also a piece of siege equipment, possibly a battering ram.

Ron replied to me in comments section, that the fan favorites is a collection of figures that didn't fit elsewhere. Also, the extra B4 FF sold out very fast on their website as opposed to the Chronoscope expansion, which I believe is still available today.

I must respectfully disagree.

The pistol case is used, not just for paints but also for a variety of "sets" of related miniatures.  These sets retail for $35 and up, depending on the number of miniatures involved.

I would also direct your attention to the Holiday Paint Set offered at Christmas Time.  The only additions over and above paints equivalent to the holiday set are the brushes, bones minis, and the instruction pamphlet.

In the quantities that Reaper is using these cases they can be produced for an all in cost of $1.50 or less, which includes the sinking fund for recapturing the cost of the molds.

GEM

The case MIGHT add $10-$15 bucks to the cost - OR, to put it another way:

Taking one of those existing $35 LtPK to start with, adding upgrading the two minis to Bones Black (which cost about 20% more than regular Bones), and increasing the number from 2 to 10 minis, will surely push the retail price above $40.  Ten human-sized Bones Black  figures at the individual retail price of ~$3.50 and a couple brushes would meet the $40 price tag before the case and paints and guide (which does have development, production, and printing costs) were added!

Of course, Reaper could give the whole thing the Kickstarter discount (where Kickstarter prices for minis are up to 1/3 their retail price, for example), and there's no telling what that would work out to (obviously, such a discount is already in place to make those ten Bones Black figures plus paint, etc. available at new kit's $40 price tag!)  But, that's another story.

In the end, all other things but cost being equal, whether Reaper uses a cardboard box, Ghoulie Bag, or a pistol case, a retail LtPK of the sort in this Kickstarter is do-able as soon as the guide and packaging can be produced, if Reaper wanted to.  It might cost a little more than $40 at retail, but it's possible.

Reaper doesn't seem to be aiming at a "Learn to Paint Before the Kickstarter Fulfills" kit, though:  the more I look at it, the more I'm seeing instead something that looks like Reaper's aiming for an inexpensive entry-level Kickstarter option for new backers who are on the fence about the more expensive options.  And for that, Reaper is banking on those more timid or frugal backers being happy to wait until the Kickstarter fulfills to learn to paint, while the more impatient backers still have the existing ~$35 LtPK options to buy today.

Whether Reaper's gamble is on target or not (and they might have something there!), it comes down to Reaper having something a little different in mind from those of us thinking the kits would make more sense if they were available before the rest of this Kickstarter.

One point. At 0.86$ per mini in the core currently, we are actually just below 1/4 of retail, and depending on what is added, could approach 1/5.

Just checked my numbers. 1/5 of retail would require 171 minis in the core. not very likely, as I anticipate maybe 10-15 more minis in the core. Just a gut level WAG, but we shall see.

(thank you to @Guindyloo for letting me know about this earlier!)

Btw, can anyone give me a rough timestamp so I can behold its loveliness in motion?

Huzzah!

If you replay Anne's Toolbox show she showed it as well (and it was still liquid). Look for it at the 8:30 mark. Reaper Toolbox #018.

And if there's any reason that Chronoscope has been been under-represented so far in this Kickstarter, it would be because of any lack of backer and customer enthusiasm for the B4 Chronoscope expansion that we might infer from the longer period of availability for that expansion on Reaper's online shop.  Which is a shame:  I think any unpopularity for that set would be due not to a lack of popularity for Chronoscope, but rather because fans just didn't take to that particular set as well as they did the really outstanding fantasy sets in Bones IV.  I don't think the set was bad, it just suffered from some some problems with curation that might have been avoided if the set had even a slightly stronger and more broadly-appealing theme to it than the random but squarely sci-fi theme Reaper went with.  I can see why they did that, but with 20/20 hindsight....

Anyway, with less than 69 hours left to go,  allow me to provide this Public Service Announcement:

This Bones Kickstarter is getting exciting now, and we can expect the excitement to skyrocket over the next three days, if past Kickstarters are any indication of what to expect.  It's all fun and games now, but remember, and brace yourselves:  when that clock runs out, and the Kickstarter ends, most of us are going to be hit with that post-Kickstarter emptiness, followed by withdrawal symptoms!  The Kickstarter comments will be a relative wasteland.  You'll feel like something big is missing, and what's missing will be stretch-goal revelations:  there will be nothing left to reveal, nothing left to unlock.  You'll be wanting to hit that F5 key to see what's happening next, and there'll be nothing to refresh.  Post-Kickstarter production updates will come from Reaper every couple weeks like clockwork, but it will feel like years between those updates.  Seeing updated renders for those sketched items will seem to take decades, and will be a pale imitation of the excitement of getting a new reveal or teaser.  Your bank account, beaten and cowed and tormented during the Kickstarter, will be left dazed and shell-shocked, wandering through the fallout, unconvinced that the horrors you have inflicted on it are all over.  Approximately 48 hours after the Kickstarter ends, you'll be wondering:  "Why hasn't Bones 6 started yet???  I NEED something new on the screen to throw money at!"  This is your future!  I have been there and seen it for myself, thanks to the last four Bones Kickstarters.

It's not too late to seek help for Bones Kickstarter Withdrawal Syndrome.  You're not alone!  There is still hope!

That is an epic looking Sea Giant!

I wish I could just get what I wanted from the Kickstarter, I get why it's set up like it is, but it is stopping me from throwing a lot of money at it.

Well...

On Bones IV, I did  the same: "Only what I really want/need".

Then my friend, who also participated, received his pledges. Two expansions, several add-ons, core set. A lot more stuff than I picked.

After a while, the stuff I didn't get started selling on retail: at two, three, four times the price I could have paid if I got it on the KS. He just kept all what he wanted from his pledges, gave me some stuff, and sold what he wanted. Take for example that giant on Depths: how much is it gonna cost once in retail? 20, 30$? That's about half the entire expansion. And, you know... once you have it in your hands, it frecuently looks even better and it's too late (that was particularly annoying with Dark Reach Expansion, I'll never regret enough not having pledged for it)

So, my personal position this time is pick everything I can afford and I'm even slightly interested on. If once arrives I really don't want it, I can sell it, gave it, share it with my D&D group.

That was originally my plan, but it just seems like such a waste to buy 200 minis just to keep 50 of them, even though it'll cost the same (if not more) to pick them up at retail.

I've got a while to think about it at least.

I find that gleefully cackling over my current hoard, while anticipating future additions helps. Also there is the small, but steady trickle of Bones 4 models released to retail to be a methadone equivalent to ease withdrawal.

* I can't tell one of the dragons apart from another without studying which is which, so I'll take StarFyre's word on these (I have no reason to doubt StarFyre on this)

Damn right. Geek cred :p the one we call red is standing tall and as, Iirc, @Sirithiliel pointed out, looks as if it's screaming at seeing a mouse. It also has the typical rear curved horns that 3e/4e/5e d&d red dragons have.

The white is the leftover. On all 4s, lower to ground but it's head doesn't match the design of 3e etc whites. Closer to Pathfinder I guess.
