Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

I think that sounds about right, Nunae!  Certainly, based on the fulfillment shipping from the Kickstarters in the past, most of the orders seemed to go to the U.S., followed by Canada and the UK, and then perhaps Latin America.  Still though, Europe and Asia were hardly backing with an insignificant amount of pledges:  I recall being surprised more than once by how much the total could climb overnight, and it seems like many goals that the western hemisphere had barely touched at the end of the night would get pushed over the top thanks to the ROW!  :)

As for the expansions:

I might be remembering things wrong, but I think that the last Kickstarter ran one expansion at a time without much - if any - overlap between them, and the way the maps look so far, I suppose that'll be the case this time.  No reason it HAS to be that way, though:  I think the first couple Kickstarters did run the expansions side-by-side.  I don't know if Reaper has any advantage in running it one way vs. the other, and they do seem to have tried things a little different in every Kickstarter to see what happens....

Good morning everybody!  East coast USA waking up now.   Coffee is on.  Looks like we had a good  night!    Unlocked the wolf and the witch & bases, and lots of new backers! Just a few more to go to reach the 10,000 mark, which I believe is the trigger for the Dire Cabbage!

Let's see if we can ramp up the enthusiasm again for day 2!.

Today would be a good day to get the word out on any gaming related forums, blogs, or other social media you belong to!

While expecting a single person to take care of everything at all hours is crazy talk, it wouldn't have been a bad idea to have a team member work 2nd shift on the first day.  I.e. come in at 3pm, spend a few hours getting caught up, and then be in charge of updates/comments for the (US) evening.

I'm of two minds about it (ie I agree with both points). Yes Bryan posted at all hours and kept the unlock excitement constant, but it wrecked him for the entire month.

I think the best compromise would be to post a few extra goals before turning in for the night; they greatly underestimated the growth that would happen during the ROW day!

I always thought he was wrecked from stress so did stuff because he was awake anyway...

I think what you suggest makes sense.

Judging from the Map being reminiscent of Feudal Japan I am willing to bet we will see all the samurai figures first. ...I'd imagine the Greek one will be towards the end as there were lots of big figures that fit that theme.

What are we betting?

I saw the map scene as well and thought it was a good indicator to expect more Eastern Myth guys that we saw at ReaperCon.  I'm not sure if there was enough to be an expansion on its own, or there's a lot unshown.

On that note, for my partner who aims for more cutesy things like the Mouslings, I showed her the Yokai.  "Oh, you don't need to get those for me.  They're cute but I don't know if I'll ever paint them."  Then I saw the Kappa Bard for myself and knew it was happening anyway.

It is strange that won't even be the first Sumo Frog I have.

Just shutting down for the night does seem an odd way to handle a project with orders worth well over $1 million in 24 hours, perhaps it might have been worth investing in an extra person to cover the overnight shift; but then who knows what the overall margins are.  Perhaps the huge increase over Bones IV Day 1 caught everyone on the hop and they needed time to rethink, or perhaps at this stage they really know what they are doing and are saving the overtime for those mid-campaign doldrums, rather than overegging the initial gush of enthusiasm. Either way I am glad that Reaper is the kind of company who doesn't expect existing staff to be on for 24 hours in order to firefight.

Campaignwise, my only gripe is the Catoblepas being in the Core, I was trying to avoid pledging for the Core this time out and that's the previewed mini I wanted most of all!  We'll see how the Core gets carved up, but make no mistake I'm having that ugly lump of weirdness. I thought I was out, and they dragged me back in...

Dungeon Dwellers is a superb expansion, just one high-quality mini after another. If you were starting out in the Fantasy RPG game, the combo of the Core and DD would set you up perfectly: main character classes and races (and catfolk!), rats, wolves, kobolds, goblins, orcs, undead, trolls, an ogre, dragons, sundry weirdos - practically the whole Keep on the Borderlands if we get any gnolls! - it's great planning, and the sculpt quality seems well above the earlier Bones versions.  Sadly, as with many here, I now have so much of this kind of stuff in Bones that DD may not be worth $50 to me (even at about $1 a mini!): but then I don't think it's meant for me.  Do love those orcs, though ($1 a mini!).

On the extras front, the Troll Bridge set, both Dragons, the townsfolk, the Mammoth and the Fire Giant are already singing loudly to me.  As I also have a load of Classical-themed minis from the Mythos Pantheon KS a few years back, and I've never cared much for the aquatic-themed adventures, It seems likely that Add-Ons is where my money is going this time.  But we'll see!

I really doubt they were expecting $1M on day one. And while having someone to cover overnights would probably be good, especially for the first day or two, I'm glad Reaper is doing better about having a work/life balance, so as not to burn out their people. Cause that sucks.

Skipped about 30 pages. Couldn't keep up with the twitch stream (7 hours?!?) and here, and try to study. Though, let's be fair, I didn't really study last night.

Looking forward to seeing the witch, and whatever else gets revealed when @Reaper Ron finally rolls out of bed. *waves official poking stick around*

That's typical of the Kickstarters as far as I know. Can't expect them to literally be on call around the clock.

I would expect another sizeable day tomorrow, though much smaller than day 1, and then we settle into 1-2 unlocks per day in the middle of the campaign.

Well it might make them more susceptible to "suggestions".

Huzzah!

Though it looks like he's been Photoshopped on (Izzy's signature is partially hidden), I didn't even recognize him at first, but it is his specific design.

He looks like he's wisely actively avoiding the Catoplepas' gaze. "Don't make eye contact. Just ignore it. It's more afraid of you than you are of it."

Are baby catoblepas called kittyblepas? They kill you by sheer adorableness . That's right, you squee to death! :zombie:

I haven't gotten to comment much this time around as Im stuck in Jury duty.  If I get chosen which it looks like I might be.  The case will last 3-5 weeks.  So not thrilled about that.  Which means I will likely miss most of the campaign :(

Looks like the first 24 hours are coming to a close and we hit the ground running.  While I really like many of the sculpts.  Im not really wowed by anything on the board yet.
Valfuryx- Is a definite must have.  My favorite model that has been shown so far, but I know there are more dragons to see later
The Dragonfolk- aka dragonborn all look great  I hope we get a tiefling set very similar to this.  I think I deserve it...
The townfolk - These turned out great.  I like that they are very plain looking in comparison to the last set of townfolk.  Sad thing is I could use them right now in my campaign...
Warmammoth - I admit Im on the fence with this one.  It looks awesome, but I sort of want one with no armor.  Also the fact that they have not determined its official size is worry some.
The Dire Cabbage - I know its not on there yet but since we hit 10K subscribers it will be up there soon.  I didnt think I would care but after seeing the preview I wouldnt mind it.
The Dungeon Dwellers - There is a lot of hit or miss in this one.  Im most displeased that there is a succubus in there and a nice one too. As much as I like all the hero minis There are a lot in there I dont like.  I dont like the Orcs, or the Kobolds, The owlbear looks kind of just... I dont like...All the hero minis look great thought.  The Dragon looks good but too small for my to worry about.  The goblins would be a maybe.  I think they would look ok in my ice goblin army but I dont know if I actually want to add to it.
The Hammerfist catapult- I dont know It I will bother with this one As I hate to say it but Wizkids just released theirs...sorry Ron.  It really depends on the size of this thing.
The bridge troll toll - I know this one seems to be popular, but Im not diggin it.  I think its great for the scenery people but for us gamers dwarven forge is more practical.
the fire giant - I honestly have no interest in giants with the exception of the cloud and storm giants.  However, I would love it if they could do comparison shots between wizkids giants (the D&D ones not the pathfinder ones) and see how they compare.  Im hopeing the storm giant is a hair taller than the wizakids versions.  So they could go together.
The Core set-  This looks like I will be cherry picking out of here.  There are a lot of good hero minis but the monsters Im not a fan of.  116, 125, and 128 a re the only monsters that appeal to me.  I do like the stag as well.
The elf rangers - While Ive nagged for "common" soldier of other races like elves and dwarves. I wasn't expecting a bunch of archers.  I sort of think this might have been a bad idea.  I dont know I could be wrong but I think it would have been better to have a more varied weapon selection.  Like the Aurians.  (townguard I cant remember what their called from Bones 3)  Dont misunderstand I still like them, but I think they could have been done better.
The Grave Kings - Im all about that undead life.  These though Im not really a fan of.  I dont know why really...
the female NPCs - I like these.  wouldnt mind if there was more "brothel" oriented minis in the future.  Or Oriental themed brothel minis.  Or Greek themed brothel minis.  Or succubus themed..(oh wait..)
The Golems -  I really like the re-sculpt of the stone golem.  The clay golem is meh.  The stained glass one might be interesting.  At the very least it would be a good practice piece for painting transparents.   It needs to be REALLY clear though not like foggy like the rest of your "clear" stuff.
The catfolk - I know this has been a pretty high request and it wasn't something that I wanted but, I might get them...maybe.  Just need a Cleric

The rest Im not really interested in at the moment or dont have a strong opinion on good or bad.  It would be cool if we hit 2 million today lol  I doubt it but you never know.

I do think it's a good idea to unveil something before the reaper folks leave for the day. For example, let's say tonight, at 7-8 pm they unveil that 3-4 goals from where we are now, is a huge astral dreadnought , and a cost. (I really need an astral dreadnought btw hint hint).

Maybe that will entice ppl to add more and if that image spreads to all the mini forums out there, there are ppl out there like me who would want something like that considering there's never been a mini for one yet (not including the recent self 3d printed ones).

Or you unveil an upcoming expansion and where it is on the map, etc.  Like dangling a food in front of toddlers :)

I was going through my Rules Cyclopedia, and realized that there aren't stats for a Catoplepas in it!! Gonna have to stat it up myself since I'm getting one. So of course my players are gonna have to face it!

At the very end of the live stream tonight, Ed said they are trying to work on setting up something with a fulfillment house in Germany to handle Europe.

It would be great if information like this was available outside their live stream.

Tapping the brakes a little...

Ed also said, ‘...there is no one that can tell us how shipping... [charges/ or taxes/ or customs] ...will work...’ nine months or a year from now.

Now that is a paraphrase. (They also said the whole 7 hour stream would go on YouTube....so it ought to be possible to verify my wobbly memory.)

(IMO) The two things to keep in mind are: Reaper will hunt for the option that minimizes everyone’s shipping costs (but there are limits); Reaper won’t go broke or wreck it’s profits absorbing shipping costs.

TLDR: A Germany-based fullfillment hub is not a certainty or a commitment at this point. It is just an option being given consideration.

Stats:

You don’t have an Original Monster Manual?  It’s in there. Filed under C.

You’d need to convert some of the stats (A/C)  to the new style numbering and such.
