Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

Recommended Posts

I pre-ordered the Unpainted Falling Star at my FLGS, I could care less if there is a Reaper ship now. I do like what Reaper offers in the KS & I'm sure I'd regret not getting it when it hits retail, so I'll probably still go in on it if does make this KS, or any other KS (a Ship only KS is a fantastic idea. Base the stretch goals around it.).

Assemble vs No Assembly required: I know my way around superglue. Just give me a mini that doesn't look like Frankenstein's monster if pre-assembled.

I'm good with static pawns AND dynamic poses, but I like the variety. For a bunch of townsfolk I'm fine with everyone standing around. They don't need to be doing jazz hands in the background.

And just for the record, I'm the same way:  I like the variety - both static and dynamic poses are great in my book.  I think some of the folks who talked about the "static" poses for those townsfolk did say they'd have been happier if there were a mix of both in that set, to be fair.

And, to me, it seems appropriate in the townsfolk and other such non-combat NPCs if some are in passive, non-dynamic poses:  you sort of expect that for background characters like those.  I think someone could be forgiven for complaining, if we were talking about a set of static, flat, boring player-character minis, as those are the characters who should really stand out from the crowd!

I feel like this KS has been a roller coaster with a great start, slow developement at the end of the first week and all second week, then another high with Greek and... really, really slow since then. Weird management.

I don't think it's that unusual for how the past three Reaper KS have gone.   A lot can happen in the last 48 hours.

"I have a theory, ahem,  all Reaper Kickstarters are fast at one end, much much slower in the middle, and then fast again at the other end".   (Or are you all too young for a reference like that? ::P:

Agreed.  The djinn had some pretty bad gaps (as shown by others), same with the rock troll.  Rock troll also required a decent amount of work to be brought to a paintable state, thanks to those gaps and a chunk missing out of his side...

If a mini does need assembling, I like how Reaper has done it with most of their bones minis in the past - nice thick, chunky keyed parts, so you can quickly and easily put it all together, and they're designed in a way that offers an almost seamless setup once the glue cures.

back to bones.  looks like we should unlock the next goal tonight. Hopefully, they show us greek 3 along with 1 more thing after that (with a price) so people can start to add funds for it. would help IMHO if ppl know what stuff will cost.

And I agree completely about the complaining and dogging on the minis that people don't like.  I think it's fair enough to talk up the minis for those who don't like them - they don't have to agree, but positive comments about unpopular minis - or just minis That One Guy doesn't like, are harmless.  Sadly, a few people take both sides of the equation pretty seriously - even constructive criticism can seem like an attack to some people, while saying something nice about something someone doesn't like can be fighting words for other people.  Whatever the case, constructive criticism and positive comments are OK in my book, while trash-talking the Kickstarter and models is just poor form!

So much of this hobby boils down to personal taste. I'm not gaming (RPG or Wargame) so I paint whatever I want, it's all down to curb appeal. I can understand somewhat though, for folks who have a dedicated army/campaign going.

I can't be the only one who would totally back a Chronoscope "Option" that consisted of several stuffy Edwardian rich folks and household staff, Old Dark House style, wielding candlesticks, lead pipes, dagger, revolver, rope, and pipewrench... plus a body.  Can I?

But that's not "in the middle", we are four days from the end :(

Do you think it's really possible to unlock at the very least what we know is coming? 4 tiers from 3 different expansions, 2 dragons, at the very least another encounter AND the ship, AND everything they will throw inbetween, small add-ons. It's about 40K each unlock!

I hope you are right, though.

Historically, has Reaper been more of a company for hobbyists that has only recently started to attract more gamers through the introduction of cheap, plastic minis?

It's interesting how varied folks needs are here.

yeah it is.  IIRC, the last 3 days of Bones 3 and 4, were around 650K-1 million...

I haven't a CLUE as to who else would be a backer for this.

I just know that I'm GAME for such a well themed group.

We will see, once the reminder notices start hitting the inboxes of people who haven't been following along but have expressed an interest in being notified.

reaper models are really an alternate for D&D models. yes, SOME people use them for other things, but lets not kid ourselves.  outside of outliers, they survive based on models that fit for D&D.

If a company like GF9, who makes official unpainted high quality plastic and resin models for D&D could make a ton more for cheaper, a company like reaper could be in trouble.  Luckily, reapers quality is better than wizkids, so i dont think nolzurs has really hurt them.  probably complimented them.

      Story
Depending on the amount of orders received for each project, delivery dates might vary. The initial shipment dates indicated are not final, and even though we're committed to giving all our customers the best service we can, sometimes the amount of orders received might make the final shipment date vary compared to our initial estimates. Please keep this possibility in mind before placing your order.
Regarding both the bundles and the stretch goals described above, no swaps of model of any kind are allowed. Therefore, please don’t ask us to swap any stretch goal with other add-ons or any perk models with other miniatures, because that cannot be done.
We created something for those who like to not take themselves too seriously, for those who would like to relax while painting - with less details, but by no means not enough of them - for those who love their minis with a side dose of cuteness overload and, finally, for those who might have children to introduce to miniature gaming, by giving all of these people something that players will love (or hate, as the case may be) no matter their age!
Wait a minute… delivery estimated after only two week after the campaign ends? A Greebo campaign?!
Oh yes, and here’s why: because we’ve started production already! We’re convinced that we can reach the campaign goal, at the least, and that’s why we started the manufacturing process of everything. Therefore, the second you complete your Pledge Manager (let us remind all of you, if you don’t complete it, there will be no shipment, so do it!) your package will be processed and sent, just like that.
We want to open and close this campaign in record time, and we’re confident that we can do it!

Kobolds Vs. Goblins is a game designed, tested, built and played by my son Max and me (You saw him in the video).  The concept was something we came up with for a contest on The Game Crafter using roll & write mechanics.  What we ended up making was a fast and fun game that can be played by people of any age.  It's quick and easy to learn and setup is as easy as opening the box.
Max and I decided that people shouldn't be forced to buy our game just to play it.  So, you are free to download the full color print and play version of the game using this link.   FREE PRINT AND PLAY  (including solo mode) You'll need 6 normal D6 dice and something to mark the paper.  (For prototyping, we used clear cubes, but pencil with eraser will work also)

I'll admit... I have no idea how those of you who share KS from others include all the details and fancy stuff. I clearly didn't do this correctly. Munchkin Metropolis traditionally does woodcrafting, and I've been very satisfied with the quality and production time that's come from my prior interactions with him. Figured I'd try and get the word out about his current KS, which he developed with his son.

      A message from Secret Weapon:

      Big news time everyone!
As many of our pledgers know, we need to adjust the Kickstarter - On the positive, we have a good amount of backers and we know that MANY of you are waiting to up your pledges. We have had a really positive response to the product itself, and lots of interest on the customer and retail side. We deeply appreciate this and your support.
BUT - we have a good amount of backers who are opting to wait on their $1 pledge. This is entirely our fault. We caused this when we locked our core offering behind stretch goals. There is no single item that is core. ALL the options are core. We made it so that many of you had to wait around to buy what you already knew they wanted.
That's a big boo boo, but it was made with the best of intentions. The system was set up so that there was no mandatory amount, and you added what you wanted and nothing more. We thought that this was better for the customer, but it quickly became obvious the vast majority of backers want jump-in points at set amounts like a usual KS... and weren't entirely sure about a pledge manager that was open during the campaign.
So, what are we going to do to fix this for you?
We are going to close the campaign, and relaunch it next week. That sucks and it's embarrassing. But ultimately everything else that happens is great for EVERYONE, because this is what happens next:
1.) ALL themes will be shown and unlocked right off the bat. If you want Urban Streets or Infinity, you just go get it, no hoops or delays to choosing what you want. You also know exactly what is on offer.
2.) There will be pledge levels: $50(+), $100(+) and $200(+). The 100 dollar + level will include a set of 3 weathering pigments (really really good ones too - Burning Sands, Dark Earth, and Rust Orange), and the 200 dollar + level will be the pigment set, and a set of 3 genuinely awesome paints. Secret Weapon's Rubber Highlight, Rubber and Tire Black, our most popular colors! At the end of the campaign you will use the Pledge Manager, as usual, to make whatever specific choices you want based on your KS pledge. The Pledge Manger will be available during the campaign for those that would like help figuring out a total pledge level, but that is optional, and you can wait until the end of the campaign to sign up.
3.) Each of the $50(+), $100(+) and $200(+) pledge levels will have 3 shipping zone options
      Americas, Europe (NOT UK)
      AU, NZ, Asia, Pacific
      United Kingdom (NOT Europe)
4.) Any extra themes that are developed during the course of the KS will be added immediately, no stretch, we just give you the option as soon as it is available.
There will be 17 themes live at the time of launch, which doesn't count the licensed product from Corvus Belli and CMON Zombiecide.
