Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

In my experience the early bones did lend themselves to less detail. Several of the models I painted for my NPC thread I'd painted previously in metal. There was a marked difference between the two materials that has nothing to do with the transparency of the material, the softer detail remained after priming, painting, and playing.

Later bones have been better, partially because they're no longer copying old metal sculpts. They're getting into new and unique sculpts that can take full advantage of the material's strengths and weaknesses. Fewer tiny details that look good in metal but fade out into bleh in bones.

I expect if I hadn't painted the exact same minis in metal beforehand I wouldn't have noticed.

If you examine them from a foot or so away, you can easily tell the difference between my Bones and Metal NOVA Corp troopers, even without picking them up - the bones detail is definitely softer.  But at a table top distance of 3-4 ft, the only way you can tell is by the bases I have them on.

They are great for warbands, though. I'm a big fan of sets like that. In fact, I think that is one thing this KS is really killing.

boulderkin, undead, cat folk, skeleton pirates, dragonborn, elves - its like a whole SoBH/frostgrave league of minis available.

This can not be emphasized enough for us wargamers!

Agreed.  Just can Reaper please, please, please apply the same idea to Chronoscope?

I really don't get the opposition to a clear translucent ship, TBH. The argument that, if it's not opaque, it just can't be used right out of the box is weird to me. By that logic, they should be dyeing it brown in the manufacture so it's more "usable" right out of the box. If it's translucent, those who want it to be a ghost ship can use it, and those who want it to not be can use it straight out of the box before painting it, and can paint it to be opaque. If it's opaque, it might as well come pre-dyed anyway, since I'm going to have to paint it anyway, and I can't get a ghost ship out of it either way.

It doesn't have to make sense for it to be a reality that can affect sales and profitability, though.  I personally wouldn't mind translucent, even though I don't want translucent, so I would prefer that Reaper release it in whatever material is going to increase their overall retail sales.

My personal preference order would be brown opaque, standard Bones grey opaque, clear translucent, then green translucent, but I'll probably get one no matter what color it's done in.

Sadly doesn't look like a goal tonight :(

sanjay

Yeah but we will be in good shape tomorrow. 2 goals every 3 days is normal for the middle couple weeks. The key is to bank a few thousand extra backers in the middle and let word of mouth spread. It also gives everyone plenty of time to make room in their next paycheck

If all of you naysayers raise your pledges by at least $10, I'll put in a good word to the hobby gods on your behalf.

I thought the hobby gods wouldn't let you back in after what you did on the rug...

I mean, I know it was the booze, but still...

Medium and small elementals are the ones I am MOST likely to use several at a time.

No one of them will do as much damage as a large elemental, but together, for the same CR, they do more.

Most often a large, and then enough medium or small to bring the encounter to the next level up.

Or, they defeat a Large earth elemental, and then, just as they have a round to grin at each other, the broken parts of the elemental all pick themselves up, and then they've got to fight 3 or 4 medium elementals

I'm debating trying to paint the boulderkin as lavamen...

With six in the set you have enough to paint them one at a time, lava bomb after living lava bomb, and track your progress as you improve over the six of them. It'll be good practice for perfecting your technique for painting glowy red things.

Yes please.  Four of us got together to go through the rules (400 pages) for Reality's Edge (proposed miniature descriptions at the link) the author Joseph McGuire has even suggested in various posts that he hoped that a company like Reaper could provide some reasonably costed miniatures for the game.  Early drafts suggested Chronoscope but printed edition does not name any company at all.  While we had lunch we scanned our phones and tablets for miniatures that fit.  The author gives some nice descriptions but I do not see a lot that will meet those descriptions without some amount of kit bashing.

My pledge is standing at $300 right now but I am in at whatever a "good" Chronoscope Expansion will bring and I am sure that would bring more in from the Cyberpunk Miniature Gaming groups.

I also feel a lot of people believe that Reaper is only for D&D but I use many of the figures in wargaming and some even do duel duty as D&D and Wargaming (primarily Frostgrave, Ranger of Shadowdeep and OnePage Rules)

I'm waiting for a few things to happen before I add money.

I want to see what's in the Dark Depth's Expansion ( complete) and I would like to know if they finally decide what material the ship will be and the price on that.

The Spider is a must and I would like to see how the Core Set will be split up for add ons, I like the Giant.

Also..waiting for that Chronoscope thing, I would love an A-Ford!

Okay, Since the Spider is a must I upped to $10 for now.

The sound of gently cascading earth and small gravels is that" first step" eroding under your foot.

The "slippery slope" is beckoning. ::P:

If the boulderkin were just a little puffier, I'd try to paint a couple up as popcorn golems to go with the other halloween guys.

Genius!

I'm at $250. Friend at 300. Keeping mine under 200 doesn't appear woukd happen so had to raise it to 250. As of now I think my total is still under $200 but sure the last 2 weeks will have cool stuff. The 2 sets I want - Greek and depths is already $100 .  Still hoping for some big monster in the next 2 weeks as an add on.

They said a while back there was gonna be a classic monster that has never had a model before. But I don't know if they mean by reaper or anyone.

If by reaper, the catoblepas and eye of the deep fit that.  If anyone, I'm hoping for astral dreadnought.

I hope the next reveal is Greek part 3. So another set gets finished. Can't wait to see what's on Greek part 3.  There has to be something really cool there. The minotaur etc are just teases. That can't be it.

      Hi All!
I happened to come across this project and instantly got sunk into the world of Obsidia.  I thought I would share it here with all the Reaper folks!
I'm sorry for bumping my own post a few times.  After backing this project, I learned that these are first time game creators and they were turned down by some high end famous reviewers at the very last minute due to the COVID situation... Which, in my opinion, is super lame!  I don't see how you cannot do a review unless you actually got the COVID!  I hope that this post gets Obsidia to more people which would bring many hours of fun and enjoyable play!

      1-4 PLAYERS, 90 MINUTES
Players take turns exploring the dark realm of Obsidia by placing terrain tiles to create a dynamic and treacherous landscape. They'll send travelers from their home colonies out to found new towns, battling any enemy players or creatures in their path. Players will also cast spells unique to their colony class in order to gain the advantage. When all of Obsidia’s terrain has been discovered, the class controlling the most towns wins the game.

This is a new project from Heroforge for precolored or prepainted custom minis. It also has an option for those with 3D printers to buy a pack of 10 of their custom minis as STL files.

My name is Bruno and I recently decided to use my (few) graphic skills to design my own waterslide transfers, as I could not manage to get the details on my miniatures right. Especially the parchment, scrolls and purity seals never quite looked as good as I wanted. After sharing some of my work on Reddit and Instagram, I discovered many more miniature hobbyist had this same issue, which lead me to this kickstarter! Besides sharing my own designs, these transfers will be screen printed by industry leading professionals to the highest quality possible.    The first sheet The finished product will be an A5 (210x148 mm) transfer sheet printed in 3 colors: White, Black and Red. The sheet will have hundreds of different designs to give you the most flexibility possible when personalising your mini's. I will regularly add new designs to the sheet, taking into account the backers feedback, until the sheet is full.                      Now while this seems geared to Warhammer 40K at first glance there is going to be a lot that's of more general interest, how many minis have you got with open books, parchments etc that just don't look great when you try and do it yourself?

seems well worth a go, and not bad price wise (if you've ever tried to make your own waterslide stuff)

      Story
I'm Adam Sadler, senior game designer at Blacklist Games, and I love miniatures. They are what got my brother Brady and me into the hobby back when we were teenagers. Whether we’re using them in roleplaying games, board games, or tabletop miniatures games, we love collecting, assembling, painting, and playing with them. While Blacklist Games has published several of our games that feature miniatures, they saw our passion could be used for the creation of a new division that would focus solely on miniatures and allow for company growth in parallel with creating great board games. With everyone at the company excited about the possibility of this new division, here we are to share it with you!
Blacklist Miniatures will focus entirely on producing high quality, highly detailed, pre-assembled plastic miniatures to be used in any type of game. Blacklist Miniatures: Fantasy Series 1, our first miniatures line, is not only a celebration of our love for miniatures, but also of all things fantasy.
With your support, this campaign will not only bring this project to life, but also open the door to other lines of miniatures in various genres and even new games to utilize them!
