the bane of metal minis.  having to cut off broccoli bases *shudder*

while im still a bit sad on greek part 3, overall, it may be the best overall value for any of their expansions ever.  Cant wait to work on the cloud giant and bronze golem.

the ship is cool. happy for all those getting it :)

Not my experience at all, and I've been playing miniatures wargames for more than 40 years. Proxies are very common, and while it can be a bit confusing at times, with good will by the players I've never seen it be game-breaking. And I've also seen (and used) empty bases when the minis aren't painted yet.

Miniatures are just pretty markers.

If the vendor is a major part of the store's business (see GW or WotC, particularly), it's not that difficult to go direct. It's likely for any store that will still be around in six months that getting to minimum retail order quantities isn't going to be all that difficult. But for a line that sells (say) $50/week, and there are lots of those in a retail game store, even a very successful game store, it's much harder. And that's without considering special orders. The difference in convenience between spending an hour with your distributor rep once a week and spending 10 minutes on the phone with each of 30 different manufacturers is significant.

And then those calls are going to be made at a time when the store is open, so interruptions from customers are going to happen all the time as well, which is much more manageable with one call than with a couple of dozen.

Too bad those distributors are ... not better at their jobs. (Talk to me some time if you want stories.)

My FLGS, seems to have a sour opinion of Reaper. They stopped carrying their line of paints, and have only a single bones black figure, because the owner told me the BB figures are the same sculps as the original bones figures. I gather it has to do with their distributor.

Thinking about Reaper Live,

i have to commend both Jon and Dave, they have done a really good job on the show. Justin has been the stability. Ed has never seemed really comfortable on there and Ron is just out there.

This is not true. No Original Bones figures have been converted to Bones Black. The molds used are totally different as it is a different material.

Okay, in honor of @Crowley we need a dire hamster with a lightsaber in one paw and a coffee cup in the other!

my years playing warhammer and watching weekly 40K matches by friends, about 2001-2011, GW stores dont let non gw models.  you can proxy GW models if you modify them etc (ie. modify an elf tolook like a dark elf), but even that is within reason (like my previous example of using Ang'grath as a regular BT wont work). Now, if the player at a store is fine with that. great. at a GW tournament certainly wont work.

its not just that ang'grath is much larger but ifits 40K, he represents a unique character in 40K for games of apocalypse as well.

Mods are fine but even tournament rules list that the mods must not change certain aspects of the model.  you cant put a hero on a towering base so it can now see over everything. if you do that, and they allow it, you still have to measure from the ground height. were the model would be standing, if it was on a regular base.

But easily enough, they can (and will) ask you to remove it and replace it with a more reasonable model.

There may be some confusion because some figures from Bones 4 were made in Bones Black about which nobody knew at the time. So one might assume (incorrectly, for the reasons you mention) that they were Bones and then Bones Black, even though they were BB from the beginning.

Among the many reasons I won't play a GW game or at a GW store.

For a tournament in a game I will play, I would expect painted models, and generally pretty close to what they should be. But for any other purpose, meh, whatever, so long as I think you're making an effort.

I think it also because they started making Original Bones in a grey color instead of white.

For those looking at the size of the ship, I did a rough estimate of overall dimensions based on the renders and the provided scale, and compared those to the Falling Star by WizKids. It is going to be HUGE.

I also did an overlay of a picture of someone holding a WizKid ship versus a Reaper estimate...
