action in port or multiple ships. And you would be looking at serious retribution from whatever navy you stole it from as well.

Also, even if you're successful in capturing such a ship, it's hard to find and catch enough merchantmen rapidly enough to satisfy that big a crew. But it matches well with Hollywood pirate movies and would be perfect for an anti-pirate vessel.

And I wants it.

I looked closely for any sign of chase guns and I don’t see any. Chris Lewis might add some. But I checked the stern upper deck and it is all glass and no gunports; I checked the stern either side of the rudder didn’t see anything there; I checked the bows inboard of the anchors and nothing.

I don't know that any are modeled. (That seems to be typical with plastic ships for gaming.) This won't stop me from assuming chasers when I use the ship.

Oh, and stern chasers were often put in the captain's cabin, the windows for which would have been removed when clearing for action. (Glass is both expensive and a major fragmentation hazard, so like virtually everything movable, it was brought below the waterline for a fight.

No, not necessary, but fun.

Which describes all miniatures, frankly. As much as I like miniatures for gaming, they offer no real utility advantages over counters with names (and often stats) written on them. We don't need them, we just want them. :poke:

Welcome to WOOF, we have Bacon!

I'm really excited about the ship.

I already have two barges, will probably resell one.

So I will have an Undead and a Pirate/Conquistadore ship!

I have been looking at the Firelock ships, nice, but overall I think I will prefer this beastie.

The assembly of laser cut wood versus a premade Bones ship is a big issue for me.

Just picked up the Trumpeter 1/200 scale USS Hornet the other weekend, and the lower hull is one piece and it's about 4.5 feet long.  Whether or not Reaper would have access to the same manufacturer in China that Trumpeter uses, obviously I have no idea.  It's certainly going to be an expensive set of molds, that's for sure!  I suspect it'll get broken into quite a few sections.  I seriously doubt it'll be a 'pull out of box and play' option.

So, I dunno what the ship is going to be called on the box, but mine will likely be (when generically named)

Sophie's Chance

because I can absolutely see Sophie being a devotee of Tymora (if in the Forgotten Realms or adjacent), and, for some reason "Sophie's Revenge" just doesn't roll off my tongue.

63.9 hours???

i also dont think the ship will entice many ppl. if it had a cost and a target on the map, then yes.

For the weekend, i hope they show greek 2, but then realized, that may not help much. $50 is already spent by many for the expansion.  showing part 2 may entice more, but a totally new model on the map coming up quick may be more useful.
