Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread

Recommended Posts

@dschumm Here is a link to me posting the screenshot of the launch. Two posts below it is a screenshot of Reaper Live where they show Sir Forscale with the Dreadmere rowboat.

FYI - the rowboat itself, not counting the pole w/ the lantern, is 3" long.

For those looking at the size of the ship, I did a rough estimate of overall dimensions based on the renders and the provided scale, and compared those to the Falling Star by WizKids. It is going to be HUGE.

Is each red or blue square an inch?

I also did an overlay of a picture of someone holding a WizKid ship versus a Reaper estimate, but it is a WoTC copyrighted picture. Not sure if I can post it here.

Edit: based on feedback, will post it.

So the Wiz Kid ship is a 20-Gun Brigantine?

Chris Lewis has modeled up a 30-Gun Sloop of War.

holy crap. you have that setup in your house!??!?!

Yep.  When we moved 3 years ago, one of the wish list items was me being able to have a dedicated gaming space.  We found a great place with a pool table area that got repurposed into my gaming area. I did a whole thread on it here

So we need 15 new backers now to match Bones 4. Think we can do that during Bones Live?

So Reaper is declaring an Arms Race with Wizkids?

I would expect the Reaper ship to be the better sailer since it carries much more canvass.

They could be about evenly matched in firepower. It would depend on what each ship is armed with. Ten 24 pounders in the broadside against Nine 18 pounders and six 9 pounders would be roughly even.

Sadly, it is not the daily Twitch feed we have gotten during the KS period that has given us the "doubting Thomas" attitude. In the months previous on Reaper Live, Ron especially has made it quite clear that he enjoys baiting the audience by teases and sometimes rather sophomoric acts. So that is why many of us are guilty of little faith.

One person calls it baiting another calls it promoting...there isn’t a fine line between them. Kind of a blurry mess where you’d like to have a line.

Its difficult to win an arms race when you're two years behind.

The Soviets managed to keep up and pull ahead a few times. sputnik, Yuri Gagarin, Foxbat. There is an itneresting take on this in the historical science fiction series "Worldwar/Colonization" by Harry Turtledove.

Sanjay

One of the CAV guys has insanely epic and large 3D mountain maps to play on.

As for ships, if we're putting requests in I want a Bluenose, because, well.  Reasons.   That and the teased small ships.  I'm looking forward to getting a few of those...

A Sloop of War, a Cog, a Galley, and a Drakkar would complete my list. Dwarven Ironclads I "think" I could scratch build.

I barely received my last campaign pledge from Midlam that already it has something that caught my interest.

I'm happy to see they've launched a 2nd KS, as I missed out on the first one.
Here's the blurb from the Kickstarter, which is live and already funded here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/292543184/wallhalla-2/description

Hey, everyone! We're Ill Gotten Games, and we're back for another round of Wallhalla, the modular, 3d printable miniature display shelves!
We're kicking this new series off with a Dangerous Dungeon theme that comes in two available styles:

Classic: (left) the original format found in Series 1, optimized for miniature display. Classic shelf units also include versions with recesses for standard round bases (20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, and 70mm).
Wall Sprawl: a new, terrain-style take that lets you build vertical dungeons and play on your wall space! (It works great as a display as well, especially if you want even more of a diorama look.)
Both of these sets are 100% compatible with one another and with any of the sets from Series 1. This campaign is for digital STL files, not finished, physical products, and you'll need access to a 3d printer to make them. All of our Wallhalla designs:
print 100% support free and are optimized for FDM machines!
assemble with durable, built-in slide-fit connectors, and don't require glue!
can be configured (and reconfigured) into whatever build suits your fancy!
      are easy to paint!

A new Kickstarter that may otherwise go under your radar.

      Very entertaining 70’s/80’s nostalgia aesthetics.
