Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

Recommended Posts

I  think there might be quite a few folks just waiting who would like to order, but haven't seen anything that says "Get me now!" If you aren't a fantasy player, this is not a good KS so far. I truly hope that when Chrono/sci-fi does get here it does well enough this time to encourage Reaper.

I'm not surprised, as I'm sure Reaper is constantly taking the temperature of the Kickstarter and analyzing it's health.  They didn't get as good at this as they are by not paying attention.  They're constantly learning and adapting.   But, I stand by my belief that as to whether they produce more busts in the future will depend on how these sell overall, not how they did in the past 2 or 3 days.

I know they also used to look at the pledge manager selections to gauge how much people like a particular model.  But honestly, if I can't be bothered to micro manage my pledge totals, I don't think it's unreasonable that many other people are similarly lazy.  Especially people who have backed before.

I know that I'm super excited about a ton of the stuff we've seen, including the busts, but I'm still only at a base core set level.

Partly because I can't be bothered to keep changing my pledge, I'll do it once near the end, and partly because I know the bulk of my contribution will be in the pledge manager over there course of a year.

I think they'll likely open up new audiences to busts, too.  I paint mostly to game with, but at RCon 18, I picked up a blister of that Maiden bust in resin several times and almost bought it, just to try something different.  It was something like $18 in resin, and eventually more gaming minis won out.

At Bones prices, I probably would have picked it up just to try something new.  And at Bones prices, they would be useful for sucking others into the mini painting hobby.

Whether or not I pick it up now really depends on how mad I stay at Reaper over whether or not there is sci-fi stuff in this KS.  If there is no sci-fi stuff, I'll probably avoid buying any Reaper busts just because. Petty, I know, but it's a small way for me to protest.

I agree, sales will be the final arbiter as to if Reaper does more Bones busts in the future.

But I'd wager that the poor funding performance yesterday means we won't likely see any more during the remainder of this KS.

While I have no interest in the released busts, I'd be all over a Sophie bust. It'd be a real shame if a Sophie bust didn't get made due to the poor performance of this lot.

I hope a more focused encounter-style offering* is able to do well, and help Reaper & the target customers find a way to market the SciFi stuff in a way that works well for both sides of the transaction. That might get customers a cohesive warband unit, etc.

*It is merely a guess on my part that an encounter is the only way they might present some SciFi in Bones 5.

If they've been sculpted, we will see them.  Most of what they are showing us has already been sculpted and 3d printed or made into test castings.  A lot of people seem to think Reaper is putting items in this KS based on what they want and if they repeat post a wishlist it will get made.  No,  Reaper decided months ago what they were offering, and they are teasing us to get funding.    Sculptors have been working all summer to produce figures. They are not likely to hold something back, because they plan to get the molds made anyway.

The folks at Reaper will hopefully get the busts to be carried by makers of expensive busts as an itroduction to those folks wanting to try their hands at a bust but not wanting to shell out $50+ to try one as their first effort.

It's always possible Reaper could just have them done in resin by Trenchworks if the sales vs mold cost isnt feasible..

wouldnt they want to redo the sculpt then? there's fine details etc you can do with resin that cahnges how your sculpt would be compared to what they expect from bones.

if the price is very low, fine but if they charge normal busts costs, wouldnt be worth it IMHO.

Just thinking while I sculpt this morning - I'm tempted to make an awesome Dreadmere battlefield with my collection of bones. Baba Yaga's hut, with a road to the troll bridge, crossing the the DDS ruins with scenics upgrades and the stone ritual circle,  and the tree of despair looming. use the boats along the river (the Dreadmere dingy and the new small boat). maybe another lower area with crypt stuff - it is enough for a complete & grim environment...

Seems like a great opportunity for the display level game board I've been wanting to complete.

That ghoul crypt terrain looks downright amazing. No chance I'll pass that up. I'm definitely coming around on the Bones terrain.

Not necessarily.

While it's true that Reaper does have a good idea of what the majority of the KS contents are, backers and fans have driven content before.  That's how we got the Anhurians and several other things like the Froghemoth - especially if the sculpts already exist in metal.

And Reaper has held back sculpts before - I can't think of any Bones specific ones, but things like Cadirith and NOVA Corp troopers sat around as a green for a long time before they ever made it to production.   With the production costs of Bones, it may be cheaper to eat the cost of the sculpt for awhile than to forge ahead with production of the mold if it looks like the return will be a bust (pun not intentional)

The one thing I can say with certainty is that in 9 days, we'll know everything that is going to be released during the Kickstarter, and all questions about "what's coming next?" will be answered!*

*Of course there's always the possibility of more things we have no idea about being released in the Pledge Manager after the KS ends. But let's not worry about that just yet. ::):

Ron did allude to the idea that Siege engine crews would not be in the KS, but could end up in the PM at some point.

I would be all over that.  I'm planning to get 3 of each revealed siege engine so far.

Ron also mentioned the voiced desire for non-human townsfolk in yesterdays twitch stream.  It will be interesting to see if they remember the calls for non-human siege crews as well.  Humans, Dwarves, and either Orcs or Hobgoblins would all fit thematically with siege engine use (compared to elves, which typically would not in most fantasy treatments, for example).

      Story
Depending on the amount of orders received for each project, delivery dates might vary. The initial shipment dates indicated are not final, and even though we're committed to giving all our customers the best service we can, sometimes the amount of orders received might make the final shipment date vary compared to our initial estimates. Please keep this possibility in mind before placing your order.
Regarding both the bundles and the stretch goals described above, no swaps of model of any kind are allowed. Therefore, please don’t ask us to swap any stretch goal with other add-ons or any perk models with other miniatures, because that cannot be done.
We created something for those who like to not take themselves too seriously, for those who would like to relax while painting - with less details, but by no means not enough of them - for those who love their minis with a side dose of cuteness overload and, finally, for those who might have children to introduce to miniature gaming, by giving all of these people something that players will love (or hate, as the case may be) no matter their age!
Wait a minute… delivery estimated after only two week after the campaign ends? A Greebo campaign?!
Oh yes, and here’s why: because we’ve started production already! We’re convinced that we can reach the campaign goal, at the least, and that’s why we started the manufacturing process of everything. Therefore, the second you complete your Pledge Manager (let us remind all of you, if you don’t complete it, there will be no shipment, so do it!) your package will be processed and sent, just like that.
We want to open and close this campaign in record time, and we’re confident that we can do it!

Kobolds Vs. Goblins is a game designed, tested, built and played by my son Max and me (You saw him in the video).  The concept was something we came up with for a contest on The Game Crafter using roll & write mechanics.  What we ended up making was a fast and fun game that can be played by people of any age.  It's quick and easy to learn and setup is as easy as opening the box.
Max and I decided that people shouldn't be forced to buy our game just to play it.  So, you are free to download the full color print and play version of the game using this link.   FREE PRINT AND PLAY  (including solo mode) You'll need 6 normal D6 dice and something to mark the paper.  (For prototyping, we used clear cubes, but pencil with eraser will work also)

I'll admit... I have no idea how those of you who share KS from others include all the details and fancy stuff. I clearly didn't do this correctly. Munchkin Metropolis traditionally does woodcrafting, and I've been very satisfied with the quality and production time that's come from my prior interactions with him. Figured I'd try and get the word out about his current KS, which he developed with his son.

      A message from Secret Weapon:

      Big news time everyone!
As many of our pledgers know, we need to adjust the Kickstarter - On the positive, we have a good amount of backers and we know that MANY of you are waiting to up your pledges. We have had a really positive response to the product itself, and lots of interest on the customer and retail side. We deeply appreciate this and your support.
BUT - we have a good amount of backers who are opting to wait on their $1 pledge. This is entirely our fault. We caused this when we locked our core offering behind stretch goals. There is no single item that is core. ALL the options are core. We made it so that many of you had to wait around to buy what you already knew they wanted.
That's a big boo boo, but it was made with the best of intentions. The system was set up so that there was no mandatory amount, and you added what you wanted and nothing more. We thought that this was better for the customer, but it quickly became obvious the vast majority of backers want jump-in points at set amounts like a usual KS... and weren't entirely sure about a pledge manager that was open during the campaign.
So, what are we going to do to fix this for you?
We are going to close the campaign, and relaunch it next week. That sucks and it's embarrassing. But ultimately everything else that happens is great for EVERYONE, because this is what happens next:
1.) ALL themes will be shown and unlocked right off the bat. If you want Urban Streets or Infinity, you just go get it, no hoops or delays to choosing what you want. You also know exactly what is on offer.
2.) There will be pledge levels: $50(+), $100(+) and $200(+). The 100 dollar + level will include a set of 3 weathering pigments (really really good ones too - Burning Sands, Dark Earth, and Rust Orange), and the 200 dollar + level will be the pigment set, and a set of 3 genuinely awesome paints. Secret Weapon's Rubber Highlight, Rubber and Tire Black, our most popular colors! At the end of the campaign you will use the Pledge Manager, as usual, to make whatever specific choices you want based on your KS pledge. The Pledge Manger will be available during the campaign for those that would like help figuring out a total pledge level, but that is optional, and you can wait until the end of the campaign to sign up.
3.) Each of the $50(+), $100(+) and $200(+) pledge levels will have 3 shipping zone options
      Americas, Europe (NOT UK)
      AU, NZ, Asia, Pacific
      United Kingdom (NOT Europe)
4.) Any extra themes that are developed during the course of the KS will be added immediately, no stretch, we just give you the option as soon as it is available.
There will be 17 themes live at the time of launch, which doesn't count the licensed product from Corvus Belli and CMON Zombiecide.
